Daley's Warrior Promotions
According to a phone conversation with the President of Daley's Warriors Promotions:
The brightest prospect in the state of Louisiana now has a belt to prove it. "Lethal" Johnnie White of St. Martinsville, Louisiana captured the vacant Louisiana state heavyweight title Saturday night, December 8th at the Coushatta casino and resort in Kinder, Louisiana. White knocked down challenger Ray Lunsford (19-9-2) of Coldwater, Mississippi, down twice before referee Russell Naquin put an end to the bout 2:35 into the very first round. White stays unbeaten; his record now sits at 18-0 with 16 knockouts, with 11 of the knockouts coming into the very first round.
Undefeated welterweight Ed Crosby of Lake Charles, Louisiana moved to 6-0 with another win over Steve Verdin (8-35-2) in a 6 round bout. The two boxers have previously matched up earlier this year.
Ville Platte, Louisiana cruiserweight Royphy Solieau (4-9) avenged an earlier defeat by punishing Houma, Louisiana's Brent "The Terminator" Carline (2-2) in the opening round. Carline made it through the first round be declined to answer the bell to start round 2. Carline has not lost two straight bouts.
Local heavyweight Terry John (1-0) made a splash in the pro ranks by stopping Brad Moss (0-3) in his debut. John hails from Kinder, Louisiana.
These boxing matches were part of a mixed boxing and MMA event put on by Daley's Warriors of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Tabb Stops Reyna in 2!
Gulfcoastboxing.com Exclusive
December 5, 2007
Last Friday night at the Castine Center in Mandeville, Louisiana Gulf Coast Pro Boxing held their inaugural boxing event.
The main event saw Kevin Rooney trained Jerome Tabb (8-3) uppercut his way to a third round TKO victory over Ismael Reyna (4-3-2). The bout was one sided as Tabb applied pressure to the game Reyne. Tabb had a point taken in round 2 for low blows, but dropped Reyna twice in the final round before referee Russell Naquin ended the bouts.
It was Tabb’s first bout since March of 06 and his first win since May of 05.
“Smoking” Jay Krupp (10-1) ended his 19th month layoff with a 5 round beating of Meridian, Mississippi’s Michael “The Boss” Moss. Krupp took two rounds to shake off a little ring rust. In round three Krupp dropped Moss with a nicely placed left hook. If round 4 would have had 10 more seconds the fight would have been waived off. Round 5 saw Krupp finish off Moss and knock him down for the count.
“Southern Pride” Gary Bergeron (7-1) blasted out late sub Ricky Dinkins of Mobile, Alabama in two rounds. Bergeron dominated round one with some vicious body work and finished off Dinkins with a huge left hook 1:12 into round 2.
Heavyweight Billy “3rd Ward” Willis (9-11-1) won a workmen like decision over a game but limited “Big” Will Cook. (8-6). Scores were 60-54, 60-54 and 59-55.
Female action saw Tiffany Junot (3-1) win her second straight bout as she put the first blemish on Melisenda Perez’s (2-1) professional record. Perez’s corner threw in the towel in the second round.
Renell Griffin (1-1) won his first professional bout with a 4 round decision win over a very game Bobby “Hallow Point” Holms (0-1).

Rumble at the Rock

December 5, 2007
Roy Jones’s Jr,’s Square Ring, Inc., Down South Entertainment in association with Hard Rock Hotel and Casino will present “Rumble at the Rock”, a 6 bout professional boxing event this coming Friday night (December 7) at the Hard Rock Live Arena inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. Bell time is 8:00pm.
The main event will showcase former title challenger Ezra Sellers (28-7) of Washington, D.C. in a 10 round cruiserweight bout. Sellers 39, is making one last big push to finally capture cruiserweight gold. This past July Sellers ended a 34 month layoff when he stopped local tough man Troy Beets (12-11-1) on the Roy Jones vs Anthony Handshaw undercard
The opponent for Sellers will be another local toughman Kenny “The Raven” Craven (28-19) of Ellisville, Mississippi. Sellers will not surprise Craven as Kenny has faced his fare share of names in the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. It was shown in his last bout as Craven faced former Olympic gold medalist and IBF champion Vassiliy Jirov.
The co-feature of the night on paper has the chance to be one of the best local matchups of the year. Former NABF light middleweight champion Jason Papillion (39-12-1) of Lafayette, Louisiana is set to face former IBA Intercontinental light middleweight champion and Gulfport, Mississippi native “Slick” Willie Lee (14-5) in an 8 round light middleweight bout.
This is a crossroads battle; a win for Papillion will propel him to a big fight in 2008. Lee needs the win to put him back on the map as he last lost two bouts.
In a 6 round heavyweight rematch Gulfport, Mississippi’s Aaron Lyons (7-2) will look to prove that his win over “Big G” Gabe Brown (18-7-3) earlier this year was no fluke. In their previous bout Lyons’ youth and power proved to be too much for the older Brown to handle. Brown’s coach Alton Merkerson saw enough in round 6 and threw in the towel. Brown’s people have been calling for a rematch ever since.
Martin Verdin (14-11-1) of Dulac, Louisiana will meet Joseph Smith (3-2-1) of Mobile, Alabama in a 6 round light heavyweight bout.

Velez Wins IBA Title!
Gulfcoastboxing.com Exclusive
November 28, 2007
Last Saturday night at the newly remodeled Paragon Casino in Marksville, Louisiana was supposed to be a glorious night for local favorite "The Fighting Marine" Kasha Chamblin (10-2), but no one gave Hollywood, Florida's Ada "The Ace" Velez (16-3-2) the memo.
From the opening bell Velez out-hustled the former marine. From the outset Velez fought the perfect fight as she did not give Chamblin the opportunity to get her rhythm started. Velez pocketed many rounds by simply beating Chamblin to the punch and not giving her a chance to get many punches off. Both fighters showed championship heart by slugging it out in the final round. Chamblin knew she needed a knockout to win, and she did her best by throwing punches for the entire round. Velez countered by not running from the desperate Chamblin. The two female warriors went toe-to-toe for the final minute of the round.
Velez swept every round on the GCB scorecard. Chamblin did, however, make round 8 and 10 very close. Official scores were 100-90, 98-92, 97-93. With the victory Velez takes home the IBA super bantamweight title. The second championship of her career.
The co-feature of the night saw Heath "Lil Rocky" Nichols (7-1) out-gun Jason "Hot Rod" Doucet (4-11). Fan favorite Nichols came to the ring accompanied by two rappers singing his "theme song". Doucet was noticeably in shape for this bout and had his moments, but Nichols seemed to have more ammunition. In round 3 Nichols hit Doucet with a left hook that sent him down. To his credit Doucet was able to beat the count, but seconds later the bout was waived off by referee Russell Naquin.
The official time was 2:15 into the 3rd round. Nichols has now won two bouts, both by stoppage since his lone defeat.
Light middleweights "Iron Bull" Mike Martinez (5-2) and Gundrick "Shogun" King (3-0) battled in the fight of the night. King came out strong and toward the end of round one connected with a vicious uppercut to the chin of Martinez, but shockingly it had no effect on Martinez. Martinez's jab and quick right hand wore down the smaller King. King had a point taken in round 4 for low blows. Scorecards read 60-53, 59-54, 58-55 all for Martinez. It was his fourth win in a row. For King it was his first loss.
File this one under "hard to watch". Herman "Skip" Scott (now 1-1) of Houston,Texas took on Donzelle Atkins (0-5) of Monroe, Louisiana in a battle of winless heavyweights. Round one saw Atkins score a knockdown and Scott score a takedown. Round 2 saw Scott score a knockdown and Atkins had a point taken for head butting. Round three saw Scott score another takedown. This one had referee Rick Exe show a sense of humor as he acted like a wrestling referee and got down on the ground and counted to three! Later in the round Scott scored another knockdown. Finally, :15 in the 4 th round Scott knocked down Atkins again, and referee Rick Exe showed the fans some mercy and waived the bout off giving Skip Scott the first win of his career. Atkins remains winless now in 5 bouts.
The opening bout of the card saw former WBC female middleweight champion Yvonne Reis (7-12) score an easy 4 round decision over tough Texan Valerie "The Wolfe" Mahfood (19-14). Scores were 40-36, 39-37, 39-37
Promoter: Mickey Daigle and Keeppunching Entertainment. Matchmaker: Kerry Daigle.

