Great position close to the beach, in the heart of the old fisherman's colony and a short walk to the Shore Temple. Greenwoods is one of several hotels in the area all offering similar facilities and prices. This one is a friendly, family run place with rooms in a pleasant garden setting (beware mosquitos), there's a choice of fan or AC and we paid 850rps (about 20USD) for a fan double with bathroom and mosquito net, incl breakfast. Nice room with balcony overlooking garden - could have been a little bit cleaner but was OK.
Internet cafe next door and plenty of good restaurants close by and on the beach.
This hotel does not pay commission to rickshaw and taxi drivers so ignore them when they tell you it has closed down or is full and don't let them drop you off at the wrong hotel.
Pickup/dropoff at Chennai airport can be arranged for 800rps

What a place. This is a family run establishment. BALAJI is a great chap. We agree with everything the previous reviewer has said. Take trip to see the temples at KANCHIPURAM with BALAJI who is fully conversant with information. Then take dinner dining off banana leaves followed by a surprise. The accommodation is around a courtyard with banana trees 100yds from the beach. On the 16th Jan 2006 it was 850 rupees for air con room en suite toilet & shower all very clean. | Submission date: 2005-12-10 - Date of Stay: December 2005 | | Submitted by: Sue - From: Australia | | Type of Traveller: Culture Vulture - Age Group: 41 - 50 |
| Hospitality Plus | | One of the genial hosts Bilaji is a "can do" man who can arrange everything - from fantastic grilled garlic prawns at the Greenwoods' restaurant to trips to the local tourist spots. We often let him plan our evening meals - the freshest food is always then served up!! This hotel is set around a pleasant garden courtyard - it is very quiet. The ocean is only 100m and the nicer beach about 5 minutes walk. The owner's family lives on one side. The rooms are clean and airy with sitting areas outside attached. Any requests are quickly met and the hospitality and thoughtfulness have been amazing. |
