WELCOME to HAARP Recording. This is an internet based record label, as well as an audio recording and mastering service. The acronym stands for "Highly Artistic Aural Recording Project", in case anyone wondered. You can find out about my ambient electronic project Theatre Of The Mind's first C.D. "Corporate Razor Blue"-  just go to the "T.O.T.M. page" link for more info. Also check out the "links to MP3 sites for HAARP" for Theatre Of The Mind and HAARP UNIT  MP3[s].
If you happen to be into my kind of music and would like to see about playing gigs together, contact me. I also do studio session work for other bands and projects. If you have any questions, please e-mail me.
YOU WANT YOUR MP3:  If you make your own music and want an MP3 site, and either prefer or need someone to set it up (for those who are too busy, hate computers, or don't have the patience to upload all those tunes and graphics)- well, you're in luck. I could do it for you. Just send me an e-mail and we can discuss what is needed to do the job (I'm reasonable!).

URL data (below): "No Pigeonholes" is a radio program done by musician, D.J. & great friend Don Campau, who is totally into the independent underground music scene. Don has had me on his show many times. I will have 2 live C.D. projects, one from performances on Don's show on KKUP 91.5 fm,, and one from a live mic on Solomon Grundy's show (he used to be on KFJC 89.7 fm, but still does a show there now & then).

A List Of Clients For HAARP Recording

   1. Musician and composer Christopher Gaynor has had my service as a live recording engineer, C.D. recording and mastering engineer from 1997 to the present. I have worked with recordings he has from several projects, including his jazz group The Phantom Band, McClure and Manzarek, and his avant- gard Ensemble Momo, which performed Antonin Artaud's last work "To Have Done With The Judgement Of God" with a musical score that Christopher wrote. The audio and video for this performance was recorded by Gene Wills, the post production is being done by me. I recorded several of The Phantom Band's live performances from 1997 to early 1999. Our current project is mastering the best tracks from the archives.***

   2. I did a digital transfer and mastering for Don Campau that was going to a German record label (Pink Lemon Records) for a Beatles tribute. Don did an incredible version of "Helter Skelter", with his wife Robin O'Brien singing their cover of "Fool On The Hill". The tunes were sent, but there was never any word on the release. This was in 1998.***

   3. I did a mastering from D.A.T. to C.D. for Robin O'Brien, this was her "Wearing The Angel" album.

   4. Beaux Davis, the lead vocalist, guitarist, and bandleader for the San Jose rock band Chant has also had my services as recording and mastering engineer, in addition to both of us working on graphics for C.D. covers. The first thing I did was master an E.P. of older Chant material, "The Green Tape", from D.A.T. to workstation to C.D. Then in july 2000 I recorded Chant's live performance on Don Campau's radio show, "No Pigeonholes". This was also mastered to C.D. The graphics we worked on were for these projects. In july 2002, Beaux was in a studio (Shays Rebellion, which was in Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco) putting the finishing touches on Chant's 2nd full length C.D. I contributed keyboard tracks to some tunes, "Scottish Rite" (a synth bagpipe track) and "Sage's Song" (the studio had a killer old Hammond B-3 organ with a Leslie cabinet[!], it was a blast noodling on that!)

On 3-14-2001, My newest project, Cerebral Codex, played on a live cable T.V. show in Pacifica, Ca. that featured myself (Brian Vaughan) on guitar and 2 friends (Craig Beebe on keyboards, Jeff Martinov on percussion). It was the Bruce Latimer Show on public access cable channel 8. The show starts at 9:00pm and goes 'til 10:00pm. every wednesday night, for any of you able to tune in (this is a plug for Bruce now- he's a great host). The tunes we performed are things I wrote while I was playing / recording with Skip Spence. Tune titles in the order of performance: "Endless Travels Of The Soul", "Soquel Creek", & "The Gateway". The show was recorded- the video is good, but I want to tweak the sound a bit first. Special thanks to Mike Somavilla for booking us and to Bruce Latimer for having us on the show. Bruce invited us to come back while still on the air, so this was a good gig & a just plain fun experience for all.

Anyone else interested in booking us, or even just me, please E-mail me. Go ahead, take a chance! There      are worse musicians playing out there & getting paid & booked again! For real!

