ABOUT US:
Halau Kaulana Ka Hale Kula O' Na Pua O' Ka ‘Aina is the
creation of Master Kumu Hula Randy Kaulana Chang. The halau opened in 1999, and it’s still
going strong. Uncle Randy, as he is
affectionately called, has been teaching the art of hula and the culture of Hawai’i for more than two decades, but his love of Hawai’i, its history,
its legends, and its life has been instilled in him since birth. It’s a passion he works hard to pass on to
his haumana, or students. Hula is more
than a dance. It’s the way Hawaiians
communicate, cherish, and preserve our
rich history. Kaulana Ka Hale Kula O’ Na
Pua O’ Ka ‘Aina is a proud member of the Kumu Hula Association of Southern
California. We have had the wonderful
opportunity of sharing our knowledge of dance and Hawai’i with other halau through workshops
and competitions. Most recently, we were
privileged to compete in E Hula Mau, Southern California’s
largest hula competition, and the world-famous Merrie Monarch Competition on
the Big Island of Hawai’i. Both competitions
are by invitation only. We have been
honored to perform with some of Hawai’i’s
most well known musicians, including the Makaha Sons and Kanilau. But it is important to know that our goal is
to expand our knowledge beyond Hawai’i.

In the fall, we were invited to a Native
American Conference of Elders and an All-Nations Pow-Wow, two amazing
opportunities we could not and would not pass up. It was a chance for us to learn and share the
knowledge of Native American Indian tribes and customs. For Uncle Randy, and his students, that’s
what Kaulana Ka Hale Kula O’ Na Pua O’ Ka ‘Aina is all about: teaching, learning, sharing, enjoying all
that Hawai’i
and other nations of this world have to offer.
