Guest Teacher

You are a "guest teacher"  in Saint Paul, Minnesota.  Or, you may be a "substitute" or "sub."  Whatever you call yourself, this web site is for you.

What are your concerns?  Pay? Lack of any benefits? Safety in certain schools? Leaving your Social Security Number in a chaotic office all day?  Union representation?  The treatment by the Sub Desk? Whatever your concerns, I hope that this site will be a starting point, or catalyst for change.

As a Guest teacher myself, I meet more classroom teachers than other Guest Teachers.  And yet, when I do meet other Guest Teachers, I am often surprised at at the depth of experience, commitment to students, and professionalism they exhibit.  These skills are met with varied responses, which I suppose is just a part of modern life.

This site is not endorsed, affiliated, or connected to the Saint Paul Public Schools at 360 Colborne Street, St. Paul MN 55102-3299 in any way.  It is a site dedicated to the men and women Guest Teachers.  I hope to use it as a communications device to help us become better advocates for the education of children in our District.

SPPS plans to use the Aesop system for Guest Teachers (substitutes) in the near future.  Forty time slots were offered for GTs to sign up for.  The problem is that if you use any one of the forty, you will not be able to take a regular job that day.  That means being paid for only one hour and earning nothing else all day.  See Aseop letter to the left.  Let the administration know what you think.
