Many people dismiss this film as "the worst in the series", but I think that's being a little harsh. Sure, it didn't have Michael Myers, but did it really need to? If watched with an open mind, Halloween III: Season of The Witch can be a very frightening and engaging film! The cinematography is beautiful, the acting (for a film of this type) is very good, and the death scenes are shocking and suprising! It also has a very interesting and creative storyline...
Also, what many "fans" don't seem to realise is that it was John Carpenter's intention to make a different "Halloween"-themed movie every year after part 2. After Myers was killed, there were to be additional movies that still captured that same spirit. Halloween 3 did an EXCELLENT job at maintaining the atmosphere and mood of the early films. However, at the time, "mainstream" audiences didn't seem to agree with that and just wanted another tired drawn-out story envolving a dead dude with very little plot. How sad. I wish people could just open their eyes and appreciate art. Halloween 3 is art. Halloween parts 4-8 are flashy MTV-style plotless sequels that offer NOTHING significant to the series and only fatten the pockets of the Producers, Marketing Execs and Advertisers. Halloween 3 at least tried to be scary and original, something parts 4-8 can't even pull off. If you just want a "body count" movie, go watch Friday The 13th part 1,000,000.
I hope after spending some time on this website, many of you "non believers" will decide to give Halloween III a second chance (or 3rd!). If you forget about Michael Myers, and watch it as a mid-80's horror piece, I think you will find it to be an enjoyful and well done film.
Thanks for your time...
