RHYS STONEMAN PASSES TRINITY GUILDHALL GRADE 8 EXAM

Seventeen year old Rhys Stoneman has Passed the Trinity Guildhall Grade 8 examination on E flat Bass with distinction. Congratulations Rhys, very well done. His tutor for the exam was Paul Fensom, MD of MK Brass. Rhys began playing with his mother and father in the Broseley Development Band and was soon joined by his twin sister Rebecca and younger brother Thomas. He joined Great Horwood on E flat Bass after having previously played with us for some time to gain more experience of general banding. He has now been joined at Great Horwood by sister Rebecca on Baritone. Rhys is in the sixth form at Roade school and two years ago won a place in the Northamptonshire County Youth Band, recently appearing with them at the Royal Albert Hall for the last night of the BBC Youth Proms.
LESLIE BURCHETT MEMORIAL CONCERT
A large and very appreciative audience attended the concert in memory of Les Burchett on Saturday 15th November. In addition to some of Les' favourite music the band played several items new to their repertoire. The programme included "The March of the Peers" from Iolanthe, the overture "Light Cavalry" and the Drake Rimmer tone poem "Rufford Abbey". Instrumental features were the corner duet "Swiss Ländler" played by Tony Hart and Ian Nutt, and the cornet trio "Three Jolly Sailormen" when Tony and Ian were joined by Emma Mainwaring. "The Bare Necessities" was played on E Flat bass by Rhys Stoneman and Vicki Cook played "Misty" on Flugel Horn. The Burchett family attended and requested that Diabetes UK and the Church of St Mary The Virgin, Thornborough should share the proceeds. The concert was the first time the band had played in the Buckingham Community Centre and although the size of the stage made life a little "cosy", the acoustics suited the band well and the centre staff made us very welcome. Let's hope for a return concert some time in the near future.