Heath Nichols out gunned Jason Doucet in a scheduled 6 rounder. Doucet had a few bright spots, but Nichols caught him with a left hook in round 3 that sat Doucet down. Doucet beat the count but the bout was stopped shortly after. Doucet has now lost 6 of his last 7 and 5 by KO or TKO

Chamblin to fight for IBA title!
Dan McDonald
November 3, 2007
Only two women's boxing world title bouts have ever been held in Louisiana, and both involved Lafayette-based fighters.
The first came 10 years ago when Deirdre Gogarty won the International Boxing Federation featherweight crown from Bonnie Canino in New Orleans. The second will come on Nov. 24 when Lafayette's Kasha Chamblin takes on Ada Velez of Hollywood, Fla., for the International Boxing Association junior featherweight title at Paragon Casino and Resort in Marksville.
"I'm more than ready for this," said Chamblin (10-1-0, 5 KOs), who will be making her fifth Paragon appearance as the main event of a five-bout card promoted by Mickey Daigle and KeepPunching Entertainment. "I need really great fighters to bring out the best in me, and I've got one here."
Velez (15-3-2, 6 KOs) has held three world titles, including winning the IBA bantamweight title in 2001.
She also held both the WIBA bantamweight and super bantamweight titles during her career, but "retired" from the sport after a Jan. 17, 2004 loss to Anita Christensen in Denmark in a bout for both the WIBA and WIBF bantamweight belts.
Velez, dubbed "La Nina de Puerto Rico" for her native country, returned to the sport in August and is 1-1 including a decision win over Jackie Chavez in New Mexico on Sept. 21 in her last action.
"I'm a fan of my opponent," said Chamblin, who is coming off an impressive decision win over nationally-ranked Donna Biggers on Aug. 25 in her last bout. "There were some other fighters we could have fought for a title, but she's held this title before. She's earned this shot and I think we've earned it, too."
It was that win over Biggers at Blackham Coliseum that convinced trainer/manager Beau Williford and Daigle - the first female promoter in the Southern U.S. to stage a casino-based female world title fight with a major sanctioning body - that Chamblin was ready to seek a title belt.
Chamblin won every round on the judges' cards against Biggers, her second test against a world-class fighter. The first came last December when she lost by an eighth-round TKO to Ina Menzer in Berlin, Germany, for the WIBF featherweight title.
"My confidence is so much better now," Chamblin said. "My team told me early on in training for the Biggers fight that we had this one, and that was the first time I went into a fight with that kind of confidence in myself. I know Donna was tough, and chopping someone that tough helped my confidence a lot."
Chamblin hasn't taken a break from training since beginning preparations for the Biggers fight, and on Wednesday sparred 10 three-minute rounds (women's bouts have two-minute rounds). She said Thursday she's down to 118 pounds, well under the 122-pound junior featherweight limit.
"This is the best shape I've ever been in this far out from a fight," she said. "I don't have to worry about being in shape. I'm just working on mistakes that I made last time."
Subplots abound for the Nov. 24 fight. Gogarty, the Irish native who came to Lafayette at the start of her pro career, was a mentor for Chamblin and is now on the Louisiana State Boxing Commission. Canino, who lost to Gogarty in the state's only other major women's title bout, is the trainer for Velez, who has been in eight title fights in her career.

September 4, 2007
Prize Fight Boxing in association with Bayou Promotions presents “ESPN Friday Night Fights” this Friday night at the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. As usual with Prize Fight and Bayou Promotions the big names will be out in full force. The televised main event will feature former undisputed world welterweight champion Zab “Super” Judah (34-5) of Brooklyn, New York taking on tough Puerto Rican Edwin Vasquez (22-10-2) in a 10 round welterweight bout. Judah is on quest for another world title shot. In his last bout he was stopped in the 11th round of a grueling contest against current champion Miguel Cotto.
The opening TV bout of the night will pit two huge heavyweights against one another. Tennessee’s Adam “Swamp Donkey” Richards (18-1) will ride a 16 bout winning streak into his bout with Cuban Rafael Pedro. Richards is coming off of a vicious 4th round knockout win over Billy “3rd Ward” Willis, which was featured on world wide PPV. Pedro on the other hand is coming off of a 10 round decision loss to Chris Henry for the IBA Continental heavyweight title. This bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.
A late addition to this card is world rated light welterweight Lamont Peterson of Washington, DC he will face Frankie Santos (15-3) of Puerto Rico. Peterson is currently ranked no. 5 by the WBA and no. 11 by the WBO. Both Peterson brothers seemed to be participating in “stay busy” fights as Lamont’s younger brother Anthony scored an 8 round decision win this past weekend in Tunica, MS.
Also in a featured bout is undefeated super middleweight Josiah Judah (8-0), brother of Zab Judah. He will be featured in a 6 round bout; his opponent has not yet been named.
The undercard bouts are where the local boxers will shine.
In a bout that has been at least two years in the making, former super middleweight title challenger Will “Kid Fire” McIntyre (36-4-1) of Covington, LA he is slated to take on “Smiling” Martin Verdin of Dulac, LA. These two fighters were scheduled to face each other on two other separate occasions. McIntyre has not fought since losing a split decision to JoJo Akien in May of ’05. Verdin has hit a cold steak as of late losing his last three bouts. Verdin and his camp are calling this bout a “do or die” situation. This bout is scheduled for 6 rounds.
All action and crowd favorite Gary “Southern Pride” Bergeron (5-1) of Chalmette, LA will also be in action. His opponent has not been set for his 4 round contest.
Rounding out the card will be another crowd favorite Joseph Smith (2-2-1) of Mobile, Alabama will do battle with Gevonte Davis of Gulfport, MS. Smith is coming off of a spectacular 1st round knockout of previously undefeated Franco Dunmoodie this past July. This will be 4 round bout in the super middleweight division.
Tickets are on sale now at all Ticketmaster locations.
Judah Wraps Up Camp!

September 4, 2007
Prize Fight Boxing Press Release
Memphis-TN-Thursday August 30, 2007-Prize Fight Promotions, Super Promotions and Bayou Promotions in association with Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi, MS. Today announced the return of Zab “Super” Judah (34-5-0 25KO's), to the Prize Fight gym in Memphis. Judah is wrapping up his training camp, and preparing to face Edwin Vazquez (22-10-2, 8KO's) Friday, September 7, on the season finale of ESPN's Friday Night Fights, live from the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Biloxi Mississippi.
Judah's last outing was June 9, 2007, going head to head in a highly anticipated fight against undefeated WBA Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto before a sell out crowd at Madison Square Garden New York. He came out strong in the first round before suffering a low blow, another accidental low blow hurt him more than the first and from that point on was unable to fully recover.
“This is a must win for Zab, as he makes his way back into contention in the welterweight division. Zab is a three time world champion, on any given night at his best he can beat any of the welterweights out there today, Judah hurt Cotto in the first and third rounds and dropped Mayweather, although the ref declared it a slip. A win puts him squarely back in the game." Said Russ Young.
“I am a three time world champion, I'm want a fourth title, I am the best out there, I have fought the best in the world, I've had a few diversions along the way but that's boxing, when I am in top form no one can beat me. My camp has been very productive, I feel good.” Said Judah.

Dardar Wins War!
Gulfcoastboxing.com Exclusive
August 27, 2007
Gladiator Academy’s “No Surrender” excited a packed house at the North Park Rec Center in Denham Springs, Louisiana this past Saturday night. The event was a sell out and more than 100 people had to be turned away at the door.
This was a 12 bout card including 10 MMA bouts and two professional boxing matches.
The first bout of the night pitted Thomas Dardar (2-0) fighting out of the Bayouside Boxing Club in Larose, Louisiana against Baton Rouge native Mark Hinson of the Gladiators Academy. This was Hinson’s professional debut and his lack of boxing experience showed as he was content on throwing one punch at a time and hoping to land a big bomb. In the mean time Dardar, who made his professional debut one week ago, came out throwing punches in bunches. Round 2 saw Hinson trying to time Dardar and the strategy paid off as he was able to land some big clean shots on the on coming Dardar. Dardar took over in round 3 as his nonstop style looked to be too much for Hinson to handle.
The final round should be listed for consideration for “round of the year” for Louisiana Boxing. Hinson came out on fire, as his lack of punch output in round 3 seemed to be a plan to conserve energy. Dardar was able to keep him off with his jab, but with about one minute to go in the fight Hinson caught Dardar with a straight right hand, Hinson then went to work, but the resilient Dardar never stopped throwing punches, and with exactly 10 seconds left in the bout Dardar was able to land a counter left hook that sent Hinson down to the canvas. The 1500 people in attendance showed their appreciation for both fighters. All three judges saw the bout for Thomas Dardar 40-35.
The co-main event of the night was also a professional boxing bout with “Pretty” Rickey Kinney (2-0) of Gladiator’s Academy taking on Jerrick Stephens (1-10) of Shreveport, Louisiana. This bout was all Kinney as he controlled Stephens from the opening bell. Stephens made it through round 1 by holding and spitting out his mouth piece. Kinney scored 3 knockdowns in round 2 and referee Kenny Licata deemed Stephens unable to continue after the final knockdown.
After the main event Thomas Dardar was named fighter of the night, he received a trophy and a $500 bonus.

