The Late Seamus Keevans
This page is a start to a tribute about the late great Seamus Keevans-An Peileador.
Seamus was and will be remembered rightly so a legend.
This page will be continuously updated over the next few days as we piece together the story of this remarkable man.
He’s stories myths will all hopefully be recorded over time please bear with us as this is just a snap shot of a true gael. Seamus was a member of the Gusserane O Rahilly’s club and trained/coached/mentored everyone who is playing Gaelic games in the parish of Tintern at the present moment and many more who are now further a-field.
An quick overview of his accomplishments
Senior Titles -7
Taghmon Camross 1955 & 1957
Cavan Gaels 1965
Kill Waterford 1966,67,68 (He also won a hurling title with)
Gusserane O Rahillys 1975
He also played in the 1982 final verus HWH Bunclody at the age of 49, a feat never to be surpassed in our club at least.
Other clubs he played with included Ballymoate (Sligo), Garda & Skibereen ( Cork ).
He played on the last Wexford team to reach a Leinster final in 1956 but he also played intercounty for Wexford, Waterford , Cork , Sligo and Cavan.
He managed a variety of teams including Gusserane, Wexford, Waterford , neighbouring clubs as well the Olegate Camogie team whom he coached to a Junior & Senior success.
His name is intertwined and interlinked with football in not just Gusserane and Wexford but Ireland in general.
He was always to be seen every Saturday morning passing on the love of the game and encouraging and coaching the children of the parish. This was the highlight of the week for the children of the parish I should know we were taught the love of the game in the same way by the same man.
Again I want to pass on our deepest condolences to the Keevan’s family from all involved with Gusserane O’Rahilly’s GAA club and say thanks for all he did for our Club, words will never be able to measure or express this.
