Tye Decisions Sedrick!

In the main event of Dana Pitcher Productions “Battle at the Blackham” Tye Fields improved his record to 33-1, but he had to take a different route than he was used to. In his previous 32 wins, he had scored 30 knockouts, tonight was a different story as he ran into battle tested Sedrick “Big Buck” Fields. Tye came out in round 1 with bad intentions and threw caution to the wind, as he tried everything in his arsenal to knock out “Big Buck”. Sedrick Fields had other ideas, as he moved as much as he could, and fired bombs when he had the chance. As the rounds went by, the Sedrick won over the crowd, (but not the judges) as you could hear chants of “Big Buck” and also chants of “Over rated” directed towards Tye Fields.

When it was all said and done, no one could argue with the judges scorecards of 80-71, 79-72, and 77-74.

After the fight Gulfcoastboxing.com had a chance to sit down with Sedrick Fields. He was livid as he claimed that “He (Tye Fields) didn’t sign the contract till last weekend, I didn’t know if the fight would go on”. He went on to say “Give me two weeks, and I will beat this fool, he is big, I knew he was big, but no body told me his breathe stank”. Also in his entertaining rant he said, “I am the sheriff, and I am serving warrants, I aint quitting, I’m back and I am madder than hell”.

Lara Pounds Gilliam

Coming into the fight at a career high 151lbs didn’t stop Jesse “Dallas Kid” Lara (8-1-1) from putting a hurting on fellow southpaw Walter “Mr. Blackout’ Gilliam (5-13-1). From the opening bell it was all Lara, finally 2:16 into round 2, Lara put Gilliam down for the count with a huge body shot.

Plessis Edges Beltran

In what turned out to be the fight of the night, the Jesse Reid trained Sean “Pitbull” Plessis (11-2) gave “Handsome” Hector Beltran (8-1) the first blemish on his record. In round 1 Beltran came out firing, and it looked like it was going to be an easy fight, but in rounds 2 and 3 Plessis came back and started pressuring Beltran. Plessis did so well that his trainer Jesse Reid met him in the middle of the ring to embrace him. Rounds 4 and 5 went to Beltran as he started to swell the face of the rugged Plessis. In the final round, which could have swayed the fight, Beltran got on his horse and started to retreat, which gave the round to Plessis. On the gulfcoastboxing.com scorecards, the bout was 57-57. The real judges had a different outlook as they read 58-56, 58-56 (Plessis) and 58-56 (Beltran). When the scorecards were read, Beltran looked like he was in a state of disbelief

Prevost Wins Homecoming

Lawtell, LA’s Blake “Candyman” Prevost (4-0-1) fought in what was some what of a homecoming bout for the undefeated light heavyweight. The victim this time was Rodney Spears (0-14). Prevost established his dominance at the opening bell, he pounded the body of Spears for the whole four rounds. Prevost looked a lot more aggressive tonight than he did in his previous 4 bouts. When it was all said and done all the judges agreed and scored the bout a shutout for Prevost (40-36).

Lerille KO’s Sepulvado

Harvey, LA’s Robin “La Loco” Lerille (2-0) came out on fire as she knocked out Christy Sepulvado (1-15-2) 1:11 into round number one.

Logan Destroys Smith

Crowd favorite Marteze “Too Sweet” Logan (19-13-2) pounded Memphis’s Toris Smith (1-19). Logan used his superior boxing skills and cat like quickness to confuse Smith. It was all a matter of when Logan felt like ending the fight, that moment came in round 4, he put Smith down for the second time in the fight, this time Smith got up and signaled that he no longer wanted to continue. This was Logan’s third win over Smith.

Govan Decisions Simon

In the opening bout of the night, a pair of light heavyweight debuts squared off. Huttig, AR’s Miki Govan (1-0) survived a tough first round to outpoint Lafayette’s Austin Simon (0-1)

Murphy No Shows!

Cliff Etienne’s homecoming was soured by Ken Murphy, not that Murphy gave Etienne trouble in the ring, but he gave Cliff trouble by not showing up. After Ken Murphy failed to show up for the weight in, the bout was cancelled late Saturday afternoon. To Etienne’s credit, he did speak to the crowd after the main event.
