Basic accessories for your guinea pigs - sometimes having two of each is handy for cleaning. The initial setting up of a home for guinea pigs isn't as cheap as one would think.
Heavy ceramic bowl for dry food.
Large water bottle with metal spout.
Hayrack for keeping hay off the floor.
Large tubes, cardboard boxes for hiding in.
Newspapers.
Dust pan and brush.
Safe hutch spray from pet shop e.g. Keep it Clean. An alternative is for cleaning is Trigene diluted available from vets.
Plain white vinegar - excellent all round cleaner and perfectly safe even for food bowls, great for removing stubborn urine stains. The best value vinegar we found was Dunnes Stores large bottle for only 57 cents.
Kitchen roll - you will need lots, best value we found was Tesco Value 4 pack for only 1.52 Euro.
Vet bed.
Snuggle safe heat pad.
Plastic cat carrier with metal door for trips to the vets etc.
Cotton buds and bottle brush for cleaning bottles.
Safe nail clippers - human toe nail clippers can be used if you can't find one in pet shop.
Old towels.
Safe guinea pig shampoo.
Soft brush for grooming (even short haired pigs can benefit).
Sharp nail scissors for long haired guinea pigs should they need a trim.
Emergencies: In an emergency your guinea pig must be taken to an experienced small animal vet. One item that is useful for any guinea pig owner to have is a bag or two of Ox Bow Critical Care available online or from Bairbre O'Malleys vet shop in Bray.
