WHAT IS GRANATT FOLK ART ?

GRANATT FOLK ART  is to present the original art created and produced by Mike & Margaret Granatt for the viewers review over the internet.  Their creations include watercolor & acrylic paintings, on canvas, paper,and wood plaques.  Carved three dimensional figures which are created mostly from redwood fence post, relief carvings on various types of wood and other mixed media work  are also important parts of their creative production.

Mike & Margaret have been and are currently licensed as artists in the City of San Francisco Art in the Street, which enables them to display and sell their art at various public locations in San Francisco, California.  They are also participants in the Oakland Artisans' Marketplace which enables them to exhibit and sell their work at various public locations in Oakland, California

Over the  past 20  years,  the Granatts have also have exhibited and sold their work at various fairs, shows, and galleries in  California,  particularly in  the San  Francisco Bay area.

WATERCOLOR PLAQUES:

EACH PLAQUE IS AN ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR WHICH HAS  BEEN MOUNTED ON A A 4"X8" MASONITE OR HARDBOARD BACKING AND  IS COATED WITH AT LEAST  2  COATS OF SPAR VARNISH TO PROVIDE A DURABLE AND LUSTEROUS FINISH TO THE PIECE.  EACH IS READY TO HANG.

REPLICA FISH PLAQUES by MARGARET GRANATT:

THE FISH PLAQUES ARE REPLICAS OF ACTUAL  FISH.  THEY ARE PINE AND ARE PAINTED FROM PHOTOGRAPHS WITH ACRYLIC PAINT.  EACH IS FINISHED WITH A CLEAR ACRYLIC RESIN COAT EQUIVALENT TO FIFTY COATS OF VARNISH.  THEY ARE SIGNED AND IDENTIFIED ON THE BACK.

CARVINGS CREATED FROM REDWOOD FENCE POST: .

WE ALSO CREATE CARVED FIGURES FROM REDWOOD FENCE POST.  THESE ARE OF A  CROSS-SECTION OF 4"X4" AND OF VARIOUS LENGTHS OR HEIGHTS.  THEY ARE FINISHED WITH SPAR VARNISH TO PROVIDE DURABILITY AND LUSTER.  THEY MAY BE THE NA.:TURAL WOOD COLOR OR PAINTED WITH ACRYLIC PAINT OR OTHER TREATMENT DEPENDING ON THE CREATION:

THE RELIEF CARVING SHOWN BELOW IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE WORK WE PRODUCE.  IT IS CARVED ON A REDWOOD MILL END, WHICH IS PAINTED WITH ACRYLIC PAINT AND THEN VARNISHED.  IT IS A HANGING WALL PIECE.

ART FROM RECYCLED MATERIAL: JUNK ART

One of the fun things about being artist and making art is that anything goes and any materials can be used.  The challenge of creating something  beautiful or amusing from someone elses junk can be fun and rewarding:

 
                                                           
                                                           114-4 GOLFUS FLORIBUNDIS

This graceful flower arrangement was created from three old wooden golf clubs.  The leaves are venetian blind slats and the main body of the vase is an aluminum coffee cup mounted on a portion of a bench grinder which was wrapped with nylon string.  The paint used is acrylic paint.  A flower arrangement which will never need watering and will not wilt.  The entire creation is from junk or recycled material.
