

Mike Corbell’s knockout promotions along with the Petroleum Club put together their yearly “Black Tie Boxing” on last Tuesday night at the Petroleum Club in Shreveport.
Johnson Cruises Past Scott!
The main event featured a pair of Shreveport natives in “Gentleman” James Johnson (19-18-2) and Charles Scott (8-23) in a 6-round bout heavyweight bout. Johnson controlled the bout from the opening bell. Johnson used his jab to perfection and cut off the ring to trap Scott in the corner on numerous occasions thought the bout. The only drama in the bout came at the start of round 4, when Johnson appeared to have injured his right hand.
In round 5, Johnson still controlled the bout, but this time only using one hand. Same went for round 6, but this round Johnson gritted his teeth and used his right hand. Before the end of the round Johnson trapped Scott against the ropes and flurried, and appeared to have referee Bruce McDaniel looking in to stop the bout, but the bell to end the fight sounded. The scores were 60-54, 60-51, 58-56 all for “Gentleman” James Johnson.. Gulfcoastboxing.com scored the bout 60-54 for Johnson as well.




Pryor Destroys Simon
Houston, TX light heavyweight Larry “Hitman” Pryor (1-1) evened up his records as he destroyed Lafayette, LA’s Austin “Hit The Switch” Simon (0-3) in 2:35 of round 1. Austin was down 3 times before the stoppage, but appeared to have nothing left after the second knockdown.


Cooper Edges Nanton!
In the fight of the night Shreveport’s Avien “Hitman” Cooper (3-10-1) scored a close 4-round split decision over Rohon “The Beast” Nanton (3-15-1). The first 2 rounds of the bout could have gone either way as both fighters pressed the action onto each other. Round 3 seemed to have the hometown Cooper come on strong. Then in round 4 Nanton looked to have the advantage of the fading Cooper.
The decision for Cooper was announced much to the dismay of the crowd who thought the out-of-towner Nanton had won the bout. The official scorecards read 40-36 (Nanton), 40–36 and 39-37 for Cooper. The GulfCoastBoxing.com cards read 39-37 for Nanton.


Duplechain Blows Out Parsons!
Lawtell, LA super lightweight Jeremy Duplechain (4-1) come out on fire and disposed of debuting Arkansas native Tyler Parsons in 2:40 of round 1.


Prevost Stays Unbeaten!
The opening bout of the night pitted undefeated light heavyweight Blake “The Candyman” Prevost (7-0-1) against late sub Paul “War Dog” Foret (1-6) of Houma, LA. Prevost used his jab against the shorter Foret in round 1, but towards the end of the round Foret did his best to turn the fight into a street fight, and it seemed to work before be was knocked down with a body shot.
Round 2 was more of the same as Prevost pressed the action on the fading Foret. The bout was called off just :50 seconds into round 2.
