Grindcore or Grind - primarily an English idiosyncrasy - can easily be mistaken for Death Metal with its utter brutality, downtuned guitars, growled vocals and blast beats. Where it differs is the preferred brevity of tracks, simplicity of riffs and extremes of either the terminal sickness, or (this is the influence of Punk) enhanced social responsibility of the lyrics. If Death Metal is sick, Grindcore is sicker. If Death Metal is ordered, Grindcore is chaotic.
Death Metal riffs can be complex, rapidly changing in mood and pace; not so in Grindcore - the riffs are as simplistic and repetitive as they are brutal. The length of Death Metal tracks allows for ordered thematic development, something that Grindcore doesn't give a damn about - the shortest Grind track is one second long and most numbers come in at about the 2-minute mark!
Grindcore also emerged, blood-soaked, in the mid-to-late-1980s. First up were REPULSION and NAPALM DEATH (credited with inventing the genre) who gave their primitive, Death Metal-influenced, Grind an aggressive Punk edge.
Yes that's right! I'm in an arsey. I have to point out i don't usually do bad moods, but at the minute i think i have a jolly good reason to be in one! Most of the time i'm either too happy or too depressed. Life seems to be getting alot better, managed to get myself a job behind the bar of my local (and i have to admit i'm loving it!). I'm back, haven't updated the site in ages due to technical difficulties. Everything in the life of Laura is fucking spanking! Still got a job, moved out of home, got the perfect partner and i can afford to go to Town matches. I'm still a grindwhore at heart, but just don't tell the other half. I've been listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, just to keep him sweet.
