Broussard Claims 154lb Title!
“Bad” Chad Broussard (52-4) wasted no time Saturday night as he came out with his guns blazing, the victim this time, Brad Thompson (14-8). This bout was the main event for Jimbo Stevenson’s Bayou Promotions’ “Rumble on the River”, which took place in front of a packed house at the Argosy Casino in Baton Rouge, LA.
Broussard dropped Thompson just before the bell sounded to end round 1. In round 2 it was the same, as Broussard struck with an uppercut that put Thompson down and out. With the win Broussard captured the Louisiana state 154lb title.
Green Quits on Stool!
In the co-feature, “Big G” Gabe Brown (17-5-1) scored a 6th round TKO over Matt Green (13-16). The action in this bout came in round 3, as Green landed a vicious uppercut that wobbled the 355lb Brown. Green went on the attack, but it was too late in the round. In rounds 4, 5 and 6 Brown came back and worked Green’s body, and that was the key, as Green declined to come out for round 7.
Ramsey Edges Swindell!
In female action, Laura “Lady Ram” Ramsey (4-0) stayed undefeated as she won a 4 round split decision over Houston native Yolanda “Stone Hands” Swindell (3-3-1). These girls went toe-to-toe from the opening bell to the end of the bout. Judge Russell Naquin saw the bout 39-37 for Swindell, but he was overturned by judges Kenny Licata and Bruce McDaniel who saw the bout 39-37, 40-36, both for Ramsey.
Warrior Pounds Verdin!
Light middleweight Ronnie Warrior (11-1-1) of Tulsa, OK made his trip to Louisiana worth while as he scored a 6 round decision over Houma, LA native Steve ‘Road Warrior” Verdin. Warrior basically did what he wanted to do against Verdin. Verdin showed heart as usual, as he stalked Warrior the whole fight. When it was all said and done, Warrior had a 60-54 advantage on the scorecards.
Ricca Wins Return Bout!
The fight of the night award goes to cruiserweights Mike “Rock” Ricca (9-1, who was returning off of a one year layoff.) and Eduardo DeJulian (1-6). Both guys went at it in the first 4 rounds, and it looked to be even, but in round 5 Ricca started using his jab, and worked off of that to drop DeJulian in the round. It was the begining of the end for DeJulian in round 5, he was dropped and was then on the verge of being dropped again, but he spitting out his mouth piece saved him, but in round 6 it hurt him as he had a point taken away. The scorecards had Ricca ahead, but did not indicate how close the bout was. The final cards looked like this: 60-53, 59-54, 59-54. Gulfcoastboxing.com had it 57-54 also for Ricca.
Saavedra Loses Return Bout!
St. Bernard, LA’s Kenny “The Assisian” Seevedra (1-1) retruned to the ring for the first time in almost five years. His opponent DeMarcus “Main Event” Clark (1-0) came to brawl, and that is exactly what the fight turned out to be. Clark pressured Seevedra from the get go. Clark finally landed his money punch in round 3, it put Seevedra down two time, after the second time Seevedra’s corner threw in the towel.
As usual, Gulfcoastboxing.com would like to thank Jimbo Stevenson for a great night of boxing.
