Have children chose 3 cities of their choice where muslims live around the world, and plot out the path to Mecca on a map.
What kind of terrain will the pilgrims have to cover while making hajj?
Hajj Re-inactment
First put on ihram (pilgrim's dress). Males wear two white sheets or towels. Wrap one piece around midriff to cover navel down to ankles and other piece is draped over shoulders. Females wear usual hijab.
Next, think as if you had done tawwaf. Watch this video of pilgrims perfoming sayi
Pretend to leave for Mina and recite talbiya. You can either recite it or listen to a recording of it and practice reciting it.
Labbayk Allahuma labbayk.
Labbayk la sharika laka labbayk.
Inn al-hamda wa ni'mata laka,
wal mulk, la sharika lak.
Pretend to go to Arafat and stand in remembrance of Allah. After "evening" has passed move to Muzdalifah and have the child pretend to sleep in his/her sleeping bag or in blankets under the stars. Pretend to pick up stones for the stoning back in Mina and pretend to throw the stones at the Jamarat while saying Allahu Akbar. Pretend to offer a sacrifice and have the children say Bismillah, allahu akbar while doing so.
After that pretend to shave the males hair and/or cut a piece of the female's hair.
Pretend as if tawaf again. Pretend to throw the stones again. ZamZam water.
Change back into regular clothes and set up a store to sell clothes and play food to pilgrims.
For added effect: Have children use brown paper or opened paper bags to draw scenery. they can make scenes of an airport, the sky & clouds, mountains & sand, the Ka'ba, entry into city. Position these around the home, so children will be moving from location to location.
Issue passports & plane tickets to children, and let them start the trip from home. Use your steps, or kitchen chairs as the plane seats.
When children finish making "hajj" Have them write about their experience and discuss the importance of this pillar, HAJJ.
Handwriting Practice
Have child locate ayahs and or hadiths that pertain to the Hajj and practive their handwriting, both Arabic (if able) and english
Health and Fitness
Research what safeguards have been put in place by the government of Saudi to secure the safety and well being of the pilgrims.
Example water misters, bottled water, fire retardent tents, security force etc.

What is a lap book? A lap book is basically an educational learning tool made from a folder and meant to take the place of worksheets.

Make a mini Hajj Book
Cut various pictures from magazines, old books, or clipart. On the front of the book, write Hajj and year ex. along with child’s name. For each page of book, write a word or a hadith related to Hajj or Dhul Hijjah. Glue on pictures that go along with words, then use colored pencils, markers, glitter. stickers, buttons, little odds and ends and other whatever else you like to decorate with. You can usually find mixed bags of decorative items at a good price at the craft stores.
Math
Incorporate math, by noting the mileage from the cities above to make math problems.
What does one have to have and how much does it cost to go to hajj? Example, passport, visa, plane tickets, ihraam, food. What others things may they need?
