About Us |
|
Our shelter has only been open for about a year and a half now. We have cats and dogs of all ages. Please come out and visit if you are looking for a pet. Our staff and volunteers can take you on a tour through the cat room and the dog kennel.
Look for the "Preiser Animal Hospital" sign at 2975 North Milwaukee Avenue (the east side). We're at the far left as you drive into the parking lot.
Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 11:30am to 5:30pm, Thursday, 1pm to 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 3:30pm. The shelter is closed on Mondays.
Volunteers: Volunteers are always appreciated! Volunteers can assist with dog walking, fundraising, cat socializing, and pet adoptions. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by a parent, and complete an application.
Note: If your High School has a requirement of performing a community service in order to graduate, maybe you could arrange to do some volunteering at our shelter. A possible community service project could be picking one dog, and attending the obedience training classes with that dog, and taking a special interest in coming into the shelter on a regular basis to help socialize and care for that one animal. You have no idea how rewarding it can be to help a scared, lonely animal to become a strong, confident, well-behaved, happy one. |
Adoption Fees
If you would like to adopt one of our wonderful animals, you'll need to fill out a "Pets & People Profile" so we can get to know more about the prospective home environment. Also an application form.
Adoption fees are $85.00 for cats and kittens, and $145.00 for dogs and puppies. All of our dogs are microchipped and registered to the shelter. When you adopt a dog from us, you can have the registration transferred to your name and address. There is a $25.00 fee to the registry for this service.
We occasionally reduce the rates for certain animals who have been in our shelter for a very long time. They are not in any danger of being euthanized, we just want to get them all into their forever homes as quickly as possible. Those animals are marked "URGENT" on the website.
Come Visit Us!
We are located on Milwaukee Avenue just less than a mile south of Pal-Waukee Airport. Just a bit north of the Allstate complex on the east side of the road. The street address is in Northbrook, but we are physically within Prospect Heights.

Our Featured Pet...
No doubt about it, Frank has been around the block a few times by the look on his face. When Frank arrived at the shelter a few months ago, he was happiest in his cage away from the other cats and human contact. But with much love from our shelter team, Frank is now able to live in our cat colony among the other felines, and he will actually seek out human contact. Frank is becoming our little success story. But we really would love for Frank to have a family of his own.
We are trying desperately to find a permanent home for Frank. He just wants to be with a family ... soon. Won't you find it in your heart to take in this sweet guy. He really is a charmer.
The Chicagoland Family Pet Show at Arlington Park Racecourse
MARCH 19-21, 2004 : We had a wonderful weekend at the Pet Expo. Including the adoptions at the shelter and the dogs we brought to the show, we had seventeen animals find their forever homes. We had many prizes for our raffle including the $600 Dog House that was donated to us by Teresa Grey's brother. Thank You for a great weekend.
