Broussard Tops Gibbins!

“Bad” Chad Broussard finally lived out his dream of winning a world title in his hometown. Saturday night at the Blackham Coliseum in Lafeytte, LA, “Bad” Chad Broussard won a 12 round unanimous decision over a tough and gritty Homer Gibbins (43-14) to capture the IBU welterweight title.

Gibbins came to town for the gold, and it showed as he controlled the first few rounds of the fight. Gibbins continually trapped Broussard on the ropes and worked on the body. Broussard rallied late as he worked behind his jab and forced Gibbins to fight him in the middle of the ring.

When it was all said and done, all three judges agreed to the scores of 116-111 all for the hometown icon, Chad Broussard. Broussard will not be able to celebrate very long as IBU president Don “Moose” Lewis stated that Broussard must defend his title within 90 days”.


Aucoin Stops Moss!

The co-feature of the night was more of a showcase fight for the “Bayou Bomber” Bobby Aucoin. After a round of light work, Aucoin came out in round two looking to end things early. After trapping Moss in a corner, Aucoin unloaded with hooks and uppercuts that Moss had no answer for. Aucoin moved his record to 16-0-1 after a second round knockout over the 41-fight veteran Micheal “The Boss” Moss.


Verdin Wins Split Decision over Candyman!

In the fight of the night “Smiling” Martin Verdin (10-6-1) scored a 6 round split decision over previously undefeated “Candyman” Blake Prevost (7-1-1). The Lafayette native Prevost came out on fire easily taking the first round. Verdin came back in the middle rounds using his quick jab and straight right hand to take rounds 2, 3, 4. In round three Verdin hit Prevost with an uppercut that seemed to stagger the former Marine. Rounds 5 and 6 featured toe-to-toe action which could have gone either way.


Hendrix Stays Unbeaten!

Tyrese Hendrix (5-0-1) stayed unbeaten after he won a 4 round decision over Lawtell, LA’s Jeremy “The Crusader” Duplechain (5-2). Hendrix dropped Duplechain in an action packed round 3. Both fighters landed big punches, but Hendrix landed more en route to the win.


Marks' Edges Aquila!

Middleweight prospect Zane “The Train” Marks (11-2) moved up to light heavyweight and scored a 6 round unanimous decision over 50 fight veteran Miguel “The Bull” Aquila. An unintentional elbow caught Marks in the eye in round 2, but despite a shut eye, he fought through it and got his 11th win.


McGee Sqeaks Past Robertson!

Tuscaloosa, AL heavyweight Marcus McGee (15-9) won a majority decision over Douglas “Preacher Man” Robertson (2-7-1) of Longview, TX. Scores were 39-37, 39-37 and 38-38.


Lyons' Wins Debut

Toughman heavyweight Aaron Lyons (1-0) of Gulfport, MS scored a tough 4 round decision over much hyped kickboxer Herman “Skip” Scott (0-1) of Houston, TX. This bout was even going into round 4, but Lyons’ stamina was the key. Lyons’ put Scott down twice in the final round, and that was the key to winning the fight. Scores were 38-36, 38-35 and 38-35.


Thompson Gets Quick KO!

In the opening bout of the night Brad Thompson (15-9) knocked out Richard Swindell (2-15) 2:51 into the opening round.
