WORKING DRAUGHT HORSE DAY.2009

                                WORKING DRAUGHT HORSE DAY.

Well what do I say?  The day was Totally Terrific! We had seventeen Big Horses present and working on the day that included two
Youngsters just starting out.
Plus two lighter bred horses driving round on “L” plates, just gaining some experience.
A magnificent sight, as everyone agreed! The “Big Boys”
Ploughed, Harrowed, Scarified, Pulled Horse Drawn Vehicles, generally looked beautiful – as they are- and thrilled everyone
to bits On the Saturday while Raymond and I were setting up the grounds with the bunting, gazebo’s etc, Geoff and Diane were still
working on the shed! I just happened to look up and saw a Gypsy Wagon being pulled by two Clydesdales coming down the road.
They looked terrific! Jim had left home at Greytown – near Nagambie – and had taken two days to drive up through the bush.
In they came and he had set up camp with the Billy boiling in next to no time. As we already had a few of the
Big Boys camping over, I envied them all sitting there having a chat round the fire. As I drove out just on dark looking back
you could have sworn we had turned the clock back 100 years. Just magical! On Sunday, the General Public were enthralled with
being able to wander round amongst the horses, talking to their owners about them and the machinery being used on the day.
All the Draughty People were more that happy to talk and explain everything about what, why and how the machinery and horses all
worked.Really everyone totally enjoyed the great relaxed and informative day and they all had a ball! All comments coming back to
me were great.Things like, “We’ve had a great time and when is the next one?” “My Husband / Father use to work with the
big horses and today has really taken him right back, he’s really enjoyed it, Thank You.” Plus many, many more all
along the same lines. It was very heartening to know that so many people enjoyed themselves.Only two grumbles –
that I heard- one was about direction on where to park, until I explained that with only nine of us present on the
day the parking attendant ended up as Chief Cook! With six trying to keep the multitudes fed! – We had some very tired
members at the end of the day, but I bet “They all slept well.” -The other was about the step on the shed and once again
when it was explained that the shed was not finished owing to some “poor unfortunate of the district” stealing most of our Z Section
. Which then had to be replaced (at great expense) and of course that held us up with getting it up and finished. It was still being
worked on,on Saturday. (The day before the event!  ) We wouldn’t have even been anywhere near having it finished if it
hadn’t been for Geoff Roberts, member and resident shed builder, who worked tirelessly to get the shed useable for us!
A HUGE “THANK YOU GEOFF” from your slaves! Both those people were totally OK when I had explained and both had said
that they had had a great day anyway! So that was good.We certainly had no idea on how many people would turn up on the day,
which made the catering a nightmare, and we all were totally blown away with how many people did turn up!
Between 300 and 400 people over the day, FANTASTIC!

Now Look out People! We have all agreed, “We will be running another Working Draught Horse Muster next Easter.” (2010)
The Draught Horse People have asked for two days next time, so Good Friday and Easter Sunday are looking like the days.
As Easter Saturday I will be running the Rushworth Easter Street Parade again and the Big Horses will be driving the 7k’s
into the Town for that.Make sure you put it on your calendar as we have a “COUPLE OF GREAT SURPRISES “ planned already.

If you would like any information on this day or Easter please give me a ring on 0358561405.  HooRoo, from Maz.

The Easter Festival held in Rushworth on Easter Saturday, was treated to beautiful weather.
The Day was an overwhelming success. Our horses and riders proved very popular and looked absolutely
stunning in their costumes. A big thank you must go to Jenny Ottrey for providing most of the costumes
and organising horses and riders. Thank you also to Jodie Ralph for providing two costumes and
Kathleen Durston for also loaning her costume. Our knight in shining armour, Geoff Roberts and our
beautiful fairy Jenny Ottrey ably led the team. Thank you to our team of riders, who also included
Prue Dakin, Nikki Evans, Nicole Rose, Elisa and Shanise Coomans, Elisa’s friend Karen,
Amy Harris, and Belinda Sharples. Well done to our lovely team of horses, most of these
horses have never participated in anything like this before, yet they all behaved very well and
took it in their stride. both Brianna and Patrick Boyd for missing them from the Easter line up. Both kids did a great job
carrying the club Banner and leading our Performance Team in the Rushworth Easter Street Parade.
Thank You Brianna and Patrick for doing such a terrific job.Thank you also to Di for helping Amy prepare for the ride,
Geoff and Donna for helping on the day, Raymond for his M.Cing, and Maz for
running the Street Parade. Lastly a very big thanks you to Heather and Ken Bassett for
setting up and running our Arabian Tent. Not only did this take them at least a couple of hours
to do, but they had to get up at 4am and then drive 2 hours up to Rushworth to get it all set up before
the Festival started at 8am. Thank You Heather and Ken, it was much appreciated and looked terrific.