The first of which will pit Thibodaux, Louisiana’s Thomas Dardar (1-0) against debuting Mark Hinson of Baton Rouge, LA. Dardar made a stellar debut just last weekend, taking out Michael Taylor in the opening round. Hinson weighed in at 154lbs while Dardar came it at 147lbs. This bout is scheduled for 4 rounds and will be the opening bout of the night.
The co-main event of the night will feature Gladiator Academy’s own light welterweight Rickey Kenney (1-0) taking on 10 fight veteran Jerrick Stephens of Shreveport, LA. This bout is also scheduled for 4 rounds. Weights are unknown.
The MMA main event will feature Kyle Bradley taking on John Leblanc.
Reportedly over 800 tickets have already been presold and only 300 more tickets are available. Tickets can be purchased by calling 225.218.8871 or by visiting the North Park Assembly Center which is located at 30372 Eden Church Road in Denham Springs.
Miller Claims the Upset!
Gulfcoastboxing.com Exclusive
August 20, 2007
It was a night of ups and downs Saturday night at the Civic Center in Houma, Louisiana when In Ya Face Fight Productions presented “Brawl Till Ya Fall” and fall they did as 5 of the 7 bouts ended before the final round.
Dulac, LA’s own “Smiling” Marin Verdin (14-10-1) dropped his second consecutive main event bout as he lost a lopsided 6 round decision to veteran spoiler Shannon “Trouble” Miller (22-37-8) of Columbus, MS. Verdin was the favorite in the bout, but no one seemed to let Miller in on that bit of information as he came out and established a pace and took the fight to Verdin landing at will. Verdin had little fire in his punches. Miller banked every round and went home with a 60-54 score across the board victory over Louisiana state champion Martin Verdin.
Zane “The Train” Marks (16-3) win a closer than expected 6 round decisions over the gutty Anthony “Bad News” Greeley (7-25-2) of Monroe, LA. Greeley seemed content on fighting the last 10 seconds of the round and seemed to convince one judge that he had done enough to split the fight with Marks, the other two judges saw the bout 58-56 for Marks.
The fireworks went off after the bout was over with when local MMA fighter John LeBlanc jumped the guard rails and climbed into the ring. Marks then grabbed the house microphone and proceeded to challenge LeBlanc to a fight in “his sport” and Marks let it be known that he is willing to enter the cage to make the fight happen. LeBlanc then had to be restrained by security. This started a melee that lead to at least 3 people being thrown out of the Civic Center.
Former IBA champion Jeanne “Boom Boom” Martinez (14-6-4) started her comeback with a 2nd round TKO win over Garland, Texas’s Savannah Payne (0-1). The opening round was a close call. Payne came back in round two and seemed to hurt Martinez, but was unable to keep on the attack as Martinez landed a right hand that put Payne down for the count.
Undefeated heavyweight prospect “Lethal” Johnnie White moved his record to 17-0 with a 4th round stopped of veteran “Big” John Dixon (5-28) of Gulfport, MS. White dominated the bout from the opening bell. In round 4 Dixon threw a right hand and slipped on the canvas. While falling Dixon’s knee bent underneath him. The doctor deemed him unable to continue, thus giving White the TKO win.
Event promoter Justin Verdin (3-0, 3KO’s) didn’t have an opponent one hour before the event started, but Marrero’s Jeremy Williams (0-1) bravely stepped in. Verdin thanked him by stalking him throughout the first round then landed a left hook bomb in round 2 that broke the nose of Williams. Williams tried to beat the count, but his legs would not let him.
“Awesome” Scott Rossum (13-2) continued his winning ways, this time by disposing of journymen Gary Butler (12-30) of Ft. Worth, Texas 2:53 seconds into round 2.
Welterweight Thomas Dardar (1-0) of Thibodaux, LA made a successful professional debut with a first round TKO over 16 fight veteran Michael Taylor (2-14) of Texarkana, AR. The official time was 2:56.

