Welcome to Hypo ALert Oz Service Dogs inc.
HALO Service Dogs is a charitable not for profit association, operated by dedicated volunteers, involved in the training and placement of hypo alert dogs for diabetics who meet the criteria. We are also equally dedicated to the education of the general public about the needs of people who have service dogs, and the rights of people accompanied by a service dog.
We are proud members of IAADP, International Association of Assistance Dog Partners. As such we will be adhering to their internationally accepted code of ethics, and following their guidelines in training and accreditation of dogs, and partners.
These dogs are the latest tool in Diabetes Management, as their advance warning of approaching hypoglycaemia, allows for treatment before the episode actually happens in many cases. A hypoglycaemic episode left untreated can lead to coma and even death.
Suitable applicants who meet the criteria, are given extensive training with their dog, and taught how to handle and care for a service dog. It is an expensive exercise training these dogs, and we rely on donations to fund training operations.
