Bayou Promotions presents
Knockouts at Coushatta IV

Bayou Promotions presented another stellar showing of Lousiana boxing, this time at the Grand Casino Coushatta in Kinder, LA. The 5,000 fans in attendance witnessed up and coming fighters along with former and current wold champions. It was also reported that over 200 people were turned away at the door.

Camacho Jr. and Logan Fight to a Draw

Marteze “Too Sweet” Logan (13-9-1) of Covington, TN didn’t receive the memo that he was supposed to be an easy opponent for the heavily favored and adored Hector Camacho Jr. (37-1-1). Logan controlled the pace of the fight. In the first two rounds, Logan had to contend with Camacho’s dirty tactics, which included hitting on the break, and hitting Logan behind the head. Camacho looked sluggish in the middle rounds, which allowed the speed of Logan to land the better shots, and use his superior speed to win the rounds. Camacho had his best round in round 10, but it was not enough to win over the crowd or the judges. Judge Kenny Saintes scored the bout 96-94 for Camacho. Judges Russell Naquin and Kenny Licata scored the bout 95-95, much to the dismay of the sold old crowd, who thought that Logan should have got the nod.

Mahfood Wins IBA Title

Valerie “The Wolfe” Mahfood (18-6) scored a hard fought 10-round unanimous decision over Carlette “The Truth” Ewell (6-3). Mahfood, the much more experienced of the two, controlled the first 4 rounds of the fight with a strong jab followed by left hooks, she also scored a knockdown in round 2. In the corner after round 3, Mahfood looked winded, but when it came to the fight she never looked sluggish. Ewell had her best round in round 7 and 8, she showed some good body work and a nice defense, but just could not overcome the constant work by Mahfood. The scorecards read 97-93, 97-93, 97-93. With the win Mahfood captures the IBA continental light heavyweight title, to go along with her Texas state light heavyweight title.

Aucoin Squeaks by Gates

Local lightweight favorite Bobby “Bayou Bomber” Aucoin (13-0) had a stern test in Mobile, AL’s Billy Gates (9-7). The Kinder, LA crowd was definatly pro-Aucoin, but that did not seem to bother Gates, who came out fast and landed some solid right hooks. The hit and hold style of Gates seem to confuse Aucoin in round 1. As the fight progressed Aucoin figured out Gates and was able to start landing his own solid shots. Both fighters came forward, but Aucoin landed the better shots down the stretch. Aucoin is definately the bayou’s version of a blood and guts warrior. He showed that in the 6th and final round, as he came out ready to end the fight, but Gates would have none of that and matched everything Aucoin threw. Neither fighter was down in the fight, but both were hurt at various points throughout the fight. When it was all said and done, all three judges scorecards read 58-56, the same as gulfcoastboxing.com

A Heavyweight Double DQ

Welsh, LA heavyweight Clifton Rubin (8-2) entered the ring to the yells and screams of his big following, but left to the sounds of heavy boos. Rubin faced Wade “Rock” Lewis (12-11) in what was supposed to be a battle of knockout artist, (Lewis has 11 and Rubin 8) turned out to be a bore. Rubin came out as the aggressor, but that quickly changed when he felt Lewis’s power. Lewis landed a straight right hand that nearly put Rubin down in round 1. In round 2 Lewis felt Rubin’s power, and elected to back off of his powerful assault. Towards the middle of round 2, both fighters elected to “feel each other out.’ In round 3 it was more of the same “feeling out” process. Both fighters were told to fight, at the end of the round referee Russell Naquin warned both corners that they needed to fight or risk being disqualified. In round 4, it was more dancing, and 2:17 into the round referee Russell Naquin stopped and bout and called it a double disqualification. The Louisiana boxing commission stated that both fighters will receive losses on their records.

Chamblin Stops Kendrick

In what looked like a mismatch on paper, turned into a big mismatch in the ring. Local favorite Dana “The Machine” Kendrick (7-2) came into the ring a heavy favorite against “The Fighting Marine” Kahsa Chamblin (2-0), but in the ring it was a different story. Chamblin came out firing and landed some heavy blows. She trapped Kendrick into the corner of the ring about :45 seconds into the fight, and threw everything but the kitchen sink at Kendrick. Kendrick did nothing, and she turned away prompting referee Bruce McDaniel to call off the fight 1:01 into round 1. Chamblin from Lafayette, LA looks like a prospect to keep your eye on.

Cocky Scott Wins Majority Decision

In the opening bout of the night, middleweight Travis Scott (1-0) from Baton Rouge, LA made his pro debut. He faced tough Gerado Prieto (1-2). In the first two rounds, Scott did his best Roy Jones impression and beat Prieto with pure speed and also scored with some big counter shots. In the 3rd Scott started to tire. Combine fatigue with the fact that Scott never had his hands up, Prieto started to land some big power shots. Round 4 was a brawl, both fighters landed some heavy shots, Prieto pressured and landed; Scott countered and landed. At the end of the fight, the scorecards read: 39-37, 39-37, 38-38.
