Magnificent Mouli Seals A Glorious Weekend For Gordonians

Gordonians enjoyed a successful weekend with two wins in Grade 1 competition with wins over Stonehaven in Grade 1 and St Ronald in the Aberdeenshire Cup Semi Final.

Chandra Mouli completed a fantastic weekend with 188 undefeated runs over two days play with 5 wickets added to that.

Saturday saw a good performance in the field with youngster Darri Peerless picking up 4 wickets with Blair Thomson and Prasanth Mallireddy picking up braces.

Stonehaven dismissed for 167.

Gordonians lost two early wickets with Indy Yahathugoda and Iain Selkirk both falling to catches at point.

Enter Chandra Mouli...

The Mineralwall park bowlers soon toiled as Mouli dispatched the ball to all corners of Countesswells. It was a curcial drop from vetran Tim Donald that may have cost the Second placed Stonehaven men a chance of victory when Chandra mishit a drive straight to him at cover only to see it juggled and dropped.

Mouli didn't hang about and he smashed some huge hits almost out of the ground on his way to a brilliant three figure total!!

Vamsi Alluri offered some good support followed by Dhanraj Venkat and finally it was Shiva Rengarajan who knocked off the winning runs.

Sunday saw the old rivalry renewed vs St Ronald in another "El Classico" in the Semi Final of the Aberdeenshire Cup.

Gordonians progressed to the final of the Aberdeenshire Cup Final after a 6 wicket victory over St Ronald at Kellands Park Inverurie.

On arrival at Kellands park the weather was overcast and the pitch looked green, it was no surprise when Jason Stark won the toss that he invited St Ronald to bat.

Chandra Mouli the star for the Countesswells side with 4 wickets and a magnificent 88 not out.

Nikhil Bhavsars knock of 45 helped St Ronald post 150 as Rahul Narula also claimed 4 wickets.

Jasneet Singh got the Gordonians innings off to a fluent start with a well played 27 before being brilliantly caught on the boundary.

Chandra Mouli then set about the bowling scoring 50 off 22 balls and only Bhaskar Joshi recorded figures of note with 2 for 45.

Its been 20 years since Gordonians last appearance in an Aberdeenshire Cup Final when they beat Stoneywood Dyce as underdogs... This time around its local big boys Bon Accord... Underdogs again....

Sunny shines on Gordos in Coupar Angus!!

Jasneet (Sunny Bedi Singh) scored a fantastic 113 at Larghan Park today to propel Gordonians to a total of 290 and ultimately a 206 run win!!

Gordonians arrived at Larghan park to discover that it was in fact an artificial pitch!! Not effected by this the lads took to the middle after the skipper won the toss yet again!!

Indy and Sunny took an instant liking to the surface and indeed the home bowling. Both batsmen dispatching maximums to various parts of the ground.

Jasneet was the more aggressive of the two batsmen and Indy found himself playing an unfamiliar role of playing the supporting bat.

After a flurry of scoring shots Both batsmen survived dropped catches from difficult chances. And it was Jasneet who brought up his half century first.

The score continued to pile up as the opening pair proceeded to amass a partnership of 180.

Indy scored his 50 next and the pair were looking very good. Eventually something had to give and it was Indy who perished caught for a well made 75.

Up stepped the in form Chandra Mouli and he was to witness Jasneet go to his three figure total in style with a thumping boundary!!

Mouli was his usual flamboyant self with some lovely strokes and it was Jasneet at the other end who was next to suffer caught off the bowling of Croll for 113.

Next up Martin Tremlett and he played himself in when Mouli was unlucky to be caught when the fielder plucked one out of the sky gone for 19.

Blair Thomson joined Martin Tremlett and the two of them started to work the ball around to keep the score ticking along.

Martin was starting to hit out dispatching the ball several times straight and on the leg side for boundaries and maximums while Blair worked the ball around for ones and twos at the other end.

Tremlett was next out as he was caught at long on for 40 and in the dying overs Arul was run out without scoring.

The skipper was bowled next whilst trying to cut one that was too straight out for 19.