Thompson and Adams Ends in a NC!
Gulfcoastboxing.com Exclusive
August 7, 2007
Lauderdale Ag Center, Meridian, MS - In a fight that was billed by Skyy Promotions as “The Final Chapter” between Brad “Boom Boom” Thompson (15-11-1) and Antonio Adams (6-17-1) ended in disappointing fashion. Adams swarmed Thompson from the opening bell and dropped him with a barrage of punches. Thompson regained his composure and kept Adams off for the remainder of the round. In round two the fight heated up with a few exchanges, but an accidental clash of heads “cut” the bout short. After the head clash a cut that reportedly needed 9 stitches to seal opened over the left eye of the crowd favorite Thompson. On advice from the ringside doctor referee Keith Hughes stopped the bout. The official result of the bout is a no contest.
That leaves the 7 bout series between Thompson and Adams at 4 wins for Thompson, 1 win for Adams, 1 draw and 1 no contest. The Southeastern Boxing Federation middleweight title remains vacant.
The co-featured bout of the night was also a rematch, and a bout that also got cut short. But this time it was from a punch. Tuscaloosa, Alabama’s Marcus “Migraine” McGee (19-13) pounded on a game Larry Burrell (1-8-1) for 5 rounds before a cut developed on Burrell’s right eye. The bout was scheduled for 6 rounds. McGee has now won 3 straight bouts.
Crowd favorite Keith “Untouchable” Thompson (3-0) of Meridian, MIssissippi blasted out Billy “The Kid” Outley (13-46-1) of Monroe, Louisiana in 2:36 of the very first round. Outley was down 3 times, all from body shots.
Slidell, Louisiana’s Dennis Siurgi made an impressive professional debut with a workman like 4 round decision over Meridian, Mississippi’s Donald Body (1-5) Scores were 39-37 across the board.
Welterweight Anthony “Animal” Middlebrooks (7-2, 6KO’s) was forced to go the distance for the first time in his 9 bout career as he scored a 4 round decision victory over Ocean Springs, Mississippi’s Leo Perez (0-2). Middlebrooks took the first round to figure out Perez, then went to work and took control over the final 3 rounds. Perez was put down in round 3 from a body shot. All three judges saw it for Middlebrooks with the scores of 40-35, 40-35 and 38-37.
Tuscaloosa, Alabama middleweight Gundrick “Shogun” King (3-0, 3KO’s) continues to impress. He extended his first round knockout streak to three with a first round destruction over Tupelo, Mississippi’s Richard Swindell (3-17). Referee Keith Hughes counted out Swindell 2:13 into the opening round. Swindell was down three times.
In the most entertaining fight of the night two cagey veterans Michael “The Boss” Moss (11-31-3) and Ricky “El Matador” Dinkins (10-40-3) fought to a unanimous draw over 4 rounds (37-37 x3). Moss came out the aggressor in the opening round. In round 2 Dinkins went to work on the body of the 43 year old Moss and took the round. Dinkins was in control until late in round 3 when he landed a counter uppercut that put Moss down. In round 4 Dinkins was still looking to counter Moss, but in the process Moss landed a big right hand that put Dinkins down. He was able to finish the bout. These two veterans put on a solid fight and the crowd showed their appreciation with a standing ovation.
In a battle of Alabama heavyweights making their professional debut Leon “Beatdown” Dukes (1-0) of Tuscaloosa cruised to a decision win over Oren Hall (0-1) of Pritchard by the scores 40-36, 40-36 and 40-37.
The opending bout of the night saw light heavyweight Ernest Parfait (2-16) pick up the second win of his career as he scored a unanimous decision win over Joey “KO” Hixon (1-6). Scores were 40-36 across the board. Hixon was down in round 1 from a body shot. Parfait has now won 2 out of his last 3 bouts. An interesting note, Hixon's only victory has come against Parfait's nephew (Paul Foret).
Porter Cruises Over Bryan at Knox Arena!
August 6, 2007
Memphisboxing.com
Olive Branch, MS – Terry Porter cruised to a unanimous eight-round decision over Lloyd “Jabba” Bryan in their Main Event Cruiserweight bout on Saturday night from the Knox Arena. Knockout Promotions promoted the show.
The first round was a feel out round for both fighters. During the second round, Porter began using his jab to set up his left. He was able to land his left effectively to the head of Lloyd Bryan, who seemed to have a very hard time keeping his balance.
During rounds three, four and five, Terry Porter battered Lloyd Bryan to the head and body seemly at will. Bryan was stumbling around the ring trying to maintain his balance while throwing punches that were just not landing.
The final three rounds all went the same way. Porter was able to use his jab to set up his left hand. He was able to throw multi-punch combinations to pound on Bryan. Lloyd’s timing was way off and his unstable legs made it impossible to defend himself, let alone make any attempt at stopping or even slowing down Porter’s attack.
All three judges at ringside saw the fight at 79-73 in favor of Terry Porter. TheDailySports.com scored the fight 80-72 also in favor of Terry Porter. With his victory, Porter has earned the right to fight Kenny “The Raven” Craven for the vacant NAMA Cruiserweight Title in September.
Lloyd Bryan drops to 22-17 (10 KO) and should consider retirement. He did not display the ability to continue boxing on a professional level.
In the co-featured bout, Joe “Bazooka” Linenfelser used his superior hand speed and overall talent to stop Jonathon Bruce in the third round of their scheduled six round Middleweight contest.
Linenfelser used an effective jab throughout the fight. He was able to land it flush on the face of Bruce, which at times seemed to freeze the journeyman fighter. After five or six solid jabs to the face, Bazooka landed a solid right to floor Jonathan Bruce during the second round. He was up quickly but was dropped again by a right that landed on the top of his head. Jonathan somehow survived the second round but at the close of the round, went to his corner obviously in trouble.
Joe Linenfelser began the third round coming right after the still hurt Jonathan Bruce. A left-right-left-right combination to the head of Bruce put him down again. He was up right at the count of ten and was allowed to continue by referee Randy Phillips. Seconds later a crushing right sent Bruce down, face first, onto the canvas. This time he was counted out. The official time of the KO was at 2:43 of the third round. Joe “Bazooka” Linenfelser improves to 5-0 (5 KOs) while Jonathan Bruce drops to 1-9 (1 KO).
On the under card, Rohan Nanton won a unanimous four-round decision over Tyrone Dowdy in a Middleweight bout. Nanton used a snappy jab and a powerful uppercut to control the bout. All three judges at ringside scored the fight 39-37 in favor of Nanton. TheDailySports.com also scored the fight for Nanton with the same score.
In Heavyweight action, Chuck Dillard and Leroy Hollis fought a very entertaining six round bout.
During the first two rounds, both fighters threw lots of punches. Dillard was working the body of Hollis by throwing hard shots in flurries, while Hollis was able to land effective headshots. By the time the bell sounded to end the third round, both combatants were breathing hard, but still had been standing toe to toe letting their hands go.
During the fourth round, Hollis purposely slammed Dillard’s head into the ring post, resulting in referee Randy Phillips to immediately take a point away. The sixth and final round had both fighters go all out from start to finish. All in all this was a very action packed fight, which drew much excitement from the crowd.
All three judges at ringside scored the fight 59-53 in favor of Chuck Dillard giving him the unanimous decision win. TheDailySports.com also scored the fight 59-53 in favor of Dillard. Chuck Dillard improves to 4-2 (1 KO) while Leroy Hollis drops to 3-11 (1 KO).

Nichols / Logan Rematch?
July 20, 2007
The Town Talk / Randy Benson
Nichols camp mulling over idea after loss.
KINDER -- Rematch. That's the word on the minds of everyone in the Heath Nichols camp.
Talk of a possible rematch begin circulating before Nichols had even left the ring following Saturday night's loss to Donnell Logan for the National Boxing Association's junior world lightweight title.
Logan, a 22-year-old from Covington, Tenn., won a unanimous decision over Nichols, the Alexandria boxer, Saturday night at the Coushatta Casino Resort. All three judges had Logan winning six of the eight rounds. All three scored the fight 78-72.
"The contracts (with Nichols and Logan) do call for a rematch," said Kerry Daigle of keeppunching.com, who promoted Saturday's fight along with David Rivas of Rivas Warriors Boxing.
"We definitely want to fight him again - as soon as possible," said Nichols' trainer, Alfredo Hernandez of Alexandria. "We'll fight him anywhere."
Logan has four months to defend his title and must defend it at least twice a year, said Walter "Butch" Flansburg, president of the National Boxing Association.

Jones is Back!
July 15, 2007
FightNews.Com / GulfCoastBoxing.Com
There was a reason Roy Jones, Jr., scheduled his IBC light heavyweight title bout with Anthony Hanshaw at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi: To proclaim that Jones and the Gulf Coast are both back. The fans showed it by numbering 9,000 strong, and Jones (51-4) showed it by scoring a 12-round decisive decision over the ready-to-upset Hanshaw (27-1-1) . . .

Jones, Hanshaw Postfight Presser!
July 15, 2007
FightNews.Com / GulfCoastBoxing.Com
Murad Muhammad started off the post fight press conference with a call of "He's back, and The Gulf is back!" Muhammad was pleased with the announced attendance of over 9,000 fans.
Anthony Hanshaw was short and sweet when he arrived at the podium. He praised Jones but had disagreed with the judging. "I thought I won the fight, I applied more pressure. Roy might have won 2 or 3 rounds. I eat, sleep and dream boxing. I will be back on top."
On the other hand, Roy Jones, Jr was not at a loss for words calling out Glen Johnson, Antonio Tarver, Felix "Tito" Trinidad and even Wladimir Klitschko. Jones also said he would be willing to meet Jermaine Taylor at 168lbs. "We can do this without HBO or Showtime, all I need are the fans." Jones commented on a prospective January date with Felix "Tito" Trinidad saying, " I can't wait that long for Tito."
He was very respectful of Anthony Hanshaw saying, "Anthony Hanshaw gave the world a fight, a fight that is good for boxing. Hanshaw came and and gave 130% and I appreciate that."
When asked what was next on his plate Jones answered, "I'm not going home and get out of shape. I would like to fight within the next month and a half. I would love to come back to the Gulf Coast. Y'all have been the best fans."
Jones rated his performance as "not too bad." He said he has never gone into a fight at 100%, and this fight was no different. He received 4 stitches after being elbowed during a pickup basketball game five days prior to the fight.
Jones ended his time at the podium with some good words about his opponent, "People always talk about the passing of the torch, Anthony is a guy I could pass the torch to when my time is done."

Roy Jones Jr. Continues to bar Hanshaw from hotel gym!
Bad blood between the Roy Jones Jr. and Anthony Hanshaw camps continued to boil Tuesday as the two prepare to fight in a scheduled 12-round bout for the IBC light heavyweight title Saturday night at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. For the second straight day, the Hanshaw team was physically barred from using the boxing ring and various bags, owned by Jones, at the host IP Casino-Resort-Spa. "I am getting sick of all this King Roy crap," the undefeated Hanshaw said. "My people are calling the hotel and the operators answer by saying, 'This is the home of Roy Jones.' And look at the posters and billboards and TV ads. They have my name so small you need a magnifying glass to see it. I will make Jones pay in that ring."
Meanwhile, Jones' longtime trainer "Coach" Alton Merkerson, commonly known as Merk, reacted to public comments made Monday by Hanshaw's trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. Merkerson was more than irritated to read that Mayweather referred to Jones as "a glass-chinned bum." Merkerson said, "I got a message for Mayweather. You tell him any comments between these two athletes is one thing. That is okay. But the only for sure bum around here is Mayweather. Make sure you tell him I said that. Let's keep the comments between the two athletes." As a precaution for rising tempers, promoter Murad Muhammad (once a Muhammad Ali bodyguard), has hired an expert security detail to keep things cool at all future pre-fight meetings between the fighters.
Furious Hanshaw Vows Knockout!

