Hunny Bunny Rabbit Sanctuary

Helping unwanted rabbits find new homes

Do's & Don'ts

Don't pick your rabbit up by ears!  If you are unsure on how to handle a rabbit, please ask either a vet, or the breeder to show you.  A rabbit will need to feel secure when being picked up, and if it doesn't then will kick it's hind legs and scrabble, and unless you can keep a firm grip he/she will fall.

Do give your rabbit daily attention, these creatures thrive on human interaction.  Once bonded some rabbits will "talk to you" with soft, short grunting like sounds, in the same way a cat will "purr"

Don't leave your rabbit exposed to either the blazing hot sun, or the rain and wind in the winter.  Keep your rabbit weather proofed in the winter and cool and shaded in the summer.

Do give your lovable friend regular health checks.  Look for fur mite, you may notice this when he/she starts to get bald patches!  If you do notice this, don't worry it can easily be eradicated by either a powder/spray or spot on treatment found at your local pet shop.  Mites are found in hay, so are quite common.  Check for "sticky bums", this can also be common if your rabbit has been fed a little too much of the "green stuff"!  Please make sure your rabbit is clean because "fly strike" is a very nasty condition where the fly will lay eggs on the dirty area.
