As a result of the Logistic Support Review, The Royal Logistic Corps was formed on Monday 5 April 1993 from the Royal Corps of Transport, the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, the Royal Pioneer Corps, the Army Catering Corps and the Postal and Courier Section of The Royal Engineers. Officers and soldiers of The Royal Logistic Corps are trained in a multitude of logistic skills, which they put into practice each and every day in support of The British Army at home and abroad.

It would be impossible to commit the British Army without essential support, including vehicles, spares, equipment, weapons, ammunition, fuel, food and water.  The storage and distribution of these commodities is the role of The Royal Logistic Corps ensuring provision of the right quantity, of the right quality, to the right place and at the right time.  The Corps’ motto, ‘We Sustain’, reflects the Corps role.  Although soldiers of The Royal Logistic Corps are trained in a primary specialist role, they are soldiers first and specialists second, because success on the battlefield relies on our soldiers carrying out their trade, no matter how hostile conditions become.

The Royal Logistic Corps helps make the British Army one of the most professional and effective fighting forces in the world.  The British Army’s achievements in the Falklands, the Middle East, Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Africa reflect the high standards expected of our soldiers. The Royal Logistic Corps currently has units deployed worldwide and is participating in every theatre of operations.

With over 16,500 personnel, the Corps comprises some 16 per cent of the Regular British Army.  Some 12,000 TA soldiers back up this effort – over 20 per cent of the TA’s strength.  The Royal Logistic Corps is a unique organisation within the British Army, offering a wide range of employment, specialisation and training.  The Corps fulfils a crucial role within the British Army both in peacetime and during operations.
