Hey, i don't know why i thought of this page but i know there's a lot of people out there who think that guinea pigs are just scared of everything and are hard to tame....well to be honest they are hard to tame but it's worth it! I got a few taming tips here just to get you started:

1) Every day cuddle, play and talk to your guinea pig!

2) Food! Offer healthy treats, guinea pigs are prone to getting overweight (but don't panic! guinea pigs are naturally quite rotund!)

3) Be patient! Guinea pigs aren't the smartest creatures on earth, i hate to admit this but they aren't. But once your guinea pig is tame you will realize a whole new dimension of caring for your guinea pig! It makes it more fun, more rewarding and more exciting!

Taming guinea pigs takes time but you'll soon learn......guinea pigs aren't scared of everything!

Loose change buys a lot at the two dollar shop!

Well, i know it sounds completely dorky but loose change does by a lot at the 2$ shop!!! Though some people tihnk this is cruel with some good training it can become something fun for both you and your pet! At the pet shop i saw small guinea pig and rabbit leashes. At the time i thought, "It's a fun idea but in reality it could be cruel." But one of my friends got one and showed me how they fit the guinea pigs snugly and you can play with them in the back-yard where there is more grass. Of coarse if you have a real good trained guinea pig they can run around the yard and be easily caught but for me the risk of dogs/cats/birds is just too high. Please don't run away thinking that i'm strangeling my guinea pigs because i know some leashes do do that! ANyway at the 2 dollar store i found some more leashes almost identical in style to the ones at the petshop.

I don't use the leash much but if my guinea pigs were really untame i think it would work for teaching them some commands like 'come here' of coarse i haven't tried this and i understand that guinea pigs aren't for experimentation but people learn from their mistakes so im going to try that in my future.

I also found some plastic tunnels and playthings for my guinea pigs, they o look old after a while but it's definately worth it for two bucks! I have met a few people who claim to be Guinea Pig Lovers and only buy the "best" for their guinea pigs including expensive cages etc but i disagree, you can get things for the same quality for cheaper prices at many different shops, and i have also discovered a cheaper way of housing your guinea pigs. look on www.cavycages.com for more info, it is truly a great site and i admire it greatly!
