Lawyers for Harry Potter author JK Rowling are hard at work
by planning cases in Chinese local courts and talking to the national authorities about having bogus Potter novels taken off the streets in China.
The bogus book Harry Potter And The Chinese Empire, the work of Chinese conmen, appeared on the streets shortly after the publication of the official JK Rowling book in July. The fake book has extracts from other fantasy works such as Lord Of The Rings, martial arts epics and random characters from Chinese literature with the Hogwarts characters.
Uber Harry Potter fan Stephen King gives his thoughts
on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this weeks issue of Entertainment Weekly.
King also discusses whether the books were aimed for children or adults, is reading books a dead activity and goes in to great detail on the early reviews of the books. You can view the rest of the article here.
The fifth movie in the Potter series has now grossed an impressive $708 million worldwide. Its US takings of $254 million have also just surpassed those of Prisoner of Azkaban's ($250 million). OOTP is currently just $8 million from COS's domestic gross.

Hey everyone! I am so sorry for the lack of updates on HP news and stuff. With school starting in about 20 days, everything is starting to get hectic, so my freetime is really limited. But, I will try to update more often. Sorry about it, guys!

The movie synopsis:
The true story looks at how Rudyard Kipling used his influence to get his 17-year-old son Jack (played by Radcliffe) a commission with the Irish Guards, despite his son's poor eyesight.
Jack went missing in action during the Battle of Loos and his mother and father carried out an ardent search for him, spanning many years and many miles of soul-destroying discovery.
Since it's now July 31st in the UK, we at HPANA would like to wish author JK Rowling and her creation Harry Potter a wonderful happy birthday.
LetÂ’s all raise our butterbeer glasses and give thanks to the woman who has brought us such enjoyment over the years. Happy birthday Jo and to you Harry.
With the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows being just a few days ago, JKR has done an interview where she talks about ending the book and what she plans on doing next. You can view the rest of the article here.
The fifth movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix fell
a notch to the number 2 spot in weekend sales. The drop was anticipated because of the release of the seventh book with Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.' head of distribution commenting:
They wanted to get that book Saturday, lock themselves in the house and read it, because they didn't want their other friends by Monday telling them who made it and who didn't.
Order of the Phoenix took in an estimated $32.2 million over the weekend for a $207.5 million total in 12 days in the U.S and over $558.8 million worldwide, which is slightly ahead of the last picture, Goblet of Fire, after 12 days.
As excepted the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows broke records this weekend with Scholastic reporting
that 8.3 million copies were sold in the first 24 hours in the U.S., while UK publisher Bloomsbury reports
that they sold 3 million copies in 48 hours.
In a statement on Sunday Scholastic president Lisa Holton said:
The excitement, anticipation, and just plain hysteria that came over the entire country this weekend was a bit like the Beatles' first visit to the US.
This weekend kids and adults alike are sitting on buses, in the park, on airplanes and in restaurants reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The conversations the readers have been waiting to have for 10 years have just begun.
Jim Dale, the U.S. narrator of the Harry Potter series, is one of the few people in the world who knows how
the Harry Potter series ends.
Dale finished recording for the audio for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book over two months ago, a process that took two-and-a-half weeks and is sworn to secrecy as to how it ends.
He has recorded every single word of the series, amounting to 117 hours and 4 minutes, won a Grammy and holds the record for creating the most voices in an audiobook in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Mr. Dale will be at the Union Square Barnes & Noble in New York this Friday, July 21 where he will discuss
how he got the role of narrator, how he creates his charactersÂ’ voices and read excerpts from the previous books. After the release of the last book in the series he will do a tour of Houston, Washington, Charlotte, N.C. and Philadelphia.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released in hardback, braille, deluxe version and audio Cassette/CD on Friday, July 21st.
Scholastic, the U.S. publisher of the Harry Potter series has obtained
a subpoena in the hopes of learning the identify of the culprit who posted scans of pages from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book on the web.
We at HPANA have been sent similar items via email of videos and images of the books and they too have been sent to the proper authorities so that the last book in the series is not spoilt for the fans.
The fifth Harry Potter was just released and speculation
is beginning as to who should be cast for Half-Blood Prince which is set to start filming in September.
An article in New York magazine throws up a few names from the British thespian field and I do have to say some choices do make sense:
-- Jim Broadbent as Horace Slughorn
-- Bill Nighy as Rufus Scrimgeour
-- Daniel Day-Lewis as Marvolo Gaunt
-- Kristin Scott Thomas as Narcissa Malfoy
-- Ian McShane as Fenrir Grayback
-- Michael Sheen as the Prime Minister
Of course all those named above are purely the author ideas as to who will play the characters, we don't even know as of now who will or won't be in the movie. Expect some casting news in the coming weeks.
