Network
Question: Can you play the game offline once you've downloaded the game?
Answer: Er, nope. There's a reason it's called a network game after all. :) Initially you are required to download the game itself as well as any subsequent updates made to the game. However, those components can't be accessed unless you go online - all your game data is stored on servers, not on your phone itself.
Question: What platform is the game available on?
Answer: I hear this one more often than I would expect. The game is currently available on selected phones hosted by the following carriers: DoCoMo, AU, and Softbank. Keep in mind which model of phone you wish to purchase, because as I've said, not every phone will be able to support the game. Initially, the game was only available on the following DoCoMo phones:
(900i series) P900i, P900iV, N900i, N900iS, SH900i
(901i series) SH901iC, F901iC, N901iC, P901i, D901i
For further information on each mobile and its specifications, please refer to the NTT DoCoMo webpage, which is also available in English.
Question: Can I subscribe if I live outside of Japan?
Answer: Not yet, though Square-Enix has announced that it is aiming for a 2006 release of the game in North America, on a mobile platform.
Materia
Question: What are they talking about when they say you can create Materia?
Answer: Your mobile phone is equipped with a camera. In the game's main menu, there is a place where you can create Materia. Clicking on this option activates your camera. Once you have taken your picture, the photograph blurs and creates a Materia based on the dominant colour of the photograph. For example, if you take a photo of something that is light blue, you may end of up with Water or Blizzard Materia. It is possible to create higher grade Materia, i.e. Watera or Blizarra by taking pictures that enhance the blue tones. In other words, the bluer the photograph turns out, the higher the chance that you'll end up with a higher grade Materia.
