Viruses
These come in many shapes and sizes, from the annoying to the downright malicious. Virus attacks can stop your computer from functioning properly, steal your credit card details or turn your computer into a zombie pc for spam relay. Proteus specialise in virus removal using a number of tools. We always strongly recommend that any computer connected to the internet has anti-virus protection that is regularly updated and that scans are regularly run on your hard drive.
Adware/Spyware
Every site on the internet installs cookies into your temporary internet folder. In an ideal world this would enable the surfer to click through web pages faster leading to faster load times and a more enjoyable experience. However, more financially motivated individuals on the internet have developed cookies that monitor what is looked at, when and by whom. This information is sent to a server that in turn sends targeted advertisements in the form of pop-ups to your desktop. At Proteus we use several pieces of software in conjuction with each other to remove the offending software from your computer.
Malware
There are two main types of pop up advertising sent to your computer when adware has been installed. The first is benign adverts just showing an advertisement. The second is more sinister. The pop up will ask you to do something, eg to be forwarded onto the site from whence the advert came, to close it down and remove the advert or to make the website in question your home page. If this advert is clicked by the user, you are essentially agreeing to a software download. Once installed this can take many forms such as a browser hijacker, premium rate dialler, porn site redirecter, spam host etc. In many cases this software is notoriously diifcult to remove and can cause your computer to grind to a halt and render it unusable. Proteus will use powerful software to remove Malware from your computer and has extensive experience of manually editing the registry of your pc to remove any clone software or fragments that may be left.
