“Where on earth is Laura?” 39 year old Fenton Hardy thought to himself. His wife of 17 years had gone out to the library to pick up a book 12 hours ago and she still wasn’t home. Fenton was beginning to get very worried about his wife, so he decided to call his friend and also the chief of the Bayport police department: Ezra Colling.

“Hey dad what’s up?” asked Fenton’s 17 year old son Frank Hardy as he walked in the door. “Well, son your mother went to pick a book up this morning and still hasn’t returned. How was your date with Nancy?”

“Oh no… do you want me to go if mom is still at the library? And... Uh… Nancy, Nancy Drew my girlfriend? Well I kind of broke up with her because I saw her kissing another guy who I didn’t know. She said that his name was Ned Nickerson.”

“Oh, yes that would be great if you went and checked out the library!! And I am very sorry about Nancy.”

“Thanks dad I should be back in an hour or so. Oh… um… do you know where Joe is?”

Fenton laughed as he thought of his 16 year old dear-devil son. “Yes he went on a double-date with Iola and her brother and her brother’s new girlfriend. Boy, I really do think Iola and Joe make the perfect couple”

Frank smirked, “Really? I honestly can’t stand Iola. I think Joe should ask the new transfer student: Vanessa Bender out. Well… I better go and get myself to the library. Bye!”

“Bye!” said Fenton.

“Err!!” Joe Hardy growled as he slammed the door of his house behind him. “ Dad where is Frank off to? I saw him leave on his motor cycle. And where is mom? And why do you look so bad? I am the one who should look bad! I just broke up with Iola. You want to know why I broke up with Iola Horrid Morton!?! Well… I’ll tell you why! Because she was flirting very heavily with that new guy in town. And he is such a JERK!! Well anyway why do you look so horrible?”

“Slow down son!” Fenton said. “Frank went to look for your mother because she has been out at the library for 12 hours, and that is why I look so terrible. Thank you very much. And I am quite sorry about Iola; Frank also broke up with Nancy because she was kissing a guy named Ned Nickerson.”

“Oh. That’s not good. Can I make some coffee dad? I have a splitting headache. I think I am catching something.”

“Sure.”
