Who We Are

A student-run organization at Harvard College consisting of undergraduates, Harvard University graduate students, Harvard staff, Cambridge/Allston community members, and whoever else wants to be involved!

What We Stand For

The Harvard College Vegetarian Society is concerned with the political, social, environmental, moral, and health issues related to vegetarianism, veganism, and other plant-based diets. Our purpose is to foster community among vegetarians and those interested in vegetarianism through educational and outreach activities.

Cage-Free Egg Campaign: Spring 2007

In December 2006, we began mobilizing student support to get Harvard University Dining Services to adopt a partial-to-full cage-free egg policy for the eggs served in the dining halls.  This involved collecting over 900 signatures in support of switching to an egg provider, Pete and Gerry's, that exhibits more humane and environmentally friendly practices. Over 100 other colleges and universities have made the same switch from battery-cage to cage-free eggs, and Harvard has become one of them.  The Boston Herald and the Humane Society of the United States had articles on the switch.