Roy Jones Jr. bars foe from hotel gym!
Tony Hanshaw is furious at Roy Jones Jr., his Saturday night PPV opponent, after Jones ordered hotel officials and security at the host IP Casino-Resort-Spa not to let Hanshaw and his training team use the ring and other boxing equipment which had been set up for both fighters. When Team Hanshaw went to train in the hotel-casino Monday, they were barred by an armed security guard who told them the premises were "off-limits" to anybody except Roy Jones Jr. The boxing ring and the various bags are all owned by Jones who trucked them over from his Florida home. Hanshaw had to take a 40-minute ride each way through heavy traffic to train at the Gulfport Boxing Gym.
" We fly in from Las Vegas and they tell us we are barred from the training center," the usually soft-spoken Hanshaw said. "What kind of nonsense is that? Is this the great, legendary Roy Jones who pretends to be a classy gentleman or is this Roy Jones the egomaniac who thinks he is running boxing?....He got knocked out by Tarver and Johnson and now he is going to get knocked out by me!" Hanshaw's trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. added, "[Jones] is glass-chinned bum who will get starched by my Tyger in six rounds. He's not even in Biloxi today, he's over in Pensacola playing basketball and he wouldn't let us use the gym? He thinks it is all about Roy but what it's really all about is Tony knocking this guy out. Good riddance to bad rubbish I say!"
Two Title Fights on Tap!
July 10, 2007
Eric Cormier (AmericanPress.com)
There's a new promoter, but the expectations are the same as Grand Casino Coushatta will host another boxing promotion that includes two championship fights sponsored by a lower tier fight organization next week.
Instead of using the past slogan of "Knockouts At Coushatta" the production has been coined "Shootout at Coushatta" and will take place July 14 at the casino resort's arena.
The card's most notable name, Bobby "The Bayou Bomber" Aucoin has been scratched for medical reasons, but fight promoter Kerry Daigle of Lafayette thinks the crowd will find the line-up of fighters who will show impressive.
The two title fights will be sanctioined by the National Boxing Association, which is based in Tampa, Fla.
Damian Fuller (28-4-1-13 KO) of Detroit will fight Carlos Gamez (17-5-9 KO) of Sonora, Mexico, for the NBA's lightweight championship.
Heath "Lil Rocky" Nichols (5-0, 4 KOs) of Alexandria will fight Corey Goodwin (5-3) of South Carolina for the NBA junior lightweight championship.
The latter fight was originally scheduled for 10 rounds, but has been shortened to eight rounds. That came at the suggestion of the Louisiana Boxing Commission since Nichols has never fought more than four rounds in his short career.
The belts for both title fights are currently vacant.
Daigle is also banking on the name recognition of one fighter who is trying to do something his acclaimed father never did.
Wilford Scypion Jr. of Port Arthur, Texas, is supposed will battle Emanuel Hutchinson in a four-round middleweight bout.
Scypion is the son of Wilford Scypion who gained a following in the 1970s and 1980s. One of senior Scypion's biggest fight moments was in the ring with Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
Hagler won the middleweight title fight.
"It's ironic that Scypion, Jr. fights in the same weight class as his father," Daigle said during Friday's press conference announcing the bouts. "He is working on winning a world title."
Scypion happens to have a cousin who's married to former McNeese State football standout Andre Perkins.
"You will see an exciting fight. I'm going to knock this guy out," Scypion said.
Even though he's only fought and won one professional fight, Scypion fought 32 amateur fights, winning 28 of those by knockout.
"He can punch and has a great style," Daigle said.
Another fighter that the promotion is throwing weight behind is Michael El Tortito De Fierro" Martinez of Snyder, Texas.
"The Iron Bull" as Martinez is known, is also a middleweight with a 3-2 record. He is scheduled to fight journeyman Benji Singleton in a six-round match.
"Hailing from the Marines with four All Marine championships and a national amateur title, Martinez is exactly like his ring name," Daigle said. "To watch Martinez fight you would think he is ready for a championship fight right now with only five fights under his belt."
Martinez will get in the ring with a fighter with far more experience. Singleton has more than 130 fights under his belt.
All of the fighters will be in Kinder next Friday.
"Shoot Out At Coushatta!"
July 2, 2007
In a night that is being billed as “Young Guns”, professional boxers from around the US will gather at the Coushatta Casino and Resorts in Kinder, Louisiana on July 14, 2007 as Rivas’s Warriors Boxing presents “Shoot Out at Coushatta”.
The main event will feature veteran lightweight Damian Fuller (28-4-1) of Detriot, Michigian taking on tough Mexican Carlos “Macorina” Gamez (17-5) of Huatabampo, Mexico in a 12 round bout for the vacant NBA Lightweight Title. This will be Gamez’s first bout outside of Mexico.
In other end of the “Double Main Event” local slugger Heath Nichols (5-0, 4KO’s) will put his undefeated record in the line against North Carolina native JoVann Jones (9-4). This bout will also be for an NBA title. These two boxers were rumored to have been former sparring partners. The bout will be 10 rounds for the vacant NBA Junior Lightweight Title. “The Bayou Bomber” Bobby Aucoin was originally scheduled to fight in this spot, but a hand injury prevented this from happening.
Undercard action will see welterweight Daniel Garcia (8-3-1), middleweights Mike Martinez (3-2) and Wilford Scypion (1-0) all in separate 4 round bouts.

Henry Decisions Pedro!
June 4, 2007
Fightnews.com / Byron Spurlock
NABF light heavyweight champion Chris Henry (20-0, 16 KOs) stepped up two weight divisions to claim the IBA Intercontinental heavyweight title via ten round decision over Rafael Pedro (20-6-1, 14 KOs) to Saturday night at the L'Auberge du Lac Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The 6', 190lb Henry gave away six inches and 58 pounds to the hulking 6'6, 256lb Pedro in a bout that featured five point deductions.
Henry began the fight using every advantage that he had, speed and power. But little proved to be a deterrent for the giant Pedro, who methodically closed the gap and used his jab to score points.
The much smaller Henry had the right approach for this type of fight, landing quick shots by jumping in and out. The slower Pedro found himself the recipient of quick left hooks to the head from time to time.
With the action going back and forth for the first few rounds, the fight appeared to be there for the taking for whoever wanted to step it up. The fifth and sixth rounds proved costly for Henry as he was deducted a point in both rounds for hitting on the break. Pedro's corner constantly complained about Henry taking cheap shots at Pedro during breaks.
Round nine proved to be a costly one for Pedro as he appeared to be completely gassed and used excessive holding to last the round, receiving two separate point deductions along the way.
As the back and forth action continued, so did the late punches by Henry and the excessive holding by Pedro. Pedro received another point deduction in the tenth round for once again, excessive holding.
"I think I started this fight looking for the knockout a little too early," said Henry afterward. "He started out good, and he made things hard towards the beginning of the fight. The size difference was huge because he outweighed me by almost 60 lbs, so that's why I had to use my speed and quickness. He would use his size to his advantage in the fight and he would lean on me, and after a while that begins to take a toll on your body. I don't plan on staying in the heavyweight division. I plan on going back down to the light heavyweight division. Maybe later in my career I may come back up here but as for right now, I plan to go back down and win some more titles."
Martin defeats Yuratovac!
Legendary female fighter Christy Martin (47-5) showed she still has something left as she pounded out a unanimous decision against Amy Yuratovac who was previously undefeated, but now stands (5-1). Martin floored her opponent in the first round and went on a hard fought six round unanimous decision 60-53, 60-53, 60-53.
"I'm not done fighting just yet, I know that I lost my last two fights, but I have a win now," said Martin. "This is my first fight this year, but I'm fighting again real soon, my plan is to fight for a title once again. I still consider myself one of the better woman fighters. I may not be the best in the sport now, but definitely, one of the better in my division."
Undercard action:
Heavyweight Johnny White (15-0, 14 KOs) TKO'd Greg McWhirter (2-9) in round two.
Featherweight Jose Diaz (14-0) stopped Terrance Roy (9-22) in round three.
Welterweight Ed Crosby (4-0) outpointed Jevon Boisseau (1-2) by unanimous decision over four (39-37, 39-37, 40-36)
Super Middleweight Joseph Smith (3-2) knocked out Franco Dunmoodie (1-1) in round one.

