    Visual Presentations By: Kendra

4-H is all about helping kids and teens. One thing most people needs help at is public speaking. A way that 4-H helps kids and teens with this problem is encouraging them to do visual presentations. Visual Presentations is when you pick a topic on anything you want (I did mine on Tree frogs) Visual Presentations can be a fun way to learn about different things and how to speak in public.

On March 4, 2006 I went to county Visual Presentations in Salem for my first time. My topic was Green's tree frogs and White's tree frogs. What I did was research all of my information thought of a way to put it all together and found pictures and visual to go with it. Turns out the judges really liked it and many other teens that competed couldn't believe this was my first year. I tied for first at states!

Visual Presentations are very fun. Even if you are not competing you should come just to cheer everyone on and to learn!

The Things I Learned By Trevor
I learned many things at the spring show this year.  But most that
stuck in my mind was my experiences as a Show Comitee member for the
first time.  In this group I learned how to fill out the show card that
judges the animals being shown.  The key to this is to listen to the
judge very hard to hear his remarks about different aspects of the
animal (ears, teeth, coat, etc.).  Then you must check in the
appropriate box (poor, fair, good or very good) and write the place the
animal got out of the total number of animals in that group

      Italian Dinner by: Jenny

This last weekend I had the privilege of attending
the Italian dinner our club put together. It was a great experience and
something new to learn. The atmosphere was that of the quality of the
delicious pastas, meatballs and dishes that were all very well made. The
meal included a salad and main entrée and desert. Not only was it a
great meal but we learned a lot about serving food and running a
restaurant. When members of our club have the chance to get to know each other
better, the more we can grow.  Personally I learned that serving people
requires manners and concentration. It was a lot of fun. Such a creative
fundraiser is a good way to get members involved.  In my opinion it’s
something we should do again in the future, to those who went I’m sure
you would agree it was an enjoyable time.

      The Italian Dinner
The italian dinner was a wonderful experience... The food
was great all the girls that served people were awesome.
Congratulations to John M who made all the food and came up with the idea. In my
opinion we should do it again next year!!! Congratulations again to
      everyone that helped out!

Hi Everyone! On July 27 I went (along side a few club reps) to the Amesbury Public Library. We sat in for the "reading time" then we had a chance to talk with the kids there about rabbit care and rabbits in general. The kids loved to hold and pet them as we talked and taught them to hold the bunnies. Many of the children at the event were no more than 6 or 7 (just a guess) at the most. The Librarian was very helpful by setting up a table for the rabbits and by keeping the day well organzied and calm. Overall we had a great day at the library and I really think that the kids got a lot out of it as well.

      February 2, 2007

This was the date of the Gold Medal Banquet on Friday night.  For those who
don't know, this is an annual event in which 4-Hrs who passed in their
records are awarded the medals and certificates that they received due to the
contents of their records.  This was my first year going to this event, but
not the first time winning medals (last year I forgot).  This year I was not
awarded medals but received a certificate for my records.  I think everyone
should attend this event even if they did not win anything at all.  You could
go simply to applaud your friends and/or get free pizza.  The food is great
      by the way.

Several member of Great Scott's won medals this year.  These were; Melissa , myself, Veronica A (my sister), Lisa , Jacquelyn , Matthew, Joanna, Alex, Amy, Lindsey L., John, Lindsey M, Kendra, Charlotte, Emma, Vanessa, Allison and Sarah V.
I'm very very extremely sorry if I spelled anyone's name wrong or forgot
anyone, you can yell at me for great lengths at the next meeting!
