Marks Wins UBO Title!

Golden Meadow, LA super middleweight Zane “The Train” Marks (8-2) had to go the decision route Saturday night at the Youth Center in Cut Off, LA. Marks scored a 6 round unanimous decision over tough veteran Kirk Douglas (10-10) of Ceder Hill, MO. With the win Marks captured the U.B.O All-American super middleweight title.

Marks came out fast as usual, and that sent Douglas to into survival mode. Marks then put on a boxing clinic, working off the jab and scoring with straight left hands to the body of the durable Douglas. Scores were 60-54 across the board.

Maler Pounds Pedro!

In the co-main event heavyweights Hearn Marler (9-2) and Rafael Pedro (19-5-1) went to battle. Pedro started out strong, but as usual after round 2 he was out of gas, thus letting Marler take control of the fight and edging out a majority decision win. Scores were 60-52, 58-55 and 58-58. Pedro had two points taken by referee Russell Naquin for holding. With the win, Marler captured the UBO All-American heavyweight title.

Verdin Upsets Johnson!

The fight of the night featured Dulac, LA’s “Smiling” Martin Verdin (8-6-1) taking on Shrevport’s “Gentleman” James Johnson (18-15-2). According to local “boxing experts” Verdin was the underdog, but the crowd through differently as they exploded every time Verdin connected with his big right hand. Johnson came out at the opening bell looking to end things early, but Verdin did not let that happen, as he kept the shorter Johnson on the outside for the most part of the fight. At the end of round 4, the two fighters went toe-to-toe and had the crowd on their feet. When it was all said and done, the judges scored the fight a split decision. 58-56, 58-56 for Verdin and 59-55 for Johnson.

Carline Decisions Soileau!

Local heavyweight Brent Carline (2-0) stayed undefeated as he scored a 4 round majority decision over Ville Platte’s Royphy Soileau (0-7). Soileau rushed the young Carline and made him fight with his back against the ropes for most of the fight. Infact, Carline fought with his back to the ropes so much that towards the end of round 3, Carline fell out of the ring. Gulfcoastboxing scored the bout a shutout for Carline, but the judges disagreed as they scored the bout a majority decision, 40-36, 40-36 and 38-38

Doucet Edges Beard!

Super lightweight Tafari Beard (0-1) made his much anticipated debut against tough Jason Doucet (3-4) of St. Martinsville, LA. Doucet proved to be a little bit to much for the lesser experienced Beard. Rounds 1 and 2 were closely contested, but it seemed that Beard’s lack of conditioning proved to be the deciding factor in rounds 3 and 4. Doucet took a majorty decision. Scores were 39-37, 39-37 and 38-38.

Verdin TKO’s Lowe!

Grand Bois light heavyweight “Iron Man” Justin Verdin (2-0) stayed undefeated scoring his second consecutive 4th round stoppage, this time of Arkansas native Jimmy “The Golden Dream” Lowe. Verdin came out strong and stayed that way as he wore down the bigger Lowe. In round 4 it looked like Lowe had enough, and Verdin sensed that as he went in for the kill. Referee Russell Naquin took note and stopped the bout 2:38 seconds of the 4th and final round.

White Scores Another Quick KO!

Heavyweight prospect “Lethal” Johnnie White (5-0, 5KO’s) scored his 5th straight knockout victory, this time over late sub Charles Daughtry. The size advantage for White was noticable from the get go. White stalked Daughtry and fianlly caught up to him early in round 1. Soon after that White scored with a brutal left hook to the chest of Daughtry. After taking that punch Daughtry stayed on one knee as referee Kenny Licata counted to 10.