May 30, 2007
L’Auberge du Lac casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana and Bayou Promotions have come together for the first ever boxing event at the L’Auberge du Lac casino. “Boxing at L’Auberge” takes place this night Saturday, June 2, 2007.
In one of the most talked about Louisiana main events in recent memory, 6’7 240lb Cuban born Rafael Pedro (20-5-1) (Now of Golden Meadow, LA) is set to clash with Houston, Texas’ (normally light heavyweight) Chris “Hard Hitting” Henry (19-0). Henry is the owner of the WBC US and the NABF light heavyweight title. He is also rated number 6 by the WBC. Chris will come into this bout giving up more than 6 inches in height and over 50lbs in weight. This will be a 10 round bout and will be contested for the IBA Intercontinental heavyweight title.
In a television interview yesterday both men predicted wins, Pedro didn’t give an exact prediction but was confident he would be the victor. Henry however predicted an early knockout.
Topping the stellar undercard is the pioneer of female boxing Christy Martin (46-5-2). She is set to take on undefeated Amy Yuratovac (5-0, 5KO’s) in a 154lb bout. Both women are rated in the top 10 by the WBC.
Undefeated featherweight prospect Jose “Pitbull” Diaz (13-0) of Houston, Texas faces off against 30-fight veteran Terrance Roy of Covington, Tennessee.
Fort Worth, Texas’ Franco Dunmoodie (1-0) will look to stay unbeaten as he takes on Joseph Smith (1-2-1) of Mobile, Alabama in a 4 round light heavyweight bout.
Hometown favorite and undefeated welterweight Ed Crosby (3-0) is slated to face tough Jevon Boisseau (1-1) of New Orleans, Louisiana in a 4 round bout.
Rounding out the card is the most exciting heavyweight prospect currently in Louisiana, “Lethal” Johnnie White (14-0, 13KO’s). The hometown favorite White is scheduled to face Willie Walker (6-4) of Athens, Georgia. The bout is scheduled for 6 rounds.
Tickets are on sale now at L'Auberge Business Center from 9:00am to 6:00pm or by calling 1-337-395-7569 or online at www.ldlcasino.com. Tickets are $75.00 ringside and $50.00 stadium seating ($10 discount to L' Club members). Get your tickets early, because this event will sell out and sell out early.
Verdin vs Johnson Again!
May 28, 2007
Fight to the Finish Productions
Golden Meadow, Louisiana – Fight to the Finish Productions is back in 2007 with their fourth installment of "Stomp in the Swamp" fight series. "Stomp in the Swamp IV" will take place June 9, 2007 at the Youth Center in Cut Off, Louisiana.
The main event will feature Louisiana state light heavyweight champion and Dulac, Louisiana's own "Smilin'" Martin Verdin (14-8-1). Verdin is a crowd favorite and has been featured numerous times by Fight to the Finish Productions, but this will be his first main event. In his last outing he lost a very close decision in a bout aired live on national television on ESPN 2's Friday Night Fights program.
The main event is scheduled for 10 rounds and will be for the vacant NABC Gulf States Title. Verdin will face "Gentleman" James Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana. This will be the second time these two fighters do battle. In their first bout Verdin beat Johnson by split decision in a six round bout.
Johnson is confident coming into this bout. In his last bout he held former IBF champion William Guthrie to a controversial draw. Johnson knocked down Guthrie in the bout. When James was asked about coming back down to Cut Off to fight Verdin he had this to say: "I've been waiting for this fight for two years. Last time I thought I won a close decision. I tried to box last time. This time I am going to bring the fight to Martin. This is going to be an old school brawl. I am going for the knockout".
Verdin was originally scheduled to face former title challenger Will McIntyre in a bout for the Louisiana state title, but Will withdrew from the bout because of a death in his family. Fight to the Finish would like to send our prayers out to Will and his family.
"Southern Pride" Gary Bergeron (4-1) of New Orleans, Louisiana, will be featured in a 6 round super lightweight bout. The former Army soldier has a huge fan following, and after you see him perform on June 9th you will see why.
Undefeated cruiserweights collide as Brent "The Terminator" Carline (2-0) of Houma, Louisiana, is set to face Jimmy "Mad Bomber" Owensby (3-0) originally of Cut Off, Louisiana, now fighting out of South Carolina.
In a 6 round super heavyweight rematch Scott "White Bean" Rossum (11-2) will take on "Big" John Dixon of Gulfport, Mississippi. Dixon edged out Rossum in December of 05'
Also featured on the card will be Grand Bois, Louisiana's Justin "Ironman" Verdin (2-0), Clinton, Louisiana's Tafari "Two Piece" Beard (3-1) , WBC 3rd ranked female heavyweight in the world Monica McGowan (12-3). Also the return of Baton Rouge welterweight John Revish (2-1-1).
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling USA Labor 985.475.4758, Block Law Firm at 985.446.0418 or Dustan Adams at 985.677.5833. Ringside tables are available but they are selling quickly. General admission tickets are $20 .00 in advance and $25.00 if purchased the day of the event.
Jones, Jr in Biloxi!
May 23, 2007
Press Release
Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. (50-4, 38 KOs) will get into the International
Boxing Hall Of Fame by acclamation. But the greatest super middleweight
fighter of all time is not ready to be enshrined just yet. Jones is fighting
onward and no boxer is admitted into the hallowed halls in Canastota, N.Y.,
until he has been retired for five years.
"The Hall Of Fame...well, that will be nice. But I am not ready for that and
I am not ready for any rocking chair, either," Jones said. "I am ready,
willing and able to prove that I still have what it takes to be a world
champion once more. That is why I am fighting a young, tough strong,
undefeated guy like Anthony Hanshaw on Saturday, July 14 on PPV TV.
"There is plenty of boxing life left in me yet," Jones said. "I guess Joe
Calzaghe knows that because he does not want any part of me. I am taking
this fight to measure myself. No one can hold me to a greater standard than
I hold myself. I will use Hanshaw as my measuring stick. I coming not only
to win but to win big and to shine from start to finish. Age is just a
number, I promise you, because you will see more than flashes of the Roy
Jones Jr. that made all that boxing history."
Jones-Hanshaw is promoted by Murad Productions and Square Ring in
association with IP Casino-Resort Spa. The name of the event is "He's Baack!
Witness The Return Of A King." The scheduled 12-round bout, to be fought at
the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds, will be beamed across the country
and around the world direct from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and
Convention Center in Biloxi.
"You name the honor or accolade and Roy Jones Jr. has won it," Murad
Muhammad said. "I call him the Muhammad Ali of his generation and, at age
38, he is far from finished making ring history. This is a super talent who
has won world titles at 160 pounds, dominated at 168 pounds, won at 175
pounds and even won the WBA heavyweight title when he defeated John Ruiz.
Roy Jones Jr. takes the "i" and the "m" out of the word impossible and
creates wonders."
Jones-Hanshaw, which will include a highly-competitive undercard, will mark
the 15th time that promoter Muhammad and Jones have worked together.
"It is humbling to work with a talent as awesome as Roy Jones Jr.," Muhammad
said. "And he is also a man of character. He's not coming back against any
easy opponent, any cream puff, but against Hanshaw, age 29 and with a
21-0-1, 14 KOs record. Roy Jones Jr. doesn't just talk the talk, he walks
the walk."
Hanshaw and his team have great respect for Jones but Hanshaw trainer John
Russell sees an upset occurring on July 14 and this is a boxing man who
knows from upsets. Russell trained a underdog heavyweight named James
"Buster" Douglas when Douglas shocked the world by knocking out the
seemingly unbeatable Mike Tyson in Tokyo.
"Anthony Hanshaw is a tough kid and has genuine talent," Russell said. "It's
a privilege for Anthony to match his skills with a Hall Of Famer like Roy
but Anthony is in awe of Roy. Anthony is coming to defeat Roy Jones Jr. not
to merely share the ring. Anthony wants to be able to tell his kids and his
grand kids not that 'I fought Roy Jones' but to be able to say 'I beat the
great Roy Jones.'"
Hanshaw is promoted by Gary Shaw of Gary Shaw Productions.
The price for the PPV telecast is $29.95, as Muhammad calls it "an
affordable pleasure." The show will be distributed by In Demand. Ticket
prices will range from 500 to $300, $100, $75 and $30. Tickets will go on
sale through Ticketmaster and other outlets on June 1.
Mesi Out, Henry In!
May 19, 2007
Bayou Promotions
Joe Mesi suffered a back injury, and therefore will be unable to fight Rafael Pedro, at L’Auberge du Lac Hotel and Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana for a fight that was scheduled to take place on June 2, 2007. Promoter Jimbo Stevenson has secured the current NABF champion Chris Henry (19-0, 16KO’s) to replace Mesi. Henry is the sixth ranked light heavyweight according to the WBC. Chris, who is a stable mate of Mesi’s and was helping Joe prepare for the fight and jumped at the chance to step in for him. Chris said all great light heavyweights, such as Michael Spinks, Roy Jones Jr., Bob Foster, Bill Conn, Archie Moore and Evander Holyfield, moved up a weight class to challenge heavyweights. Spinks, Holyfield and Jones all won heavyweight titles.
Chris is looking to break onto the world stage, and figures the fastest way to do so is to knockdown a giant. Rafael Pedro stands 6’7 and said Chris would not get his big break from beating him and that he is going to send him back down to the light heavyweight division to start over.
Jimbo Stevenson of Bayou Promotions was disappointed in losing the Pedro-Mesi fight, because of the considerable interest it was raising from both the boxing press and fans. However, he is excited about this match and said it has it’s share of intrigue also. “I think that the fight fins and the press will want to see if Chris Hendry can pull this off, this is a big man that he is climbing into the ring with. One punch from a full fledged heavyweight can turn a fight around, especially with a smaller guy on the other end of it.” You have to give Chris credit for stepping in for his stable mate when he has so much at stake. It will be “David verses Goliath”.
The pioneer of female boxing Christy Martin, of Orlando, FL,(46-5-2) is set to battle Amy “Scrap Iron” Yuratovac (5-0, 5KO’s), of Hammond, Indiana. Christy is ranked third and Yuratovac is ranked tenth in the welterweight division by the WBC.
The undercard will feature a pair of undefeated prospects including featherweight Jose “Pitbull” Diaz (13-0) of Houston, Texas. Diaz is the younger brother of WBO and WBA champion Juan “The Baby Bull” Diaz. ”Lethal” Johnnie White (15-0, 14KO’s) of Lakes Charles, Louisiana, will be featured in a six round heavyweight fight. An addition four round bout will be added.
Tickets are on sale now at L’Auberge Business Center from 9:00 AM to 6:00 pm or by calling 1-337-395-7596 or online at www.ldlcasion.com. Tickets are $75 ringside and $50.00 stadium seating, with a $10.00 discount to L’Club members. The weigh-in will be June 1st, at 1:00 PM at the Jack Daniels Bar and Grill in the hotel.
Duddy Remains Unbeaten!
May 18, 2007
Sports Wire
NEW YORK --Unbeaten middleweight John Duddy recovered from a cut over his right eye early in the fight to earn a unanimous 10-round decision over Dupre Strickland at the Beacon Theater on Friday night.
Dudley, who weighed 161 1/2 pounds, was far from sharp in his extending his winning streak to 20 fights. Strickland, 160 1/4, dropped to 18-2-1.
Strickland, of Slidell, La., used a left hook to open the cut over Duddy's eye in the second round. Duddy's corner was able to stop the bleeding but Strickland was able to open it again in the next round. Duddy's corner stopped the bleeding a second time and it was never a factor again in the fight.
This was Duddy's last fight in the United States before he departs for his native Ireland where he has already signed for two bouts.
"It's hard to fight a guy who doesn't want to fight," said Duddy, who currently lives in Middle Village, N.Y. "I hit him good in the first round and I used combinations to keep him on the run. There was no doubt in my mind I won the fight."
Judge Luis Rivera scored the fight 100-90, while judges Bob Gilson and Matt Ruggero had it 100-89.

