| You Can Make An Acoustic Pick-Up For Less Than A Fiver!!! |
Yes, its true. You can make your own acoustic pick-up for less than five pounds. How? All you need is an old speeker, this could even be one of the small ones from a talking birthday card. The smaller the speeker the better as you have to get it through the hole in your guitar. Apart from that you just need some wiring and a 1/4" audio jack.
Once you have all of that you can start making it. |
| Wiring The Pick-Up |
Now that you have your speaker you need solder two wires on to the body. The should already be wires attached to it or at least two points to solder to. Once you have two wires attached you need to get your 1/4" audio jack and solder the wires to that as well.
Once this is done you should plug your amp into the jack and test it out. Start with your amp on a low volume and slowly turn it up as you tap the speaker lightly. You may find that you have to have the amp on almost full volume to get any real volume from it but once it is attached to your guitar it will be a lot louder. |
| Attaching The Pick-Up |
Now that the pick-up is made you will need to attach it to your guitar. To do this loosen the strings of your acoustic so that you can fit your hand through the sound hole. Now use a glue-gun or some supper-glue to glue the speaker part to the underside of your bridge. For best results attach it half on and half off of the bridge directly in the middle. Once it is dried it is up to you. You can either leave it how it is and have the jack hanging out of your guitar, or you can drill a hole into you guitar and have the jack coming out of that. this gives it a more professional look. Do not try to drill this hole where the strap pin is on the side as there is a large bit of wood on the inside that the pin screws into. This wood is too big for the jack to go through. If you want it on the side then you need to drill the hole half way round the curve.
Now that the pick-up is fitted you are ready to plug in and play. |
