Laurin Keller Memorial Chess Club recent news

10-29-2009

Well the October Open came to a close tonight with only 4 chess calculators playing in the last round????? Joseph "The Good Doctor" Graves dispatched of student Alston Rankin, and William Heasley took down student of mine and new member of the USCF Chris Drusdow. I want to thank everyone that participated in this months monthly swiss tournament, and ending the G/75 format with a bang. Remember, that starting in November, the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month will be CASUAL PLAY from 6pm-10pm, and the 2nd and 4th Thursday will be USCF Quick Rated chess! If there are only 3 Thursday's in the month then we will only have 1 Rated tournament with 2 weeks of casual play, and if there are 5 Thursday's in the month, then we will have 2 rated tournaments with 3 weeks of casual play. I hope this increases the clubs activity and relieves some pressure of a few that are discouraged to play in rated tournaments. Im hoping that having casual play will bring the club together as a whole and we all can work together to help improve each other's games. :)

One last note: I have been very laid back about people's cell phones going off during tournament play, but as of recently, I have been hearing an increase of cell phones going off. From now on, if any players cell phone goes off during a tournament game and I can hear it, then that player will receive a TIME PENALTY. Remember guys, this is a USCF rated tournament, so treat it as if you were at any other tournament. Thanks.

Join us next Thursday night (November 5th) for Casual Play at Greensboro's premier chess club.

*Cell phones must be turned off or on silent before the start of the round**

G/75 TOURNAMENTS CAN NOW BE ON A TIME DELAY, ONLY IF BOTH PLAYERS AGREE TO IT. IF ON A TIME DELAY, PLEASE SET YOUR CLOCKS TO G/70 WITH A 5 SECOND DELAY.
