PAWS & CLAWS 2009 ROUTE FOR SEPTEMBER 12th 2009
Grainger County Humane Society’s Ride for Paws & Claws 5-Year Anniversary & Rally
Colboch Harley Davidson on 25E in Morristown.
Registration will open at 9:30 AM
With The AMVETS RIDERS CHAPTER 7 of Morristown running the pack- First bike will leave Colboch Harley Davidson from 10:30 to 11:00 AM. PAWS & CLAWS & AMVETS Riders PACK leaves out at 11AM. Bike packs will be staggard in groups of about 50 to 60 bikes per group, leaving out 20-30 minutes apart for the safty for all who ride. Bikers can travel with the Offical PAWS & CLAWS & AMVETS Riders PACK or ride at their own pace. Riders should return to Colboch Harley Davidson by 4:00-4:30pm for prize announcements.

Rain could be a problem. - If the weather predicts scattered showers or is just sprinkling the morning of the ride- OUR PACK WILL STILL RIDE!! If the weather is predicted to down pour all day or is downpouring the morning of the ride, the ride will be canceled. Riders will be contacted later with more info. NO REFUNDS will be provided. No rain date will be set.

Ride for Paws ‘N Claws 2009
- Colboch Harley Davidson- Remember to pull your first 2 poker cards. Depart Colboch Harley-Davidson, turn right out of driveway heading north on Hwy 25E for approximately 15.6 miles.
- At top of Clinch Mountain Turn left at The Veterans Overlook to the 1st Check point . For a moment of silence for our County`s Veterans and to draw your card. This will be a 20 minute stop.
- Leaving the Overlook, turn left back onto Hwy 25E. Travel approximately 2 miles to Hwy 131.
4. Turn left onto Hwy 131 West.
Travel 3.8 miles to the new Grainger County Humane Society site. A slow pass by of GCHS`s Spay & Neuter Office on the right (just past Dave Jackson Store an old wood building). This is the site that will be our Spay/Neuter Clinic. Due to the gravel and incline it is not safe for motorcycles to stop or pull in. A card will be displayed by our GCHS MUTT as you pass by for your use at the end of the ride. This is a WILD CARD and can be any card of your choice at the end of our ride.
- Continue traveling on Hwy 131 a total of 27 miles to the Washburn Post office where you will turn right and head to the 2nd checkpoint at Petticoat Junction Grocery. The store will be directly in front of you at the end of road. There is a 45 minute fuel, restrooms stop and will also provide a BIKER MEAL SPECIAL for a $6.00 fee. Draw a card at this stop.
6. Leaving Petticoat Junction travel back to 131 and turn right back onto Hwy 131 traveling west.
- Watch for small rocks in the road about 8.4 miles from the 2nd checkpoint, there is a Rock Plant.
- At 61 East stay left (caution rough RR tracks).
- Turn left on Hwy 11W (total miles at this point is approximately 44). Stay in the left lane after you turn because the right lane must turn right.
Continue on Hwy 11W north. About 14 miles turn left into the COX & WRIGHT shopping center and look for our last poker hand stop. Get a stretch, bathroom break and a free drink courtesy of New South Credit Union . This is a 20 mintue stop. Leaving out of the shopping center turn left onto Hwy 11W continue on approximately 12 miles & stay right at 25E south back to Colboch Harley-Davidson (approximately 10 miles). Total route is approximately 80 miles
"ALTERNATE ROUTE FROM LAST CHECKPOINT"
If you would like to ride more twisty roads and want to go a little further you can follow the directions below. Total ride is approximately 90 miles.
1. When you pass the "Little Dipper Creamery" on your right in Blaine travel approximately 14 miles to Hwy 92 south & turn right at the Red light.
- Travel south to Hwy 375 and turn left.
- Continue on Hwy 375 for approximately 18.3 miles.
- Turn right on Hwy 25E south back to Colboch Harley-Davidson (approximately 5 miles). Total route is approximately 90 miles.

Amvets Riders Chapter 7 & Grainger County Humane Society
Standard Operating Procedures
- Safety will always be the Amvets Riders Chapter 7’s & GCHS’s number 1 priority
- All riders will have a proper motorcycle endorsement on their license, registration and motorcycle insurance
- All non-member or visitor riders will be required to sign a liability waiver
- Any rider observing an unsafe act by another rider will report such act to the Leader of the ride, the Road Captain, or an Officer of Amvets Riders Chapter 7.
- Road guards will be appointed and will be used as needed for each ride
- Each Rider will use appropriate hand signals when and only when lead to do so by the Leader of the ride in front of you
- Rider will only change lanes when directed to do so by the Leader of the ride in front of you
- Riders will abide by all state and local laws.
- Riders will abide by all rules and directives of the Leader of the ride, Road Captains and / or Amvets Chapter 7 officers.
- Any rider deemed to be intoxicated will be asked to leave the ride by the Leader of the ride, Road Captain or an Officer of Amvets Riders Chapter 7
- Any rider committing an unsafe act while riding may be expelled from the ride by the Ride Leader, Road Captain or an Officer of Amvets Riders Chapter 7
- Riders will make sure prior to each ride that their motorcycle has safe equipment, IE., tires, brakes, enough oil, full tank of fuel at the beginning of the ride, etc.
- There will be a flag truck in front and behind each ride as directed by the Ride Leader
- Riders and passengers will wear proper riding gear while riding with Amvets Riders Chapter 7
- If Amvets Riders Chapter 7 is hosting a ride, all Chapter 7 members will ride in the front portion of the pack, followed by co-sponsoring organizations, then other organizations, then the general public riders followed by a Tailgunner which will be a member of Amvets Riders Chapter 7.
- This S.O.P. is subject to change if the Amvets Riders officers deem it necessary to change do to a Safety issue.