Richard Watt ended up 9 not out with Vamsi Alluri not out for no score and Gordonians reached 290 for 6 from their 45 overs.

A nice tea was had from the friendly opposition and it was time to take to the field in the hope that there wouldn't be a repeat of the Mayfield disaster with the weather.

Rahul opened with Prasanth and it was the Division 2 bowler of the year from 2010 who made the initial breakthrough clean bowling Nelson for 6.

Rahul picked up his second wicket when he picked up Carnagie caught by Chandra Mouli for 3.

Prasanth was looking dangerous from the other end whilst being economical too and he made the next breakthrough finding the edge of Edmontons bat which was beautifully caught in the gully by Indy.

Richard Watt and Blair Thomson replaced the openers and it was Watt who struck first with a ball driven straight to Martin Tremlett.

Thomson then struck with two wickets in two balls to set up a hat trick opportunity.

The first wicket removed the aggressive Croll who had been clubbing Watt for a few boundaries at cows corner!! Clean bowled for 30. Wann was next in and Thomson found a way through the gate to bowl him first ball.

In strode Gibbs to face the hat trick ball and he survived it by the finest of margins, only just managing to jam the bat down on a good straight ball.

Marc Jones replaced Watt and it wasn't long before the left arm spinner was to snap up some wickets, dismissing Neave for 7 then Gibbs for 2.

Thomson picked up his third wicket bowling Robbie Preece for 3 and then Marc Jones wrapped up a comprehensive win for Gordos with final wicket of Gibbons bowled for 14.

All and all a great win for the lads and a much needed maximum points for our league challenge.

The guys continue to look brilliant with the bat and the bowlers effective and economical.

Thanks to the lads from Coupar Angus for a good day out and a genuinely nice bunch of people. We look forward to your visit to CCG.

The first XI travel to Coupar Angus in their latest SPCU D1 clash following a week off last weekend, and with Chandra Mouli coming into the match off the back of three consecutive hundreds and Jasneet Singh also on form with the bat, a positive result is wanted in their quest for back to back promotions.

The third team travel to crickets local holy ground at Upper Shedds to face off against Knightriders, who's second eleven beat the fourth team in Grade 4 last weekend in a high scoring affair.

Following last weekends defeat to 2nd Knightriders, the fourth team will be looking to get things back on track with a home match against Huntly on the pylon pitch and are bolstered by the return of the Carson wielding G-Mac and Martine Finnie.

Sunday sees the fifth team host Kinross at Sheddocksley in the SPCU D3, the fifth team will be looking to make home advantage count following two away defeats.

Mouli Mullers Cults Again!!!

Gordos Grade 1 Side Go Fourth!!!

Chandra Mouli's impressive run of form saw another amazing hundred propel the Grade 1 side to victory over Cults at Allan Park.

Gordonians travelled to Allan Park with a strong side to take on one of the leagues historically strong sides.

Skipper Jason Stark lost the toss and was inserted on what looked a good track to bat.

Openers Stark and Yahathugoda strode to the middle and were soon amongst the runs. Indy looking threatening against the 9 men of cults due to late arrivals.

The score board was rattling along at 8 an over and it was the skipper finally perished bowled for 17.

This brought the arrival of Chandra Mouli and bad memories for some of the Cults boys who had to watch on as he amassed a hundred in last years G2 game. History was soon to repeat itself as Mouli And Indy continued to dominate the home sides attack.

Indy eventually fell to an LBW when Forbes bowled him a full ball on the toes out for 43.

Martin Tremletts bad run of luck continued when he was adjudged caught at gully off what appeared to be a bump ball for no score.

And further disaster led to the dismissal of Prem Ballal for no score out LBW.

Meanwhile Mouli was showing the form that has seen him score consecutive 100's in his last two games playing shots all around the ground for four and several maximums onto the Royal Deeside golf course!!!

Sony Gopinthinan offered some good support for mouli at the other end in a partnership of 108.

Mouli sensing he was closing in on his third century in two weeks launched several balls for 6 and the onlooking crowd applauded as he reached his three figures in style.

Mouli then fell again foul of an LBW for 106 but his job was done and his team mates applauded his effort.

