‘My Arthur’, Pauline’s husband, was the love of her life. They stayed together through thick and thin, jail sentences, nervous breakdowns and Pauline’s famous beige cardi, until she discovered that Arthur was having an affair with Mrs Hewitt. Arthur was ejected from the house, and Pauline was left to lick her wounds. They were apart for nearly six months, and it was only when Pauline’s brother Pete was killed in a car crash that they made up. Pauline and Arthur had a few more years together, but they weren’t without problems. Arthur was framed by a conman, and by the time he was out of prison again, he was a broken man, and he died soon afterwards. Since then, Pauline’s been on her own. For a while it looked like she and Jeff were an item, but she was mortified when he proposed to her in front of a packed Vic.

 She then took a shine to her old school friend Derek, but then introduced her to his boyfriend! More recently she has had to deal with her children! After Martin knocked down Jamie Mitchell she has become a rock for him, while she has had to bid farewell to Mark who admitted he was dying and wanted to leave her with dignity. Pauline has had to pull herself together since Martin's impisonment. When he was realsed she was over the moon but she soon found out her son had changed she had to come down firm even if it hurt, and surprisingly it seems one of her children has listened to her in the end! Pauline was devastated by the death of Mark, yet months later was filled with joy agter Martin and Sonia's wedding day becamer ever closer!

MARTIN FOWLER PLAYED BY JAMES ALEXANDROU

Martin is the youngest of Pauline Fowler's children and was born in the opening year of the show and has been there ever since. When Pauline first announced that she was pregnant with her third and final child mother Lou kicked up a fuss, there had been a 15 year gap since she had given birth to Michelle, she was whoever secretly pleased for Pauline and on the 30th July 1985 Martin Albert Fowler was born.

With the numerous goings on with the Fowler family, Mark's HIV and Arthurs affair with Mrs Hewiit to name but a few, Martin never seemed to get any attention from parents Pauline and Arthur, he had to rely strongly on his friends, and unfortunatley for Martin he got involved in the wrong crowd. Following the death of Arthur in 1994 Martin became a rebellious wild child, along with best friend Asif the pair would get into all sorts of deliqent behaviour such as vandalism, burgraly and drug taking. Pauline couldn't control her son and he was getting worse and worse.

One night after being dumped by her french boyfriend Enrique, Sonia Fowler was distraught, Martin was there to offer the troubled teen a shoulder to cry on, and the pair ended up sleeping together. The pair realised it was totally wrong, and moved their sepreate ways, but nine months later, unbknown to Sonia, she gave birth to Martin's child. Martin wanted nothing to do with his daughter Chloe, but Pauline was determined to fight to get her grandaughter, in the end Martin and Sonia agreed the best option was to Chloe up for adoption.

Once he left school Martin started to mature, this was due to numerous things. Firstly Pauline's friend Derek Harkinson started to live at the Fowlers and acted as a father figure to Martin, he taught Martin some valuable life lessons and encouraged him to work on the family fruit and veg stall. Next of all near to Christmas 03 Martin was speeding his car out of Walford when he hit a pedestrian, it turned out to be his friend Jamie Mitchell, a few weeks later Jamie died and Martin was sent to prison for a few months, during which time he grew up a lot. Martin had always been close to brother Mark, but when he died in 04 Martin was heartbroken, he soon realised however that he was now the head of the Fowler household, and so it was up to him to grow up and look after his mother.

Despite the fact that Martin had killed her fiacne, Sonia finally forgave him, and the pair became very close. Soon enough, to the suprise of Pauline, Jim and Dot, the pair announced that they were an item. Since dating Sonia Martin has matured 100% and now he is a sensible grown up male, running the fruit and veg stall and getting a mortage. The final thing to do was to make an honest woman of Sonia and in 04 the pair married and began to live a happy marital life, that wasn't to last long tough.

On a night out at Angie's Den, a waitress called Sarah took a liking for Martin and the morning after he woke up in her bed, totally unaware of what he had done. Sarah was a phyco bunny boiler who stalked Martin for months, deluded into thinking that he loved her, she was hell-bent on ending his marraige with Sonia, after pushing Pauline off a ladder and having a confronation with Sonia she revealed that Martin had never slept with her and thats why she loved him. She then stabbed Martin and was carted off to a funny farm. Martin recovered but there was now a new problem for him and Sonia to face.

The pair read in the paper that Sue and Neil Miller had died in a car crash, these were Chloe's adoptive parents, and Sonia was now determined to get her duaghter Chloe, now renmaed Rebcca back. However Rebecca's grandmother Margaret was not going to let that happen and after months of arguments and heartache for all involved Martin and Sonia realised that they had to leave Chloe to grow up with her adoptive family.

SONIA FOWLER PLAYED BY NATALIE CASSIDY

Sonia arrived in Walford back in 1993, as one of Carol Jackson's many illegtimate children. The Jackson family were all unitelligant, and loud, but Sonia was the acception, she was the only one who didnt fit in with the rest of her family. Sonia has always been a very kind and sensataive indidvoidual, who is a very good friend to those who she choses to get close to. Sonia was always very accademic and suceeded in school, it would therefore make sense that she would become a nurse when she was older. Sonia was well known for her trumpet skills, or lack of them, and for years drove her family and residents of Walford mad with her trompet practice.

During her teen years Sonia didnt havent much time for boys, but she did have a crush on her foreign exchange student Enrique, the pair started to date but her soon ended it with her when he returned to France. A distraught Sonia was comforted by Martin and the pair ended up in bed together, it was Martin whom Sonia lost her virginity too. The pair decided to leave it at that, and Sonia started to focus her attentions on another of Walford's young lads, Jamie Mitchell. Jamie was the love of her life, and for years the pair had an on off relationship, with problems such as Zoe Slater seducing Jamie, Gus Smith's adoration with Sonia and the biggest of all Sonia giving birth!

It turned out that Sonia had become pregnant from her one night stand with Martin, and she hadnt realised this. Sonia couldnt belive what was happening and refused to acknoledge her child, she wanted to put it up for adoption, but was faced with strong opposotion from Martin's mom Pauline. In the end they all decided it was best for Chloe to be put for adoption, and for a few years REbecca Miller stayed with he rnew parents Sue and Neil Miller.

When Sonia got engagded to Jamie, it seemed like everything was finally looking up for her, but that was sone to change. Martin ran over Jamie, and he was soon rushed to hospital, Sonia sat by her lover's bedside for over a fornight and in an emotional episode on Christmas Day 02, Jamie died. Sonia was heartbroken and blamed Martin for Jamie's death, she was furious with him and after arguing with him she forgave him, and soon after the pair were dating! Soon enough, to the suprise of Pauline, Jim and Dot, the pair announced that they were an item. The pair married in 04 and settled down for a happy marital life at the Fowler household. 

Following Martin being stalked and stabbed by stalker Sarah, Sonia faced an emotional battle when she wnated her daughter Chloe back. The pair read in the paper that Sue and Neil Miller had died in a car crash, these were Chloe's adoptive parents, and Sonia was now determined to get her duaghter Chloe, now renamed Rebcca back. However Rebecca's grandmother Margaret was not going to let that happen and after months of arguments and heartache for all involved Martin and Sonia realised that they had to leave Chloe to grow up with her adoptive family.
