(who was a harness trainer) and her Uncle. Kathleen’s Mum rode and Kathleen learnt to
ride on her Mum’s horse, which was a Cob. Kathleen’s first Arab was bought in 2001. It was a
purebred Stallion, which Kathleen saw, advertised for sale. Although reluctant to look at it,
she was talked into it and when she went to check it out, bought it on the spot.
On his arrival Undurra Andreas was gelded
and then shown at Ag Shows. After his untimely death, Kathleen purchased
Slipstream Rock the Boat. He was shown lightly and then sold. After that came a break
from horses for four to five years, then during Easter 2008, Kathleen purchased the
purebred Arab Gelding called Kodachrome. He has been lightly shown with success
and will shortly be sent away to be broken in and then campaigned again. In her spare
time Kathleen does rug repairs and makes light cotton rugs. She can be contacted on 03 58572624.
Amy Harris: Amy’s interest in horses began at sixteen when Amy started going out to Maz’s
place on the weekends to learn about horses. This was where Amy learnt to ride, strap for
Maz and compete on her beautiful gelding Tawny Park Shem el Nissam.
Amy’s first horse was a lovely part bred mare given to her by Maz and Raymond.
Tawny Park Mishkah was broken in and never put a foot wrong and looked after Amy,
a very novice rider! Mishkah unfortunately passed away before she could be
shown, a huge loss. A few years later, Amy purchased a mare bred by
Rosemary Dumbleton from Tarrangower Stud. Tarrangower Fabiola – aka Tara
was a real handful to start with but they ended up the best of friends. University,
marriage and children have kept Tara in a large paddock being ridden occasionally.
Amy and her husband, Peter, bought a property and Ekala Arabians was created.
Next came an in-foal mare that carried Arim breeding. The foal, a colt, was called
Ekala Remaz and is now leased by Jenny Ottrey, Raymond and Maz. Recently
Amy purchased the stallion Reign Supreme and another purebred mare called
Robinvale Phraa, Amy loves the old English style of Arabian, which shows in
her Stud’s bloodlines that all center around Crystal Fire, Count Manilla, Abiram,
Silver Moonlight and many other great Old English Bloodlines.
She has been a member of the GVAHC for approx 14 years.
Saint Thomas Man-nor

Romany Lodge Ransom
St Thomas Man-nor started life as Tawny Park Stud in 1975. Tawny Park being formed from letters from my
Brother Wayne, Daughter Maree and my names. By the late 80’s both Wayne and Maree had
moved on to other things. I continued on, also moving the Stud to the old Gold mining area of Moora, 4km
from the Township of Rushworth in central Victoria, about 180km North of Melbourne.
We are basically a mixed farming area, cereal crops, sheep and cattle and bordered by the Largest Remaining
Iron Bark Forest in the World. 24,300 hectare’s. The whole district is full of old mine shafts and diggings,
the most famous being the Balaclava Mine which was one of the richest goldmines in Victoria.
Money from this mine was used to build Menzies Hotel in Melbourne, very famous in its day.
In 1995 Raymond Barber and I became partners in a some of the horses, henceforth St Thomas Man-nor
was born. As before the stud name was derived from the family names, this time solely from my
Father’s name – Norman Thomas- {Norman reversed became Man- nor. }Dad gave Total
backing, total commitment and total encouragement to us in everything we attempted right up till the day
He died. Dad, of course, also was a great Mate of Raymond’s. Being in and around when all the
“Great Arabians” were alive and thriving I based my breeding on
2 particular stallions that I just adored,Riffal – who I believe wasn’t given his full worth or credit in this
country &Crystal Fire – the Power House. Both horses passed onto their offspring, -
Good sound temperaments, conformation and fantastic riding horses. Just exactly what I was after.
I started out with a lovely Bay stallion called DOWKAR he was by Fabulous [ Riffal & Fayrial lines]
out of Pyrrha. [ Sala & Shahzada lines.]A little know horse who bred some top riding horses with good
sound temperaments and conformation. The qualities I insist on.
On Australia Day 1981, I was lucky enough to be “CHOSEN” by Romany Lodge Ransom when he
was 4 hours old! He taught, guided, bossed and owned me. I was his
WILLING SLAVE, HE WAS MY MATE!
Ransom by Milands Dream Fashion [ Silver Moonlight, Riffal & Crystal Fire lines.] out of Dunwingeri Darana
[ Crystal Fire, Silwan, Shahzada lines] proved to be the sire “Extraordinaire” Always improving on the mare,
“regardless”. All his children have his wonderful temperament, ground covering movement and versatility.
How could they miss when Father could turn his hoof to anything?
In `86 when I first moved up here, he boarded with friends in an outer Melbourne suburb, on an extremely
busy Main Road. Maree would go over before College every morning; Ranse was used as “The Lead Pony”
doing road work with Lyndon’s Racehorses and Show Hacks. Maree would ring up laughing, “Mum,
have you ever seen a 16hh Racehorse trying to hide behind a 14-1hh Arab stallion?” George had seen
“something” and headed to Ranse for protection!! At Melbourne Royal that spring I think Ransom was
the fittest horse on the grounds!
With Ransom I have achieved what I had hoped for, breeding good sound riding horses that
can and are being used in any equine discipline. Not only his children, but also his grandchildren are carrying
on these wonderful attributes. They are = Pleasure horses, Show horses, Demonstration horses,
Parade horses, Paddock bums and “real nice to be around”. Just like their Dad!
I was lucky enough to cross one of Ransoms daughters back to Dowkar before he died.
The resulting bay gelding Tawny Park Shem el Nissam now 19 years young has excelled at everything.
From showing to school master, demo horse, parade horse, western, dressage, film star and
everything in between. A wonderful ambassador of his blood lines.
Sadly we lost Ransom in November 1998, due to an accident, just 9 weeks short of his 18th birthday.
Born on Australia Day, he was emphatically “ A Truly Versatile Australian Arabian”.
Raymond and I are both very proud to be “The Keepers” of this Wonderful Horses Legacy.