Tariq Butt joined Sony and the score continued to move along towards 200 Sony was next to fall when he tried a big shot but produced a leading edge to be caught at cover for 21.

Iain Selkirk then got a ball that went straight along the ground and clean bowled him for 0.

Blair Thomson joined Taz in the middle and the two of them put on 40 together with some lovely shots both sides of the wicket.

Taz eventually caught for 22 off a slower ball and Blair bowled around his legs trying to hit over the short square boundary.

Rahul Narula ended up 3 not out with Prasanth bowled for 1.

Gordonians all out 250

A good feed was had in the Pavilion and it was down to the matter of bowling cults out for the win!!

Thomson and Reddy opened the bowling and there were early strikes for both. In the second over of the innings Prasanth delivered a brilliant off cutter to take off stump dismissing Spearman for 4.

Thomson was next up with a straight ball to trap Devadas LBW for 3.

Cults struggling early doors on 10 for 2.

Gillanders and Saxena at the crease now and vital wickets required if Gordos wanted to take the win.

Saxena ran his luck with a few lofted shots but it was Gillanders who fell next again another LBW decision for Thomson out for 24.

Rahul Narula into the attack and he was to strike early removing the dangerous Amol for 25.

Debo Barman was in next and was his usual aggressive self again riding his luck with some lofted shots. Steve Dickie at the other end was doing well to dig out some well directed Yorkers.

Bowling changes came around at the end of Thomsons spell and it was centurion Mouli who produced the next breakthrough bowling Debo for 55.

Dickie was next when Sony trapped him in front for 8.

Sony also picked up the wickets of Baikrishnan and Chris Forbes as Gordos got ever closer to the win.

Cults Captain Masud Javaid had other ideas!!

With a brilliant innings of 57 late late on he came perilously close to snatching the game back from Gordonians.

But LBW's had dominated the days play and it was ultimately going to seal Cults fate and victory was Gordonians when Prasanth trapped Meghani in front for 16.

All and all a game of cricket that had everything in it. Moulis outstanding form continues to leave players and viewers in awe ably supported by good batting from Indy and some of the lads down the order.

Other results on the day added to the disciplinary action against mannofield sees the Grade 1 side climb to fourth!!

First Silverware of the season for Arrowdawn Gordonians

A weekend which saw one Gordonian Century and three half Centuries went a long way to securing the SPCU Division 2 title and also the first trophy of the season with the capture of the Grade 3 Reid Cup.

On Saturday overnight rain and early morning rain put paid to the SPCU game against main title rivals Mayfield, this left the first team boys with 4 matches and still a 100% record.

At Duthie Park the second string took on the dangerous Caledonian, even though they started the match with 8 players the hard hitting Himanshu managed to rack up 94 runs on a sticky DP wicket. Eventually with a 9th man arriving Caley were dismissed for a very respectable 201. Chief wicket takers for Gordos were Rahul Narula and Craig Pettit.

In reply Prem Ballal was outstanding showing the continued form which has him in the running for several batting awards with a fantastic 85 not out ably supported by Chandra Moulis 43. Rahul Narula completed a good all round performance with a quick fire 20 and Chetan Aggarwal smashed the winning runs with a huge six into the trees!!

In grade 3 over at Ellon Shahram Memon brought up the first Grades century for the club this year with a great effort of 104 but unfortunately the rest of the team struggled to contribute in support and eventually were dismissed for 148.

But the thirds bowling went about the task of making life difficult for the Ellon second string players and they were made to work all the way to the end despite some dubious decisions that were turned down the thirds fell just short with Ellon making 149 for 8. Debutant Jai Reddy picking up two wickets along with skipper Jamie Jones.

In grade 4 on the Pylon pitch Kens troops played third placed Kemnay. Aryal Ananda continued his good form picking up a couple of wickets but the fourths bowling couldnt restrict old foes Kemnay to less than 200.

In reply the target was always too much and the fours decided to tough it out for the draw from midway, a bizzare moment occurred mid innings when a Gordos player skied a ball off a drive which was then deflected off the overhead pylon wires and then caught.

