The old and the new. Most of the tips that you will find here are things that I have tried and have worked for me. I will not post (what I consider to be) dangerous tips. I DO NOT CONDONE PURGING OR LAXITIVE ABUSE! I will not tell you how to make yourself vomit.
The reason that I do not condone purging or laxative abuse is because I have been there myself. I know that nothing I can say or do will dissuade you if you are dead set on using these dangerous methods. The best I can do is NOT tell you how to do these things.
Other than the fact that they are VERY dangerous, restriction, fasting, and exercise are the quickest ways to lose weight and work FAR better than using laxatives or purging.
Water is the most important tool that you have in your arsenal.
Water has 0 calories! Celebrate and have a glass! Cheers!
Staying hydrated is SO important! Often what we think is hunger is just our bodies telling us that we are not drinking enough water!
Drink a glass of water before you eat anything. You might not even want to eat after you drink all that water.
Take sips of water between bites to fill you up faster.
Drinking water throughout the day will help you to not feel so hungry.
If you are feeling bloated (water retention) water is, ironically, the best thing for you! Up your water and cut back your salt intake to get rid of pesky water weight.
Staying hydrated will not only keep you healthier, but keep you looking better too! Hydrated skin is healthy, glowing skin.
Munch on some ice chips if you want the sensation that you are eating something, without the calories.
Eat food from a dark blue or black plate. Everything looks like more than it actually is on a dark colored plate so you eat less. Trick your brain, and trick your stomach!
Eat food from a small plate or bowl. Same concept as above.
Never eat anything bigger than your fist. This will keep your stomach from stretching and you will get hungry less often, and full from less food.
Focus intensely on the first few bites of anything you eat. After this some of the "excitement" of eating should wear off and you may not feel like eating as much.
Sit somewhere quite and alone when you eat. Choose a place away from the TV, computer, music, EVERYTHING! If you have to stop what you are doing just to eat, you might not even bother.
Never have seconds. This is a no-brainer. If you are truly still hungry, fill up on water or ice.
Never have desert unless someone is going to get overly suspicious if you don't.
Studies show that people who eat breakfast eat less throughout the day and also have a higher metabolism. If you skip meals, make sure that you don't skip this one!
Eat s l o w l y. It takes about 30 minutes for your stomach to send signals to your brain telling you that you are full. Chew each bite until it dissolves in you mouth and pause between bites.
Distract yourself long enough to forget about eating.
Pinch your thigh- or your stomach rolls or arm fat. Doesn't that feel disgusting? Anything you eat is just going to add to that.
Or feel your bones... you don't want to lose them do you? You don't want the progress you've made to get buried in disgusting flab do you?
Google for pictures of obese people.
Or look at pictures of Thinspiration.
Clean out the trash bin. Gross odors and questionable stains should make you lose your appetite.
Or clean the bathroom. All those chemical smells, and smells of waste and other disgusting things... *shudders*
Close your eyes and relax. Take deep breaths and count to 100, s l o w l y. By the time you've finished your craving will have probably passed. Repeat as necessary.
Paint your nails. The smell of polish and remover is usually enough to put most people off of food for a bit and unless you intend to eat like a dog, doing anything with your hands is out for about 20 minutes.
Strip to your birthday suit and take a good long look in a full-length mirror. This should make you not want to eat if nothing else.
Weigh yourself. Still got a lot of work left to do, don't you?
Chug a couple of glasses of water very quickly. This will make you somewhat nauseous and you will be too full to eat!
Get comfy in bed at night! You wont want to get up and do any midnight snacking if you are super comfy!
If all else fails, spin around in circles until you are too dizzy and nauseous to eat.
Fidget. Shake your foot, tap your pencil, NEVER stop moving! Even when you're sitting, find ways to move about. Every little calorie counts.
Park as far away from the place you are going as possible so that you have to walk more.
Or, you could just walk there instead of driving and burn even MORE calories, and also help the environment.
Take the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator.
If you find your self with a few minutes during the day that you have nothing to do, jump rope. It burns TONS of calories and even just a few minutes can do wonders. If you do it for 10 minutes, 3X a day, and weigh 110 pounds, you can burn 249 calories! That's enough to lose an extra 1/2 pound a week!
Clean something! Cleaning burns lots of calories and you're actually doing something productive!
EXERCISE!!! When you exercise your metabolism is higher throughout the day and even though muscle weighs more than fat, it incinerates calories! The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn all the time.
While you are watching TV and no one is around, jog in place or do jumping jacks.
Put the remote really far away (even in another room on the other side of the house or upstairs) so that you have to go get it when ever you want to change the channel or adjust the volume.
If you are sitting for a long period of time, every hour get up and do cardio for 5-10 minutes to get your heart rate up. Jump rope is great for this, as are jumping jacks and jogging in place.
Take a multi-vitamin and a calcium supplement every day. This is just good health sense, but also if you are lacking in vitamins you may feel hungrier than you normally would. Take them after you eat something so you don't get nauseous.
Don't eat anything at least 3 hours before you go to bed. Your body wont have enough time to digest the food if you do and your metabolism slows at night anyway.
Don't eat anything between 8am and 8pm. Or if you need more time at night 9am and 9pm. The general idea is to have at least 12 hours a day that you are not eating anything. This allows your stomach to empty completely (or nearly so) and cuts back on the amount of calories you consume in a day.
Plan out everything you are going to eat the night before and write in what times you are going to eat. That way, you'll know where all of your calories are coming from ahead of time and it'll help you stay under your calorie limit.
Go shopping and try on clothes that are at your goal size... This will give you a realistic idea of what you are working towards and motivate you to get there.
Remember that if your skinny friend eats a lot it does not mean you can do the same.
Get enough sleep. Your metabolism is higher and your hunger is lower if you are getting enough sleep every night, plus you cant eat if you are asleep. Take some over-the-counter sleeping pills/ sleep aids or benadryl if you are having trouble falling asleep. I have the BEST sleep when I'm hungry, and I would recommend trying to go to sleep with an empty stomach. Again, the sleeping pills can help with that.
Chew sugar-free gum to satisfy your oral fixation. It has WAY less calories than any food you could eat.
Fast just one day a week. That's only 24 hours out of the 168 hours that are in a week that you don't eat anything. Just by doing this, the average person can lose an extra 1/2 pound a week.
ALWAYS read nutrition labels!!! This can help you avoid eating too large of a serving and also you get an idea of how many calories you are consuming.
