Harrington Light Artillery (also identified in the records as Webb's Battery after its Captain) was formed in Richmond County, North Carolina. It has the distinction of serving as both a North Carolina and Virginia Light artillery company. In 1862, it became the 12th VA Bat. Co D Light Artillery . In November 1863 it was returned to North Carolina as the 13th NC Bat. Co A, serving for a time at Fort Fisher batteries (Gatlin and Anderson) and the Masonboro Salt Works. Afterwards it spent the duration of the war based at Weldon, NC  protecting the vital railroad line from Wilmington from Union threat.
