Subsidery Activities

The 'development' of the pier in diverse ways is necessary as an adjuct to the core activity of repairing vessels. Provision of 'workshop space, recreational facilities (even as basic as toilets and a cafe for craftsmen, apprentices, volunteers etc.) need to be addressed. The development of the pier as a port of call and mooring point for visiting [historic] boats including repair facilities if needed and restaurant/rest rooms

The name of the charity shall be Greenwich Peninsula Harbour Trust.

The purpose of the trust shall be to administer the demised pier and its trappings and accoutrements for the benefit of historic and worthwhile vessels, to permit repairs and rebuilds to be occasioned by historic and/or worthwhile vessels at on or alongside the pier and to administer such other activities as permit or enhance the ability of the trustees to achieve such activities. 

The founding trustees shall be drawn from MVS, Swiftstone, Massey Shaw and Portwey. The number of trustees shall be eight in number [to include a chairman as defined below]. If the four partners are unable or unwilling to provide the full complement of trustees, elected or appointed representives of these four organisations shall have the right to co-opt directors to make up the required number from useful areas of expertise or with useful contacts as agreed by the aforementioned representatives.If any partner should become unable or unwilling to provide at least one trustee they shall, subject to the agreement of existing trustees cease to be partners.

No director may serve more than two consecutive years as a trustee. In the case where a partner supplies one trustee, that trustee shall serve for one year and be eligible for re-election. Where a partner supplies two or more trustees the second and subsequent shall hold office for two years at their own discretion. The eight trusttes as soon as annual elections are complete shall elect or choose by whatever means they wish a Chairman from outside their number. Such Chairman shall  be a trustee but shall not be subject to the consecutive rule.

If at any time it is found expedient to wind up the charity the eight trustees of the time or the chairman individually may propose such action by motion at any time. This motion must be dealt with by majority vote with a [minimum] quorom of seven present in a single place and within 30 days

Subjects agreed

Name for the Trust  --  Greenwich  Peninsula Harbour Trust
Purpose
1. To provide a permanent base for the three boats and a MVS Unit Base with a specific aim to manage the harbour activities and carry out a 24hour Thames watch system.
2. To set up a conservation skills centre for historic ships,  particularly for iron and steel construction and engines. Covering education, research and restoration.


Trust Members    Representatives of Swiftstone, Massey Shaw, Portwey and the Maritime Volunteer Service, (8 members) plus 2/3 additional members invited because of their expertise ie  someone from the Maritime Museum, Historic Boats, Political and maritime experience,

Docklands Museum, Ambrose Greenway. Suggestions please

Setting up as a charitable trust
The secretary of MVS, Hayden Chapel has offered to help to set up the trust and charity. Chris to investigate.Alan has also offered to to investigate the Crossness trust process. Main Objectives-- to  run  the trust on a voluntary basis, charges kept to covering costs. Needs a clear statement of intent and procedure. An accountant and solicitors services will be required, any suggestions?

Action Reports
1. Both stages of GPH development are now with JamesTrimmer PLA and being circulated to the relevant departments for comment, before making any formal application.
2. Four went to the Historic Ships meeting and made an informal presentation of the scheme which was welcomed and brought out some useful offers of help and contacts.
We also have had help from Alison Seabeck MP Portsmouth Dockyard . and are in contact with Martin Hieghton.
3.Jetty: One of these was a concrete barge offer from John Kempton (Medway Queen) to be looked at by Swiftstone crew. With help from Rob Chandler’s Touchstone.
4. EP Gangways have been offered and accepted. If they are not used the scrap value goes to EP. Alan Boakes organising the move to the Jetty.
5.Pontoons from various sources are being investigated.
6. Danny Creedon MVS responsible for jetty and pontoon and available to help Alan with the EP Gangways and two watchmen units, plus fendering for the jetty.
