Welcome to the GAME ROOM!
(click to go right directly to the game room)

The Game Room was first developed in late 2002 for the entertainment of people everywhere who live with RLS. We have all experienced long nights pacing the house, trying to fill the time until sleep comes. Before the Internet, a whole lot of solitaire was played and jigsaw puzzles solved. After the Internet, well, a whole lot of solitaire was played and jigsaw puzzles solved! We decided it was time for something new, and we searched the Web for alternatives to those two old standbys. We hope you enjoy these offerings.

Rules of the Game Room:

This room contains links to Web sites that offer various kinds of games.  We have not knowingly included links to any games that would be violent, pornographic, or otherwise distasteful and inappropriate. If you ever do run across a game site listed here that you find objectionable, please let us know right away at blakeneys@sbcglobal.net. (Bear in mind that we will immediately remove anything of a nature as described above. However, objections to some political or religious sentiment at a Web site may not result in the link being removed. Please feel free to raise your concerns, but be aware that we will err on the side of freedom of expression whenever possible.)

Notes about online game sites: all the sites below offer some or all of their games at no cost. They can afford this because they put lots of advertising on their sites! You may be able to avoid banners and popup ads if you have the proper ad-blocking software on your computer. Otherwise, you should expect to see banners flashing and pop-up ads appearing quite often. Generally, it's advisable to avoid clicking on any of the ads.  If you do click on an ad, you will be redirected to some other web site. Click the "Back" button on your web browser to return to the game site.

Many game sites require certain kinds of software (e.g., Java) in order to play their games. You should try the game first - if you can play it, then you have the software you need. If you can't, the site will probably give you a way of downloading the software. Always be very careful before you decide to download software or anything else from a commercial web site! When in doubt, try a different game site.

Finally, some of the game sites might be so heavy on animations or other types of graphics that they either load very slowly, or even "hang up" while trying to load. If you have an older computer, or a slow connection to the Internet, some of the games just might not work for you.  If that happens, come on back here and try another!

Your feedback is important!  If you have trouble with a game site, please be sure to let us know. Also, if you like this site and use it often, we'd like to know that too. Which games are your favorites??  Finally, if you know of a game site that is not included here, please send the web address to us so that we can include it in the list.

All feedback should be email to Sandy at:   blakeneys@sbcglobal.net.

We hope you enjoy these games, and that they help you through the times when your RLS or PLMD is acting up and you need to focus on something more entertaining. And keep checking back, because we'll add new ones as we discover them!

ENJOY!

Name/Link Comments (if any)
Sudoku The new game that is all the rage. I like this site because it does a lot of the tracking for you (little green lights appear), letting you focus on simply figuring out the numbers. The only disadvantage is that there is only one new game per day, and it will leave the Sudoku addicts begging for more!
Web Sudoku More puzzles for those who can't get enough. This one doesn't continually update your status (like the one above does), but you can always click on "How Am I Doing?" to get an update.
GameHouse.com A wide variety of new games.
Games.com Another site with lots of new games to try.
Free Games - download or play online! Lots of good looking choices on this site.
More free games Ignore the flashing ads and just go for the games!
So-Called "Kids" Games This British site says it is games for kids, but it looks like people of all ages could enjoy the offerings here.
Pogo.com This link has been here in the gameroom from the beginning, but if you haven't visited in awhile, it might be worth another look. Check out the chat rooms that you can visit while playing! There's something for everyone!!
YALi This game provided hours of entertainment for one family over the 2003 holiday season.  Here is the online version. A "tip o' the mouse" to Laurie for discovering this one! (NOTE: this game uses up a fair amount of memory, so you would do well to close any unnecessary programs while playing it.)
Big Fish Games Always a favorite of Fran's, especially Dream Solitaire, Word Wizard Online, and Text Twist!   Click on the words "Play Now" under the name of the game to avoid the need to download the game to your computer.
Fun 'N' Games at Dictionary.com This site at least has some nice "sample" games you can play without having to sign up for anything. A note of caution: the graphics included with Hangman are disturbingly realistic!
Yahoo Games A wide variety of games: card games, arcade games, word games, you name it! Its worth a look.
Thinks.com Offers daily jigsaw, crossword, word search puzzles plus lots of other "brain games."
FreeJigsawPuzzles.com There ARE some free puzzles, but you have to navigate around all the advertising and puzzles for sale! Look for puzzles that don't have a price indicated.
AustralianBirdJigsawPuzzles Really cool, if you're a bird lover. They offer an easy and a difficult version of each puzzle.
Billy Bear's Jigsaw Puzzles A site for kids, but fun for older folks too! Not a bad way to get the hang of this stuff.
Braingamez.com Lots of interesting games - some cost money, so be aware.
Wonderword.com A "tip o' the mouse" to Pete Yelle for sending us this link. Looks like a fun site - print the puzzle and solve at your leisure.
AOL Games for AOL members For those of you who are AOL members, be sure to check out the free games they have to offer! Just go the Keyword: games. (Hint: Your support group facilitator highly recommends Word Whomp!)
Jumble.com This site has lots of puzzles that you can print out and solve.
