Concerned by the rising crime rate and anti social behaviour
by 17 to 30 year olds in our area, we formed our Residents
Association in November 2003.
Our first action as a Residents Association was to petition for
alley gates,we were successful, and they were installed 2
months later.
Next we applied for N.R.F funding, via the Consultative Group,
for the provision of lighting to one of our rear alleyways. We
were awarded £12,000 and lights were installed to the rear of
Stephen Street and Hart Lane in December 2004. This year we
have again obtained N.R.F funding for lighting to the rear of
Stephen and Suggitt Streets.
Anti Social behaviour has been tackled and with the help of the
A.S.B Team, The Police (including a very good `beat bobby`)
we have achieved solutions to a number of our problems.
Belonging to a Residents Association gives us access to Senior
Council Officers via Neighbourhood Forums and Consultative
Groups, it also gives us the opportunity to bid for funding from
the likes of N.R.F and Safer Hartlepool Partnership.
As a Residents Association we are tackling today's problems
today but also anticipating tomorrow's problems. We are seeing
a return to the old days where people feel part of a community,
where people care for and help each other and greet each other
in the street as friends.
Our Residents Association works to create a safe community
where the elderly can feel unthreatened both in their homes or
walking the streets and children can play safely.
