Faculty & Camp Staff
Camp Director - Tony Chapman
As a classically trained musician, Tony became involved in Barbershop Harmony back in 1973 as a founder member of the 'Worthingaires'. Since that time, he has sung with, and directed three choruses, Worthing, Portsmouth (Solent City) and Lincoln. He has also sung in a number of quartets.
As a member of BABS since 1974, his passion and dedication for the hobby stand him in good stead as Camp Director.
Finance Director / Registrar - Alan Goldsmith
As a relatively late comer to barbershop singing, Alan had to compensate by getting heavily involved once he started! He sings with two choruses, and is currently Chairman of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS), with responsibility for youth development. Now that he has retired from full-time paid employment he is able to work full-time (and unpaid) to promote barbershop singing.
Fund Raising / Campus Manager - Derek Wood MBE
As a late starter in Barbershop Singing, Derek feels he missed out on what he sees as a fantastic hobby . Since joining he found there was much to do and very quickly became part of ( His words ) a fantastic, and talented group of people .
Director of Music - Richard Curtis
Richard has been a singer and musician all his life and, being a father of three teenagers, he has a pretty good idea of what he's letting himself in for!!
Having sung barbershop for 25 years or so, Richard has a wealth of quartet and chorus experience and he is a gold medallist in both genres.

Boys' Chorus Section Leaders - Monkey Magic
BABS 2008 Quartet Gold Medalists
In August 2007 four young guys who sing with the National Barbershop Youth Chorus decided to sing a few numbers in quartet - and within nine months were BABS British Gold medal winning champions!
Al, Zac, Joe and Duncan have had a meteoric rise to become the best male quartet in the IK but are determined to stay together and improve even more. They have already appeared in the USA and are scheduled to return there in July 2009 to sing in both the International and Collegiate quart contests.
We are delighted that they have agreed to act as the section leaders for the boys' chorus at the UK's first Harmony Camp
Girls' Chorus Section Leaders - Breakthrough
Sweet Adelines International (Region 31) Bronze Medalists
Breakthrough are a barbershop quartet from Nottingham and hove only been singing together since March 2008. They competed at the Regional Convention in Birmingham and won the Bronze medal. Th belong to Sweet Adelines Internation (Region 31) an are part of the Lace City Chorus who are currently Regional Champions.
Veryan, Emily, Emmy and Sian have between them 28 years of barbershop experience and have pretty much let it take over their lives.
Breakthrough, along with Monkey Magic are a fantastic addition to this unique event.
Liaison/Welfare Officer - John Mould
John has been singing for most of his life, church choir, male voice choir and for the last 14 years, barbershop, during which time he has competed in both quartet and chorus competitions nationally and internationally.
Being the father of two daughters, John feels he is ideally placed to act as Liaison/Welfare Officer as he has had plenty of experience in 'keeping the peace'.
Male Campers Senior Mentor - John Carter
Barbershop thrust itself into John's life in the late 70's although he learnt something about singing and harmony as a choirboy and guitar player many years earlier. After nearly 30 years of chorus and quartet singing, he continues to marvel at how much more there is still to discover about vocal techniques and chords. And it's such fun when you work hard and you can hear it getting better.
His two grown up children appear to have survived his parenting. He believes in realistic, well defined boundaries applied with humour, understanding and respect both ways. That could be useful at Harmony Camp. And, of course, several years of trying to keep control of a chorus of grown (but you might not think so) men from out front might help too.
John is looking forward to helping all the 'campers' - students and faculty - to enjoy a harmonious few days, both musically and socially.
Female Campers Senior Mentor - Helen Carter
Helen has loved singing with others for many years - within school, church and community choirs. She became involved in the barbershop world as supporter of her husband 30 years ago, and then, about 11 years ago, was a founder member, and more recently director, of a female chorus. She alo sings with the national female chorus, 'Coast To Coast'.
Helen was head of year at a secondary school (that was some years ago, but 'the memory still lingers on'), and to help with that work, undertook some counselling training. Hopefully her experience of working for a mental healthy charity for the past 16 years will not need to be utilised during the camp.
Helen is also a parent and grandparent albeit that her son and daughter are in their 30's now, and the grandchildren are too young to participate as yet in this activity.
She thinks this is a wonderful venture, and is delighted to be a member of the faculty.
