When she was 9 years old Gwen Faye’s aunt Helen gave her a precious gift. She taught her how to crochet. Her childhood dream was to one day have a boutique where she could sell custom-designed crocheted sweaters. As she grew older, she developed a love for this craft that she still does not understand. In college, as she pursued her graphic design degree (because one day someone told her that she could make money with that art form), Gwen designed an editorial spread for one of her classes. It was a mock article about Gisela, her fictitious boutique.
Unfortunately, as the years passed, so did that childlike faith in her idea, and the dream was deferred by maturity. On Thanksgiving 2002, with a cloud of witnesses (in the form of her creative friends), Gisela Crocheted Wears was actually born.

When Gwen studied Spanish in high school, everyone had to be called by the Spanish counterpart of their given names. Since "Gwen" did not translate, her teacher called her "Gisela" (pronounced "Hee-say’-la").
