GREELEY GREENS PROTEST MARRIAGE AMENDMENT
A local chapter of the state Green Party, the Greeley Greens, has launched a campaign protesting the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment.
The Amendment which was put forward in large part by Marilyn Musgrave, a representative of the 4th House district of Colorado, calls for marriage to be defined as a union solely between a man and a woman.
The campaign entails mailing Musgrave postcards signed by constituents of the 4th district that state the signer of the card is opposed to Musgrave’s proposed Amendment.
Each card carries the heading “Marry Diversity” and it goes on to state that “the government should have no input in the private relationships of its citizens” and that the Amendment upholds “dated and discriminatory treatment.”
Currently the campaign has been running for nearly two months and members of the party estimate that over 250 postcards have been mailed to date.
Mandy Sampson, a co-chair of the Greeley Green Party, said “it’s important for Musgrave to know that her constituents do not support the Amendment.”
Sampson also said that the reason for mailing postcards rather than sending a petition is that, “postcards create a greater quantity of mail that [Musgrave] receives and that makes a bigger impact.”
The campaign will continue as long as resources are available to fund it and as long as the Greens feel it is necessary for Musgrave to understand the views of her constituents in the 4th district.
