Q.)What is Heat of Battle?
A.)Heat
of Battle is a Team Oriented
Modification for (Regular) Call of Duty. Not Call of Duty: UO. Although
I believe it's possible to play HoB with UO installed. For more info
visit www.heatofbattle.net and search their forums.
Q.)Are there certain system requirements I need to play Heat of Battle (HoB)?
A.)No all you need is the standard Call of Duty System Requiremnts.
Q.)How do I install Heat Of Battle?
A.)First Off you need to install your Retail Call Of Duty. Then you
need to install Call Of Duty Patch 1.4 . After installing Patch 1.4 you
can either Auto-Update through the game to 1.5 or update though
download.
After getting Patch 1.5 intact you need to install Heat Of Battle 1.0
(which is a full install). I believe the Map pack comes with 1.0 so you
won't need that file but don't quote me on that.
All Files Can Be Found On The "Look at Links" Page.
Q.)What Does It Mean When Heat Of Battle Tells Me I Have "Insufficent OS Privleges"?
A.)This error means that you do not have Administrator Privliges on you
account for your computer. In order to play HoB you need to either be
an Administrator or have Administrater Privliges.
Q.)What Does It Mean When Call Of Duty: Heat Of Battle Kicks me for Hunkmeg Problems?
A.)First Off this means that your hunkmegs are low and are not set at
the right setting for your computer what you need to do is go into your
CoD_MP config file (CoD_MP.cfg) find where it says Com_Hunkmegs and set it to half
of your memory which means if you have 512 MB of Memory you need to set
it to 256 MB.
Q.) I Have Call Of Duty: Game Of The Year Edition, How Do I Install Heat Of Battle?
A.)
1.Make sure you have one Call of Duty folder. Heat of Battle must be in the Call of Duty folder,
which you should rename if not already 'Call of Duty' without the quotes.
2. In the shortcut on your desktop (or on the icon in the Start Menu OR
even in the folder Heat of Battle is installed in), right click on the
icon, go
to'Properties', and in the target field should be where you installed
Call of Duty. For instance, I installed Call of Duty into C:\Program
Files\Call of
Duty. Make sure that target corresponds with the folder that HoB is in!
I.E if HoB is in C:\Program Files\Call of Duty make sure that the
target is C:\Program Files\Call of Duty .
3.On the HoB icon on your desktop the Start-In field should be (or
along the lines of) C:\Program Files\Call of Duty\hobv4. Make sure you
write down the place you installed HoB during installation for future
reference to this icon, because that is what should be in the Start-In
field.(Or somthing along those lines)
4. Press Apply, and you should be able to lunch HoB in a number of
ways: From the shortcut on your desktop, from the CoD 'Mods' button
while on the Call of Duty:Multiplayer main screen, or by going into the Start menu, going
to the bar that HoB v.40 is in, and clicking on the HoB icon.
Q.)PunkBuster is Kicking me from a server and I don't know why. What does this means?
A.) Most likely Punkbuster isn't up to date in you computer so you need
to start you own server and let it run for a map or just about 3/4 a
map by that time Punkbuster should've updated itself. Or you can get an
application called PBWEB (Look at Links Page for Link) and it must be
installed in you PB folder (in your Call of Duty folder), you can run that program and it will
automatcly update your Punkbuster. (A Temporary
Solution to this problem is to go into the console and type /pb_security 0. (No period at the end obviously)
Q.) I Keep Getting Kicked HoB Tries To Download (Insert file-name here)!
A.)What you need to do is turn Auto Downloading "off". By default it is
turned on so you need to go to Multiplayer Options and turn it off in
both regular Call of Duty and Heat Of Battle.
Q.)Do I need anything else to play Heat of Battle Successfully?
A.) No you don't if you want you can get Teamspeak RC2 or Ventrillo. Also
I would recommend All Seeing-Eye or Gamespy-Arcade. (You can see
explanations of both on the "Strat Guide" page. Also you can find the
links on the "Look at Links" Page.
Q.)Where is Heat of Battle going?
A.)Heat of Battle is moving to the Source engine which most of you know
is Half-Life 2's engine. With that in mind saying HoB is moving to
Source also means HoB is moving to HL2. This move is being implented by
the Dev Team and the whole Dev Team is working overtime to get HoB:S
off its axels.
Q.)How long will the conversion to Source take?!?
A.)The conversion to Source is in its Infancy
stages, and is still very far from being finished. It has to go through
the Internal Dev Team testing, then over to the Beta Testers, then when
the Beta Testers give to okay a public release is available.
Q.) What do I need to play HoB: S?
A.) You need Half Life 2. HoB:S is a total
conversion modification for the Source engine which HL2 runs on, but
you do need the original HL2 to run it. It cannot be run if you only
have Counter-Strike: Source, or Day Of Defeat: Source. YOU MUST HAVE Half Life 2!
Q.)Who is the Dev Team?!?
A.) The Dev Team is a talented group of individuals who worked long
days and hard nights to get us to where we are today and they are still
working for no charge might I add! All out of the goodness of thier
hearts. With HoB moving to Source they are workin' Overtime! Well back
on subject the Dev Team consists of 2Starr, Giovanni, Eat Lead, Dogsbody, Lunt, Mike (The Mapper), Upholder, Diggler, Dillinger, Stabsgefreiter Dr. Gonzo, Capone and now Davisio!
Thats all the names as we know them. Hop over to their site and thank
them for this great mod! (It's on the "Look at Links" page.)