A dead ball was called... an argument then followed on the decision... eventually after a 15 minute break in play and a call to grades president for a ruling it was said that it wasn't out... it wasn't a dead ball.. and no runs were scored... CONFUSED?!!

Eventually Kens men held out for the draw with 121 for 6 Karan Kashyap with 35 in reply.

Sunday saw a double header of matches for the club with the first team off to Forfar to face a Strathmore XI and the thirds out at Methlick vs the unbeaten St Ronald second team.

At Forfar Gordonians batted first with a few players getting starts on a slow pitch Prem Ballal with runs again but it was Leon Borstlap who gave the innings real meaning in a great partnership with Richard Brown. A fantastic 65 hit by the big fella heard to be hitting the Raaaaabish!!!

Gordonians 186 for 7

A magnificent tea was enjoyed as documented by guest player Tim Donald on his facebook page and the boys took to the field.

Chris Forbes in his first game for the team was superb with 9 overs of quality seam bowling with a return of 2 for 8 but again it was 4th change bowling that ripped the heart out of the opposition batting with Richard Watt scooping 4 for 28.

Strathmore eventually out for 116.

At Methlick the guys arrived to a wet looking track which although firm on top was to play soft and sticky. Jamie Jones proved to be a great tosser under pressure and inserted the unbeaten St Ronald 2nd XI.

Thomson and Barry Watt opened the bowling and true to form the St Ronald batsmen went for it from the start and it wasn't long before wickets tumbled. Marc Jones had a magnificent direct hit run out from distance and some fantastic catches held in the outfield accounted for the top order.

Suddenly the St Ronald batting used to getting things their own way were up against it, and with two of the main hitters in their attack falling to caught behinds which thanks to the attendance of neutral umpires were given out to the disbelief of both batsmen. Nice when decisions are ACTUALLY given in matches and memories of a few weeks back at Countesswells when several key decisions were stone walled by their umpires.

The only innings of substance came from Vai Bode who showed good technique in difficult conditions but even he eventually fell to the pressure and conditions.

St Ronalds tail tried to wag but didn't get far as they were eventually dismissed for 111.

Barry Watt and Suraj Menon the main wicket takers with 3 each.

In reply the innings for Gordonians got off to a flyer with a terrible opening over being smashed for 3 sixes and a four by Indika Yahathugoda. The poor bowling continued as extras were mixed with short balls as Indy dispatched to all parts bringing up a fantastic match winning half century.

Barry Watt meanwhile was watchful in support at the other end and then Indy played one big shot too many missing an attempted pull and given LBW.

Chandra Mouli entered the fray and soon dispatched a four and then a massive six before he toe ended one straight to mid wicket.

The damage was done though and although a small flurry of wickets was taken by St Ronald it was the second day in a row that Chetan Aggarwal hit the winning runs and the Reid Cup belonged to Gordonians.

Man of the match was awarded to Indika Yahathugoda by the umpires and Grades President John Hitchen shook his hand in gratitude for his excellent innings.

Jamie Jones then picked up the cup to cheers from his team mates and was a fitting end to his Third team captaincy.

Crathie Crumble as Menon and Watt clean up!!

Gordos clinically took care of ten man Crathie at Countesswells before the bad weather could bring a stop to play.

Skipper Stark had obviously been working on his tossing skills as for once he came back with a smile on his face!

Gordos took to the field as ten men Crathie debated about the colour of the pitch and the wonder of what a brown coloured wicket actually looked and played like.

Openers Thomson and Richard Watt proved difficult to get away with Thomson bowling a tight line and length at good pace and Watt bowling dolly mixtures.

Watt was to strike with an STW delivery expertly grabbed one handed for a caught and bowled dismissal.

Enter Suraj Menon and Barry (I've got a visa!) Watt...

Suraj and Barry continued the good work from the two openers and it was Menon who removed the top order with a fantastic 5 over spell spurred on by this Barry Watt bowled as good as he has all season with a blistering spell of bowling which saw three wickets picked up for 4 runs in eleven overs!!