11-12-2002 & 11-13-2002: Brian Vaughan played a solo guitar performance gig on KKUP 91.5fm, on Larry Grant's " 'Til Morning Come" show (it runs from 12:00am to 6:00am, so that's the reason for the "double date"!). Larry started off the show with some recordings of Moby Grape tunes, mostly written by Skip Spence, also solo stuff from Skip's "Oar" album, in addition to songs from the "More Oar" tribute done by Reprise, followed by some Hawkwind tunes from the '70[s]. While Brian set up gear to perform, the first broadcast of the Cerebral Codex project he's also in took place, with the airing of a 40 minute epic called "Prehistoric Future", which will be on the first album. Brian did a set somewhere over an hour in length (a bit of it was interview segments), playing some old tunes that never got to the public before, & a few improv tunes, 2 on e-bow. Larry really liked the tunes, is apparently a new fan, & said he wanted to get Brian back on the show sometime. After the live tunes, songs were played from some of Brian's friends, one from Beaux Davis & his band Chant called "You Can Fly", & also one from Doug Pearson's band D'Jelly Brains called "Don't Go Down In The Cellar"- (Doug is also in another project with Brian called El Perro Vomito Y Su Orquestra), & then one from a C.D. he mastered for Strictly Nosehairs On Tap called "Mama Was A Psycho Bitch From Hell". Then bandmate (in Cerebral Codex) Craig Beebe's Maxwell's Demon C.D. was played during gear breakdown & packup, after that fellow Moby Grape discussion list member Greg Mosner had 2 tracks from his C.D. played on the air. At least 4 people called in during the show with favorable comments during the live performance segments- not bad for a late night program. The best sounding live recordings from this gig will probably be released under the HAARP UNIT name, since most of the material was written for that project.

Report on the Beaux & HAARP UNIT gig for 8-15-2003

It went alright on friday, there weren't a lot of people out there (maybe 15- at most), but both Beaux & myself were met with much
appreciation, the park Ranger (Aniko) who booked us & the audience
both liked our tunes. She was talking
positive about my stuff to the audience just before my 2nd set. There
was a guy who stayed around & talked to us, even thanked us for
playing there, so that was cool. He said one thing he liked about both
of us musically is that he couldn't predict our material, it really is
"off the beaten path", so to speak. He also asked questions about our
past projects & if we were going to play together in the same band
sometime, & not just as separate artists, so he was pretty interested.
They have a ranger station in the
middle of the park just before you get to the lake, there are supplies
like light "portable" platforms they set up for the concerts, with a
canopy to protect from the sun, & a power cable & box with 4 outlets. So we play out to the people at the picnic tables at the ranger
station. Nice little gig, actually.
After we packed up & left, we went to another place (a nightclub)
& checked out a prospect to jam there, so pretty soon we will be trying our hands at doing some "happy hour" concerts.

Cheers,
       Brian

Setlist for The HAARP UNIT on 8-15-2003.

Here's all the tunes I played:

1. "Space Orchestra" (a synth soundscape, new)

2. "Mystic Reflections" (a guitar piece, written in 1982)

3. "Photon Stream" (a new synth tune)

4. "Ride The Fair Winds" (a guitar piece written in 1983)

5. "D.S.L. (Dimension of Sound & Light)" (a guitar piece, written in
1983)

6. "Galactic Anthem" (a new keyboard & guitar soundscape).

The only "recent" exposure the older tunes got was last november on KKUP 91.5fm with Larry Grant. Back when they were written, all the
tunes from the '80[s] used to get "showcased"-(ha!) in a building with
a huge plate glass window I often did nightwatches at in S.F., people
would walk by, stop & check it out, with about a 75% favorable
response! I got a kick out of that.

Cheers,
       Brian

Gig Report & HAARP UNIT Setlist for 8-22-2003.

The gig for Beaux & The HAARP UNIT at Vasona on 8-22-2003 was cool,
not many people showed up, but we were very well
recieved again & invited back for next year's series & also to one more for this season,
which was to be a sort of "best of the bands" type
of event, supposed to be on a weekend (better slot, for sure!). We also have
an great reference with the lady who booked us for this (Thank you, Aniko!).
Cheers,
           Brian

Gig Report for 8-29-2003 at the Quarter Note.

B.V. & the machines during a HAARP UNIT set.

On 8-29-2003 Beaux & I did our first gig at the Quarter Note
nightclub in Sunnyvale, Ca., playing during happy hour on friday.
So we went in & played short sets (a half hour apiece), & they all loved it.
My friend CraigBeebe (from the Cerebral Codex project) showed up for a bit of
audience support & handled the photography, & unexpectedly an old
friend of Beaux's (Alex) happened to be there, too. Alex just happens
to be in a band called Swaybone, also based in Hayweird (my town).
The owner invited us back for next week,
also we got good feedback from some staff, etc. A fellow named Doc
who does blues jams there shook all of our hands as we were leaving.
Then Beaux, Craig & myself went to dinner at the Indian restaurant
next door. It was a great night! Looking forward to our next gig
there, I plan to record this one (45 minute sets for both of us!).

The HAARP UNIT setlist:

1. "Space Orchestra" (synth)

2. "Soquel Creek" (guitar)

3. "The Hidden Nebula" (synth)

4. "Endless Travels Of The Soul" (guitar)

Cheers,
           Brian
