Passions From My Heart
Book Review By Tempie Expressions from My Heart By Helen Marie Daly Reviewed by Tempie The big beautiful red heart on Helen’s book cover touched me when I first saw it just as it does again now. I find my curiosity trying to figure out what can the message behind such a big beautiful heart be before I read page one. Two things immediately come to my mind and both of them represent opposite ends of the spectrum. Having worked in the healthcare system over twenty five years or thinking on personal tragedies I can readily see heartbeats; some still being monitored and some now stopped. I can see patients having blood drawn or having transfusions given. All of which represents in some fashion or other a sense of hurt or pain which requires some form of treatment to ease the pain. Then I immediately think of the other end which is the complete opposite. It represents nothing but joy and happiness. I find myself smiling so thinking on many occasions that are universal in this manner such as valentine’s or sweetest day when you or your true love showers you with an _expression of love from the heart. And thus is Helen’s title, “Expressions from My Heart”. As I sit back and read each of Helen’s poems, one by one, I realize my analogy is right on target and the title is very appropriate. Her poems took me on a personal journey as well deep into my soul. In reading them I could feel her warmth as she lovingly embraced her pains, sorrows and joys. Each poem represented the essence and life of Helen. Some even touched me such as, “Daddy’s Little Girl”, “Feelings”, “Me”, “Memories of My Mother” and I think my favorite is, “My Friend Boo.” This one touched me so and I felt no more pain or sorrow and it even made me smile. It reminded me of a very joyous character in the children’s movie, “Monsters Inc.” named "Boo." She is very similar in nature to the "Boo" in Helen's poem. She is someone who knows no pain. In her very essence any and everybody whom she comes into contact with feels her joy. She is joy. I sincerely enjoyed reading each of Helen’s poems. I recommend others to read her work and see if there are, “Expressions from Your Heart.” I’d like to share and end this review with Helen’s poem, “My Friend Boo.” My Friend Boo I have a little friend named Boo She is very precious to me I know that you would love her too As she laughs for all to see I met her first when she was two And now three years have gone by I have learned a lot about my Boo She never seems to cry She dances around and sings a lot We have fun reading at night The smiles never seem to stop Her face is a beautiful sight From Her Heart to Yours
