Having decided to go with another source picture (and angle) for Robert's portrait, I am delighted at the progress I made today. Also, I've discovered that a greater degree of accuracy results when I paint from the photograph directly, rather than a step removed (i.e. sketches). There is still some work to be done, not the least of which includes doing something with the horrid background - a remnant of the "under-painting" which has yet to be shrouded. If you're reading this, and you know Robert, let me know what you think. Or, if you're reading this, and you don't know Robert, compare it to the photograph I've also posted here.
I've started, sort of, a portrait of/for my friend Robert. (See "Study 1" below.) The biggest hurdle to date has been transferring what I think is a very accurate drawing to the canvas, but I'm staying optimistic. heh heh
The "Harpist" is finished, I believe. It has been an interesting process, a lot of changes. The only "constant" was the harp actually; and even it did not escape entirely untouched. The final product reflects, I think, a great deal of discipline and restraint, especially in light of some of its evolutionary stages (see below).