Special mention to Jason Stark who was fantastic behind the stumps on a difficult pitch. With only one bye conceded on a pitch with variable bounce a great job was complete from the skipper.

Jamie McCabe skulked off with an apparent injury only to return with a concealed 6 pack which he enjoyed with the newly arrived Aussie Tourist aka Kyle (Steal your nose)Humphrys.

Thomson returned to clean up the last man and Crathie were skittled for 58.

Following the tea break the opening pair of Barry Watt and Indika Yahathugoda strode out to face the Crathie bowling and ball one set the tone for the remainder of the innings.

A short wide ball was delivered first ball up to Indy who smashed a square cut to the boundary.

Three overs followed and Indy found himself on 20 and Barry on 1 following a brief convo at the end of the over it then became apparent that Indy was going for the half century.

Indy unleashed a ferocious attack on the helpless Crathie bowlers as Barry did his best Stephen (Stonewall) Devlin impression from the opposite end.

And as Gordos eased to victory Indy brought up his 50 to win the match as Barry ended on 2 not out!

Suraj Menon 4-29

Barry Watt 3-4

Indika Yahathugoda 50*

Gordos fight back to hard earned victory over Brochers

Barry Watt emerged as man of the match with a fine half century and 3 vital wickets as Gordonians 2nds fought back to bowl the Broch boys out for 71

Home Skipper Jason Stark showed what a useless tosser he is when he tossed and was subsequently inserted!

Barry Watt and Jason Stark opened the batting and it looked like the pair were set to relive their cup exploits of a few weeks back.

But on this occasion it was the Captain who holed out at mid off when he skied a drive.

Prem Ballal did his usual blunder act but went for one shot too many when he was clean bowled.

Barry Watt brought up a fantastic 50 and Martin Finnie was looking good until he snicked a short ball and was caught behind.

Rahul Narula fresh off the back of a festival fifty was looking good until he failed to hit a full toss cleanly which was caught in the infield.

Blair Thomson was joined by Craig Pettitt who was clean bowled by Rennie.

Thomson himself was dismissed after Abdul Palli ran him out with a suicide run straight to square leg, Thomson dismissed with a direct hit.

Abdul and Karan Kashyap didn't last much longer both caught and it was Andy Doleman who was last man out 2nd ball for a duck leaving Jerry Paul not out.

With the home side somewhat downhearted at tea thoughts turned to the attempts to get early wickets and to make life difficult for the Brochers.

Who was to know what would follow...

Blair Thomson and Craig Pettitt opened the bowling for the home side and both used pitch and overhead conditions to their advantage with Pettitt removing Parkin clean bowled with a delicious out-swinger.

Pettitt quickly followed up to remove Ironside caught by Narula at Mid on.

Thomson was next in on the act strangling Cory Bowie down leg-side caught by Stark. Special mention of the fantastic sportsmanship shown by Cory walking for the dismissal.

The spell from the two openers could have easily taken a lot more wickets but it seemed the visitors had set their intentions on shutting up shop already.

After several near misses Liam Bowie finally chipped one up only to be juggled by Barry Watt and then back in the direction of bowler Thomson to complete a caught and bowled!

Thomson and Pettitt completed their spells with the score at 23 for 4 off 24 overs.

Watt and Narula next into the attack and it was Rahul who struck first, Watson out clean bowled by a fantastic yorker.

Barry took care of Flowerdew caught close in by Pettitt not the last of his day.

Abdul removed Rothwell with a full toss and then Prem Ballal took a fantastic catch at gully off Barry Watt.

With overs running out a few bowling changes were made to try ousting the final two wickets and it was Narula and finally Watt who came up trumps!

Fraser Lawrence of RGU fame amazingly caught close in by Craig Pettitt off Narula then a mad scramble to take a deflected shot with just 9 balls remaining was snapped up by Jerry Paul off a Barry Watt delivery.

The boys from the Broch all out for 71 and a fantastic win for the Gordos boys.

Proof that it really is a game of two halves!!

B Watt 55

P Ballal 21

B Watt 3 for 18

C Pettit 2 for 8

R Narula 2 for 8

B Thomson 2 for 13