John Duddy Faces Tough Challenges This Friday in New York
Strickland Steps Up!
May 17, 2007
Jerry Glick (http://www.eurosport.com)
New York: Ireland’s John Duddy, sporting a new crew cut hair style, was at Jack Dempsey’s Pub in New York with his opponent, Dupre “Total Package” Strickland, for the final press conference for Friday night’s “Tomorrow’s Champions” show at the Beacon Theater in Manhattan, USA.
Promoted by Irish Ropes, it will be Duddy’s last New York appearance in a while because he will fight in Ireland next time out.
Duddy, holder of the IBA world and WBC Continental Americas middleweight championships, currently has a 19-0 (15) log, and his opponent has an impressive 18-1-1 (7) record. They will be fighting in the ten round main event.
Also appearing will be undefeated prospects, Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, 11-0 (10), Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak, 14-0 (9), 2004 Irish National Senior amateur champion Henry Coyle, 1-0 (1), and 3-time U.S. National Champion Eileen Olszewski, 2-0 (0).
Duddy has done his homework. He has watched tapes of Strickland.
“He’s very cagey, but he throws lots of punches,” said Duddy. “I don’t know but we think he’s a righty turned. The way he comes on he squares up a lot so we’ll be doing a lot of body work and head movement and hopefully we can break him down.”
Duddy, from Derry, Ireland, and now residing in Queens, New York, understands that he is the step-up opponent for Strickland, but Duddy does not think that will change the way he will approach this fight.
“No, I’m looking at him as though he were Yory Boy or Bonsante or any body else,” explained Duddy. “He’s another hurdle for me.”
Strickland recognizes Duddy as a step up, “It’s a challenge. It’s something that I’ve been waiting for a long time,” said the Slidell, Louisiana resident. “It’s my time to prevail.”

Mesi, Martin headline June 2!
April 25, 2007
Fightnews.com
L'Auberge du Lac Hotel and Casino and Bayou Promotions, LLC are excited to announce "Boxing at L'Auberge" on June 2, 2007 at 7:30pm, which will be the first boxing event at Louisiana's premier gaming facility located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. L'Auberge is located approximately two hours east of Houston, Texas.
Jimbo Stevenson of Bayou Promotions said that L'Auberge is keeping its tradition of top flight entertainment and has pulled out all the stops to bring in a great show. "Baby" Joe Mesi (35-0, 28KO's) of Buffalo, New York will be in the main event against "Cajun Cuban Connection" Rafael Pedro (20-5-1, 14KO's) originally from Havana, Cuba now fighting out of Golden Meadow, Louisiana in a WBC United States heavyweight title fight. Mesi was formally the number one contender in the world until an injury sidelined his career. He is on a mission to regain that position and become world champion. Joe is currently ranked 29 in the world by the WBC. However, the 6'5 240lb Pedro, who is now trained by former two time world champion and Olympic gold medalist Kennedy McKinney, is looking to block Joe's path back into the top ten.
The co-main event features the pioneer of women's boxing and future hall of famer, Christy Martin, (46-5-2, 31KO's) of Orlando, Florida against Amy "Scrap Iron" Yuratovac (5-0, 5KO's) of Hammond, Indiana. Christy, who is known as the "Coal Miner's Daughter" and originally hailed from Bluefield, West Virginia is a former world champion who has fought on HBO and is the only female boxer to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. Christy is ranked number three in the world in the welterweight division and Yuratovac is ranked tenth by the WBC. This fight would be a main event at most venues and is worthy of a world title sanction.
The undercard will showcase some up and coming boxers from Houston and southwest Louisiana, including Lake Charles heavyweight Johnnie White (14-0, 13KO's).
Tickets are on sale now at L'Auberge Business Center from 9:00am to 6:00pm or by calling 1-337-395-7569 or online at www.ldlcasino.com. Judahs return Bitter Sweet!
April 16, 2007
Memphisboxing.com
Everything that could have happened Friday night at the highly anticipated return of Zab Judah at the Fitz did happen, with the exception of a satisfying outcome to Judah’s fight.
After being advertised as an outdoor bout scheduled to take place on the banks of the Mississippi River, the fight was moved indoors two hours before the scheduled start time due to rain, wind and lightning. A hard working crew not only set up the ring, but ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” broadcast equipment as well. Thanks to their efforts, the fight started promptly at 8:00.
The partisan crowd of 1,300, including Judah fans from New York mixed in with the Mississippi fight fans and Judah was raring to go from the moment he stepped out of the dressing room to when his lumbering 20-person strong entourage (which ran the gamut from suspended Tennessee Titans’ cornerback, Pacman Jones to Judah’s two daughters) entered the ring. Unfortunately it took more time to get the entourage in and out of the ring than it did for Judah to actually fight.

