GOOD EATS

Johnny Rockets

A restaurant burger minus the waiter

Sometimes you get in a mood when you’re hungry and you have your mind set on a good burger but you want more then fast food but just a little less than having to deal with being waited on. I had that feeling the other night, where the usual six dollar burger from Carl’s or even a Dagless Pastrami just wouldn’t do.
(Although I love both Carl's and Dagless Burgers) So in this instance I decided to go to Johnny Rockets on Nordoff just before Reseda in Northridge.

When you walk in you hear oldies on the radio and marvel at the throw back décor, as I am sure you know. I know most of us have visited a Johnny Rockets in our life time. You stand there and look at the menu, order and then take your seat. Once I was done ordering I walked away with my cup so there was no waiting for refills and no breaks in the conversation. The food is brought to your table but that’s the depth of the wait service and that’s just fine with me.

I ordered the Bacon cheddar Double with half fries and half onion rings. The rings were golden and crisp, flavorful and perfectly fired just like the fries. I ordered a small side of the ancho chipotle sauce from the sliders just to try it out. The savory bacon mixed with the fresh lettuce, tomato not to mention the juiciness of the burger all complimented each other. This meal once again proves that sometimes there is nothing better than a burger and an ice cold drink and last night was one of those occasions.

EL INDIO
Roscoe and Balboa or Roscoe and Tampa

I have heard about this place for sometime now. Last night I finally stopped by to try it out. We ordered tacos de carnitas, tacos de asada and mouth watering nachos. It was a great choice, accompanied by carrots, jalapenos, and radishes. It's not a grand looking place but then again I have always been more into Mom and pop places myself. The service is more personal and the food is more often then not great quality. So if you like me and my friends and find yourself Hungry at three in the morning and don't feel like having Tommie's (We love Tommie's) or Denny's (another late night spot) then stop by El Indio I promise you wont be disappointed.

Since my first visit I have had a few occasions to return to El Indio both restaurants and I am stuck on their Carnitas Burrito with everything and their Quesadilla with Asada. When it's early in the morning and you want food please don't think that taco bell or dell taco is the only place to go. El Indio on Balboa is 24 hours, trust me.
