September 11, 1295. Proof that, contrary to popular belief, miracles do happen.
Students returned to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, alive, well,
and (for the most part), still sane after the events of the previous term. The 1294 - 1295
school year was fraught with disaster - all due (or mostly due) to the first ever Triwizard Tournament,
which was hosted by Hogwarts School. Things actually started off rather well, with the exception of Chauncey
Nicholson being chosen as the Durmstrang Champion (emergency measures had to be taken in order to make room
for his already swollen ego, which only continued to expand after the choice by the Goblet of Fire), and the
First Task was undeniably a success. The students enjoyed the Yule Ball,
and overall people were beginning to think that the tournament was a brilliant idea.
Of course, it couldn't ever be that simple.
During the Second Task, Chauncey Nicholson managed to get himself killed, and the results were disastrous.
Ariadne Cadwell, the Head of the Wizard's Council, was placed under the imperious curse by a Durmstrang student.
Directly following this, she got herself completely wasted confronted the Headmaster, Dominic Reynolds.
She told him to step down from his position, despite the fact that she had appointed him there in the first
place; it seemed that she thought Chauncey's death to be Dom's fault. Understandably, this made Dom angry,
and he refused to resign. Ariadne she managed to rally the Council behind her and convince them that
it was their duty to arrest Dominic and try him for his "crimes" - simultaneously, Dominic managed to convince the
staff of Hogwarts that Ariadne was unfit for her duties. Rumors about Dom began to circulate
the wizarding communities: he was a little crazy, he beat students with chains in his office for fun,
et cetera. Matters escalated, and soon a large number of Aurors were camped outside of the school, trying to
figure a way in - Dom, with the help of the Durmstrang Headmaster, had managed to put so much security on the
school that it was nearly impossible for anyone who wasn't welcome to get close to the building. Nearly was the
keyword, though, and the Aurors managed to work their way inside the building, , only to find that Dominic Reynolds
had already been assassinated - but by whom?
So now students return, probably despite their parents's best wishes, to the start of a
new year. What will take place this term? Miracles do happen, so it is possible that the year will
be uneventful. But given the time period and the fact that the wizarding world is in turmoil, that is very
unlikely. Therefore, rather than "Will something happen?" one should be asking, "What will happen?" or
"How will it effect Hogwarts?" And in the end, only you can determine the answers.
Welcome to Hogwarts in the 1200's: Chapter Thirteen. Come and Create History.
