JULY 13 2009 UPDATE:

We are pleased to announce that Skittles had her babies...FOUR of them.  They are 2 weeks old as of today.  I will post pictures of them in about 2 weeks.  I announce the time and date of posting (this is when you can reserve your baby) about 1-.5 weeks ahead of the actual posting date.  It is important to keep checking back for updates on here, to be able to know the details.

We are also pleased to announce that Flower had babies.  They are only a few days old, so we will not know how many were born and survive, for another few weeks.  Please check back then.

Piglet is due in a week or so.  Check back for updates at that time.

All babies will go to new homes between 6-8 weeks of age.  We determine this based on weening, eating of solid foods, and overall size/health.  They are posted online with photos at 4 weeks of age and chosen.

FYI:  We are no longer taking downpayments to hold babies.  Instead we will announce the births, then post pictures around 4 weeks of age, then begin to take downpayments and have people select which baby they prefer.  It will be a first come first serve basis; most people obtain babies that end up contacting me close to that time period.

MISSION STATEMENT:
Hedgie Delight is a small scale family operated USDA breeder dedicated to providing first quality African Pygmy Hedgehog Pets.  We PRIDE ourselves in our "PET FIRST" attitude, that overrides the concept of breeding for color or quantity!  Our Parent Hedgehogs are pure bred and most were sought from outside of the Minnesota Area. They come from top producing hedgehog breeders & are bred to produce healthy & temperamentally sound hedgie babies.  All hedgies are born and raised in our home and socialized from birth on.  By the time you encounter them, they have become accustomed to the HUMAN BOND that we all hope for in our pets.

OUR HERD:

Typical Colors of Babies include:  Salt and Pepper, Grey, Dark Grey, Cinnacott, Apricot, Chocolate Chip, Brown-White and Albinos

I only breed compatible hedgies, to obtain the most optimal temperaments and dispositions in the young.

OUR HERD'S LITTERS OF BABIES:
The babies are HAND HELD as soon as possible after time of birth, on a daily basis, until they transition into your households.   They obtain a lot of human contact from both us and friends/family.  In addition, they become used to PLENTY OF ACTIVITY, due to being introduced to exercise time from early on in their youth - in our play pen, use of wheels, and the ability to roam around the house :).

I have litters available at most times of the year, breeding each mother up to 3 times a year.  This allows for optimal rest and recuperation between litters.

Typical litter size runs between 1-6 babies, on average 3-4 hedgies each litter.

Each baby is transitioned into solid foods, soft food, meal worms for treats, and learns to drink from a water bottle.