Prize Fight Boxing
TUNICA, MS – Prize Fight Boxing and Super Promotions present “Take It Outside” on April 13th, 2007 at the Fitz Casino and Hotel in Tunica, Mississippi. The fight card will be televised live on ESPN2 with Zab Judah (34-4, 25 KO’s) versus Ruben Galvan (27-11-2, 10 KO’s) in the 10-round main event. The outside setting will offer a scenic view of the mighty Mississippi River as the ring will be set up a mere 100 feet from the river banks. The April 13th bout is a must win bout for Judah 34-4 (25 KO’s) as he must get past the gritty Galvan in order to battle undefeated WBA World Champion Miguel Cotto 29-0 (24 KO’s) on June 9th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Terms for the Cotto versus Judah showdown have already been agreed upon but the fight will only take place if Judah defeats Galvan on April 13th. Judah’s co-promoter Brian Young is excited about what the future holds for him, “Zab has the opportunity to dominate the welterweight division again. Consequently, it all starts April 13th against Ruben Galvan. Zab must handle his business against Galvan and then prepare for his career defining fight against Cotto June 9th.” Young and Judah both wanted the fight on April 13th to be moved outside to accommodate the heavily anticipated fight crowd. Likewise, the environment will be much similar to years past in Las Vegas when most fights were held outside, which will make for an electrifying night.
Opening the ESPN broadcast on April 13th will be undefeated Flyweight prospect Rayonta Whitfield (16-0, 8 KO’s) as he battles Jonathan Perez (12-1, 9 KO’s) for the NABO Flyweight Title. The winner of this 12 round bout is sure to garner a top 10 world ranking from the WBO. Whitfield has fought many times in the Tunica and Memphis area, most recently on January 20, 2007 as he pounded out a workmanlike victory over Alejandro Moreno at the Fitz Casino. Featured on the undercard will be a battle of undefeated fighters as Joell Godfrey (6-0, 4 KO’s) from East St. Louis, Illinois squares off against DeLeon Tinsley (7-0, 5 KO’s) from Orlando, Florida in a 6 round heavyweight bout. In addition, former world title challenger Antonio Davis (22-3, 11 KO’s) will also be in action along with Southaven, Mississippi’s Jason Ross as he slugs it out with Bo Skipper (11-3-2, 7 KO’s) in a 4 round light heavyweight contest. Gates will open for the 5 bout card at 7:00 PM and the first bout will begin at 8:00 PM. VIP ringside seats are $75 and general admission seating is $35. Tickets will go on sale Friday, March 9th and can be purchased at the Fitz Casino Gift Shop or by calling the Fitz at (800) 766-5825 x8291 or by calling the Prize Fight Boxing offices at (662) 349-6263.

Lyons’ Out With Injury!
Gulfcoastboxing.com Exclusive
February 5, 2007
Gulfport, Mississippi heavyweight Aaron Lyons (5-0) was scheduled to travel to the historic Blue Horizon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this Friday night to rematch Joey “Minnesota Ice” Abell (11-1), but a broken arm will prevent him from doing so. Late last year Lyons was brought up to Philly to taken on the then unbeaten knockout artist Abell. According to various reports Lyons caught Abell with a heavy left hook early in the opening round that stunned Abell, and left him lying on the ropes. Lyons then rushed Abell and landed a flurry prompting a referee stoppage just 1:17 into the bout.
Lyons’ trainer/manager Warren Miguez stated that “Aaron will be out 4-6 weeks, and we are going to do the bout again sometime in April.”
Hendrix Rocks in Gainesville!
February 5, 2007
Fightnews.com / Jose E. Santiago
Looking to step up and face tougher competition, Tyrese Hendrix took on Jason Doucet in an entertaining lightweight bout.
In the first round, Hendrix came out with a lightning fast right hand jab that appeared to surprise Doucet. About a minute into the round, Hendrix pinned Doucet in the neutral corner and unleashed a three-punch combination. Doucet was able to fend him off by landing a counter right, but the damage had been done, as he was shaken by the power and speed of Hendrix.
In the second, Hendrix made sure he let Doucet know who was in charge in this fight. He pressed the action and flurried on many occasions. At about the two minute mark, Hendrix wobbled Doucet with a straight left and ended the round with a whirlwind of punches that left Doucet visibly hurt.
In the third round, things got a little interesting. Within the first 20 seconds of the round, Hendrix appeared to have landed a nice body shot right on the belt line, Doucet immediately went down, but referee Dennis Nelson ruled it a low blow.
Doucet was allowed time to recover and continued to fight. About 30 seconds later, both fighters began to fight on the inside. Once again, Hendrix landed a few hard body shots that appeared to be above the belt, but Nelson stepped in and took a point away from Hendrix for low blows.
Much to his credit the young Hendrix did not seem at all frazzled and continued in his domination of Doucet.
In the fourth and fifth rounds, Hendrix began to take complete control of the fight as the hometown crowd chanted “HEAD HONCHO!!!”. Although Doucet was able to catch Hendrix with a few nice shots, this was Hendrix’s hometown party. He hurt Doucet in the closing seconds of the fifth. Doucet wobbled to his corner at the sound of the bell just as Nelson waived the fight off.
Green Decisions Johnson!
January 26, 2007
Charlie "The News Guy"
Josh Green and James Johnson gave the Plex the best match of the night. This fight went the distance. Excitement filled the boxing arena as hard blows went back and fourth the entire fight between the two gladiators. Green won the crowd over, as well as the judges. Josh won a unanimous decision when the sixth and final round came to an end.
Jim Kelley stated, "Josh has true potential! These past two weeks have been rough on him. He has proven that he has what every fighter need to have in order to win great fights and that is heart. He gave the audience exactly what they were looking for and that is the fight of the year! I'm truly proud of him."
Richards TKO's Palms!
January 25, 2007
Prize Fight Boxing
Tunica, MS – An exciting night of boxing in front of a sold out standing room only crowd at the Fitz was capped by Adam “Swamp Donkey” Richard’s 6th round stoppage of Willie Palms. Richards battered Palms throughout the night with a steady jab and devastating body work that eventually caused Palm’s corner to throw in the towel in the 6th and final round. Consequently, Richards improved his record to 16-1 (12 KO’s).
The undercard was packed full of exciting action as well. Arguably, the fight of the night was when heavyweight Joell Godfrey brought the crowd to it’s feet with his unanimous decision victory over West Taylor. Godfrey dropped Taylor twice in round three with devastating combinations and blurring hand speed. However, Taylor was able to withstand a barrage of Godfrey punches throughout the night and stayed on his feet to await the final decision from the judges at ringside. With the unanimous decision, Godfrey improves his undefeated record to 5-0 (4 KO’s).
Also, Memphis teenage phenom Ira Terry defeated Marty Robbins in a 6 round super featherweight bout that saw plenty of leather exchanged between the two boxers. Terry punched aggressively to the body throughout the fight trying to stop Robbins with every punch. In the 6th and final round Robbins made a final attempt to win the bout and unleashed a hook that temporarily stunned Terry when the final bell sounded. Fortunately, Terry hung on to win the unanimous decision and improved to 13-0 (9 KO’s).
Hot bantamweight prospect Rayonta Whitfield dominated Alejandro Moreno in route to a 6 round unanimous decision. The highly skilled Whitfield peppered Moreno with a steady jab and crisp combinations. The decision improved Whitfield’s unblemished record to 16-0 (8 KO’s). Whitfield will be fighting for the NABO Flyweight Title on the undercard of Zab Judah April 27th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, MS.
The opening bout of the evening saw Terrance Roy defeat Tad Waltman by unanimous decision. The sold out crowd was on their feet most of the night as the action was intense from the time the doors opened until the end of the final bout. The next edition of “Fights At The Fitz” is slated for February 24th. Tickets can be purchased at the Fitz Gift Shop or by calling The Fitz at (662) 363-5825.
